1 John Epistles - Discussion - Are we SINNERS when Saved?

you know I really think we all on the same page we are just looking at the process differently.

here is a good read

To summarize, “sanctification” is a translation of the Greek word hagiasmos, meaning “holiness” or “a separation.” In the past, God granted us justification, a once-for-all, positional holiness in Christ. Now, God guides us to maturity, a practical, progressive holiness. In the future, God will give us glorification, a permanent, ultimate holiness. These three phases of sanctification separate the believer from the penalty of sin (justification), the power of sin (maturity), and the presence of sin (glorification).

The idea Brother Dave is in how we choose to view this. Has this helped in our own walk? By living out what we believe this means to us is as important as debating this topic. So it is all good to me. So thanks Dave for you candor. What is as important as believing to me is knowing WHY we believe the way we do. So its cool with me. Blessing all.

@Dave M

Greetings brother

I said earlier - You cannot practice righteousness and be a sinner brother.

I stand by this but it needs further confirmation I think.

You cannot practice righteousness and be a sinner brother, but we do practice righteousness and sin.

Those who belong to sin, the world and the devil are sinner(s), the saved souls are to 'practice righteousness', practice means we will not always get it right, we will be tempted, but when we repented and accepted the Lord into our hearts ALL our previous sins, as sinners to that point were forgiven, wiped clean, remembered no more.

When I was in the world I was a sinner, my sins accumulated, I wasn't not concerned, I didn't consider it sinning, I lived a worldly life. But from being Saved, I practice righteousness, I am no longer a sinner, I was washed clean through the blood of Christ, redeemed, no longer associated with sinning, though I may be tempted and sin occasionally, I am not a sinner, I was given a new heart, the Spirit abides in me, the HOLY Spirit cannot abide in sin, sin is vile, these two are opposites brother.

Romans 8:12-17 (NKJV)
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors--not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

We are led by the Spirit, we are Son's of God. We are adopted into God's family, made Holy, made a separate people, we are no longer sinners, we are Children of God.

Galatians 2:17-21 (NKJV)
But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, (Practicing righteousness) we ourselves also are found sinners, is Christ therefore a minister of sin? Certainly not!

For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God.

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain."

Christ is not a minister of sinners, the old sinful self has been crucified, Christ lives in me (us), my life now, in the flesh I live by Faith and practice righteousness. I am in Christ, He is in me, He is righteous, we are being made righteous through Him by practicing righteousness to be like Him.

1 John 3:7-14 (NKJV)
7 Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous.
8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest:
Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another,
12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother's righteous.

13 Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you.
14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.

The world hates the righteous, they are sinners, we are children of God, no longer sinners...

Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.

As we practice righteousness, to be like Him, we will in the flesh be tempted, but the light is in us, the Spirit is in us, the blood of Christ Saves us from ALL Sin.

I once was a sinner, now I practice righteousness, I no longer look back, I do not belong to the world, I am a child of God, I am not a sinner. All who are saved are Not sinners, we practice righteousness. We walk in Faith, Hope and Love, we are redeemed brother.

Bless you.

you know I really think we all on the same page we are just looking at the process differently.

You know brother, I do agree. As said in a post yesterday, I can see where you are coming from as scripture quotes both saved who sin and saved who practice righteousness.

As we practice righteous we will be tempted, but we are not 'sinners' we commit 'a sin'. We seek forgiveness sinners don't, we want to be righteous sinners don't. We were made anew, adopted into God's family, we can associate ourselves with being sinners, or we can practice righteousness, sprinkled with the blood of Christ, a saved people, no longer belonging to the world, to the sinners in the world, having become righteous in God's eyes, so we practice righteousness, we look forwards we look upwards, I don't look backwards.

Bless you brother.

Scripture tells us to WATCH, be READY, be SINLESS

Do the two verses below from John's Epistles conflict?

When we are saved, are we still sinners, or are we without sin?

Below are verses from the Epistles of John from 1 John.

1 John 1:8 (NKJV)
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

1 John 3:1-10 (NKJV)

1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.
3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.
6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.
10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

- If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
- Whoever abides in Him does not sin

1 John 1:8
is a straightforward statement, so I look deeper into 1 John 3:6 by first looking at verses 1-10

I add a few thoughts on the way, but do welcome all comments on these statements by John's Epistles, the Disciple Jesus Loved, the same author as John's Gospel.

