[h=3]1 Peter 3:21-22[/h]King James Version (KJV)

21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

EasyEnglish Bible Translation

v21 That water is like a picture of *baptism, which now saves you also. *Baptism does not mean that the water washes dirt off a person’s body. It means that a person has decided always to obey God. God has made that person really good and clean inside. And so that person is choosing always to do what is right. *Baptism saves you because Jesus Christ rose, to become alive again after his death. v22 Jesus has gone into *heaven now and he is sitting at God’s right side. He rules over *angels and over all other *spirits that have authority or power.

21 Baptism symbolizes the death of Christ; it symbolizes usdying to self and being raised in Him. Baptism shows we are living not for ourselvesbut now living for Him. The water of the baptism does not wash away our sinsbecause only Jesus can wash away sins. Baptism shows to people that we have hadare sins washed away by Jesus.

22 Jesus is in heaven and has power and is in control. Jesussees our struggles and difficulties and sees we do. Jesus is now in charge ofthings that He gave up to die for us. Jesus reigns from the heavens as Lord andwill one day reign on the earth as Lord as well.

clark thompson,
the one point I didnt see in your post i would like to point out is obedience. We get dunked out of obedience to the word. a lot of people say to be saved you have to have water baptism because of the following verse:
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

However, I had hands laid on me and before i got dunked. I dont think that water baptism is essential for salvation however I think we should want to obey The Lord and The Bible. I think its just a a symbol of being "submerged" (baptizmo in greek) in Christs death and resurrection, although thats how I was taught and others who are taught differently will say otherwise.

I agree. 1 Peter 3:21.....it is not the washing away of dirt but the change to a good conscience toward God. The water does nothing but a change in heart by the Holy Spirit is what counts, that can and does happen anywhere, with or with out water.
