I will praise You with my whole heart; Before the gods I will sing praises to You. I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name. Psalm 138:1-2 NKJV
David began Psalm 138 with a strong declaration of devotion to his God, writing that he would praise Him with “all my heart.” That’s a word picture of a man with an undivided heart, a man who was giving God his all, a man who was holding nothing back from the Lord.
God still wants His people to love Him and praise Him with an undivided heart, soul, and mind (see Matthew 22:37). That, Jesus taught, is God’s greatest commandment.
This commandment isn’t an easy one to follow on our own. In fact, it’s impossible! But when you turned to Jesus for salvation, He put the Holy Spirit inside you, giving you the ability to love God and follow Him with a completely undivided heart.
That’s right! Through the work of His Holy Spirit, God gave you a new, undivided heart that can hear Him, respond to what He says to you, and live the kind of life that pleases Him.
Prayer: Lord, help me to worship You with a completely undivided heart.