1 John 3:1-10 (NKJV)
1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!
As born-again, spirit filled believers we are 'Children of God'
2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
Because we are His, purchased through the blood of Christ, we do not intend to sin, but when we do sin, we repent immediately, so as to remain Righteous.
When we are saved, we become Children of God, we start off as babes, babies make mistakes as they learn, we sin in our new faith as we learn.
God understands and forgives us, keeping us Righteous, so long as we are abiding in Him, He can abide with us, we remain Righteous in His Sight.

4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
Those who commit sins are the wicked, sinful, Christ rectors, who belong to SIN, the world and the devil.
We no longer belong to, SIN, the world and the devil, we belong to God through Jesus, washed in His Blood and made Righteous in the sight of God our Father.

5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.
6 Whoever abides in Him does not sin.
Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.
Whoever abides in Him - DOES NOT SIN.

7 Little children, let no one deceive you.
He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous.
John now clarifies his statement. 'Let no one deceive us' - If we practice Righteous we will be Righteous - Just as He is Righteous.
He who DOES NOT SIN, John says, Let no one deceive us, these people are Righteous (NOT Sinners)

8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning.
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
John confirms, HE WHO SINS belongs to SIN, the world and the devil.

9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
Again John repeats, who ever is born of God, born again, become a new creation DOES NOT SIN.
John goes on to confirm, those of us born of God, CANNOT SIN, because we are born of God, His Spirit is in us. We are claimed, we are His.
God cannot abide in SIN, He hates sin, providing we abide in Him, He can abide in us, we 'Walk in Faith', we 'Walk in Righteousness'.

10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest:
Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

It is a common for believers to consider ourselves sinners, that is because we are trying to be right with God, we are aiming to be perfect, we are in the flesh and the flesh is weak. But if we are born-again, Christ's Spirit is in us, He enters our hearts when we repent of ALL our sins, when we ask Jesus into our hearts and follow Him daily.
All past sins at that point are wiped away, our slate is clean. We are at that point SIN-LESS, we are made Righteous, we become Children of God.

But many preach and many believe we are sinners after being Saved, and the verse below is one of the reasons for these thoughts.

1 John 1:8 (NKJV)
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

So which verse is right... they are both part of scripture, therefore both are correct, together let us discuss why we think that is so.

To avoid the old issue of letting one verse speak, I add all of John's first Epistle, it will help us see what John wrote, in context, when comparing the writings.

1 John 1:1-10 (NKJV)
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life--
2 the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us--
3 that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.

4 And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.

5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

There is no conflict. Everyone who has sinned "has sin."

But no one who is born of God sins. He cannot sin. If anyone sees his brother committing a sin, know that no one who is born of God sins.

Well -- we still have this human body and human nature. Even born-again believers still sin -- but we aren't Slaves to sin any longer. We Do have the Holy Spirit indwelling us to give us the strength to say No to sin. But satan is still very much alive in this world. He knows our weaknesses and goes after us all the time. We are very capable Of resisting, but don't always do that. We slip up once in a while and ask forgiveness.

1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

We confess sins that are past. And are forgiven for sins that are past. No one who is born of God sins. He cannot sin. - John, the Apostle.

@David 1954 -- do You still sin? An evil thought / do you accidentally speed while driving? Get impatient with the slow driver ahead of you? Ever prideful?

While on this earth -- we still have our human bodies -- we won't be Perfect until we are with Christ.

We are to Aim for perfection -- yes. We are to be as Christ-like as possible. Yes.

3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? - Paul, the Apostle.

1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? - Paul, the Apostle.

Take a look at 1 John 1:8 " If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us."

That is God's Word talking.

Everyone who has sinned "has sin." And we are forgiven for those "sins that are past." - Paul, the Apostle.

You're not really answering my question -- you can quote "Paul, the Apostle' all you want to. That won't 'save' anyone.

There's more in God's Word that what 'Paul, the Apostle' has written.

Looks like you want to play Scriptural 'ping-pong' -- salvation is more important than that. Your eternal destination is at steak. As is Everyone's.

In another thread you're asking how can you be saved.

And you're suggesting that you never have sinned since you've been saved.

You Do have a good knowledge of Bible -- but have you accepted that in a personal way.

In the other thread I responded to someone inquiring how to be saved.

I thought the Bible said no one, saved, sins.

Personally, I have had a direct subjective communion with God. Known as baptism in the Spirit.
