Facing eternity motivates us to be faithful and true to our Lord and His Word in anticipation of the great joy that Christ looked forward to: “...who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross...” (Heb:12:2). Paul urged us to “Set [our] affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory” (Col:3:1-4

John encourages us, “when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is” (1 Jn:3:2). Again Paul holds before us a hope that makes earth’s best alternatives shrink into nothingness: “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Ti 2:13).

The old hymn says: “These earthen vessels break, the world itself grows old; but Christ the Lord our dust will take and freshly mold.
He’ll give these bodies vile, a fashion like His own. He’ll make the whole creation smile and hush its groan.” That hope is worth living—and dying—for!
