the belief "honouring your parents" requires you to stay in contact with people who tried to kill you or something similar, is a dangerous interpretation of the bible. your life and safety is sacred, and protecting yourself from violence is not a sin.
honour does not mean submission to evil: in the bible, "honouring" parents means treating the role with respect, but it never commands children to submit to abuse, violence or attempted murder.
Jesus chose safety over dangerous people: when people tried throw Jesus off a cliff, Luke 4:29-30 or stone at him John 8:59 He didn`t stay to be harmed- He walked away. He explicitly told his disciples that if a place was unsafe, they should leave Mattew 10:23
God protects the vulnerable: scripture repeatedly condemns violence and commands the protection of innocent. Forcing a victim back to a life-threatening situation goes entirely against God`s character of justice and love.
separation is necessary for survival: biblical figures like David fled from King Saul(who was a father figure and authority) when Saul tried to kill him. David maintained his integrity, but he never put himself back in Saul`s reach.
Many people confuse forgiveness with reconciliation. You can eventually chose to forgive someone to free yourself from bitterness, but forgiveness does not require reconciliation, and it does not require contact. Trust must be earned, and an attempt on your life completely destroys that foundation. True love and safety require you to stay away from them.
Do not let religious pressure convince you to compromise your physical safety. You have a right to cut off contact and protect your life. If you are facing pressure from a specific church or group, it might be time to seek a different, healthier community that understands safety and trauma.
