THE CURRENT HEAVEN

There is a gravitational pull towards the Eternal Heaven, I find myself wanting to jump forward to the heaven all Saved believers will be in together and with our Lord.

I want to say more about it, about the Tree of Life and the Holy City, I am sure readers do also. But the reason for this topic on The Current Heaven is because so many, believers and commentators rush ahead to the glorious place, but fail to take time to absorb the different stages of Heaven.

So let us look further at the Current Heaven, let us now consider in more detail what is spiritual and what is physical, are both types in the Current Heaven.

To look at humans in the Current Heaven we must first go back to the beginning, back to the Garden of Eden.

When God created man and woman, Adam and Eve, He first created the body, from the dust of the earth. He then breathed into them the breath of life. So that makes us, physical and spiritual, the human body was and is incomplete without the two.

Are there physical bodies in Heaven?

We know Jesus had a physical body, He ate fish, He walked as before He didn't hover like a ghost or spirit. He said to Thomas 'touch me, put your hand here, see I am not a spirit'

Jesus ascended into the Current Heaven in His physical body.

What about Moses what about Elijah, what about Enoch?

The last two were taken to Heaven in their physical bodies.

What about Elijah, he was taken to heaven in a physical body.

2 Kings 2:11-12 (NKJV)
11 Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 And Elisha saw it

Moses and Elijah both appeared physically the Transfiguration

Luke 9:28-36 (NKJV)
28 Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray.
29 As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening.
30 And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah,
31 who appeared in glory and spoke of His decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
32 But Peter and those with him were heavy with sleep; and when they were fully awake, they saw His glory and the two men who stood with Him.
33 Then it happened, as they were parting from Him, that Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah"--not knowing what he said.
34 While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were fearful as they entered the cloud.
35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!"
36 When the voice had ceased, Jesus was found alone. But they kept quiet, and told no one in those days any of the things they had seen.

So this tells us at least some people are in heaven with physical bodies. Surely Moses and Elijah wouldn't become spirits in heaven then come to the Transfiguration with Christ as physical then return to heaven as spirits.

We are still considering the Current Heaven, there are more examples in scripture, what is physical and what is spiritual, please feel free to add then here for us all to share. Hidden Treasures in scripture, God says 'search the scriptures' The Truth is in the Word.

Thanks be to God, I find this topic exciting, if the Current Heaven is Paradise, wow haven't we got a lot to look forward to.

Image the Current Heaven, after the rapture, before Christ's second coming, there really is a lot to learn, there really is a lot to take in.

2 Corinthians 5:1
For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

just wanted to share it, as I never remembered seeing that we have a building from God before.

Our earthly home is material, our heavenly home is spiritual.

We can lose everything on earth but if our riches are in Heaven, so are all God's promises for us.

There is quite a bit of scripture about homes and houses in Heaven, not just the usual funeral one, which is said at funeral after funeral for the saved and the lost.

Thanks for your post Dave M. every scripture verse is valuable in giving us a better picture.

I will not be about tomorrow, I am going fishing with the Lord. I net the fish I catch, He has not asked me to walk on water yet. ;o)
I struggle to relax and fishing gives me that, It helps my stomach gut and internal issues. Time with the Lord at the side of the water is wonderful, precious time, perfect peace.

Here Paul's going deep with metaphor. Immediately before he's talking about treasures in clay jars.

Now it's speaking of our bodies with tents and building images. I think the pattern of thought is, as the temple was greater than the tabernacle, so will our glorified bodies be greater than our present ones.

Everything in this present world is temporary -- tents are temporary shelters -- so are our bodies -- we presently 'live' in a temporary tent / our human bodies. John 14:1-6 tells about Jesus Christ going back up To heaven to prepare a place for us. And that He Will come back for 'us' and that where He is , there we will be with Him for ever. Our permanent home is yet future.

We are currently looking at, is Heaven, the Current Heaven, spiritual, physical or both.

There are many books and commentaries on Heaven, but most do not consider the difference between Heaven now, the Current Heaven, and Heaven after Christ's Return in Glory in the New Heaven/New Earth, they talk of the latter and do not consider the former. But if we die before the Rapture, we, and all those who have dies to date, meaning all Saved believers will go to the Current Heaven, we ask therefore, is it not important to know and understand what the Current Heaven is like, and the Future one which we will discuss in another thread later. We can';t wait I am sure, but for now, we look at the Current Heaven and whether it and all saved believers will be spiritual beings or physical beings. We keep an open mind as we do.

Now, if there is a Current Heaven, there must be a Current Hell. Interesting or not? Interesting I think, the Current Hell, is not the Hell to come after the White Throne Judgement, where none believers will stand in front of the Lord and be judged, for everything done, said and thought, which is against God's Word. But this is not the end for them, as it is not the end for saved believers, in the Current Hell, they will be isolated and tormented, what a terrible place to be, but if this seems bad worse is to come, imagine standing in front of Jesus and hearing all the wrongs done in this life, how small people feel when they stand in front of a judge and hear the sentence for their minor crime, how much worse it will be for them to hear a lifetimes sins read out to them, you said, in fact you kept saying OMG, you were taking the Lord God's Name in vain. But it was just a saying, everyone says it, no they don't comes the reply. You also said, Jesus wept, you are right I did but you said it with ill meaning, another off the cuff remark you say, is that like when you said, For God's Sake, and so the judge continues with the Ten Commandments, sin after sin quoted, nothing hidden, everything transparent to God, and written down for that terrible day for the unbeliever. The sentence to the lake of fire was still to come as He proceeds though the long list of sins. There will be crying and weeping and gnashing of teeth, eternal torment for those who have gone against God and His One and Only Son who died for every soul on earth. Our sins were nailed through into the cross, His blood was shed once for all, He is the Way, the Truth and the Life, No-One, comes to the father except through Jesus. It is so easy to have our slate of sins wiped clean, but the world cannot see it, they are spiritually discerned, veiled from the Truth, like sheep without a shepherd, they are sheep without a shepherd, how sad when it can all be avoided, Jesus paid the price for our sins, He Paid it in Full. Thanks you Jesus. Thank you God for going through what you went through, allowing Jesus to dies for our sins, Thank you Jesus for being faithful, even unto death, for our sins, for us, we are not worthy, we could never be worthy, we will never be worthy.

So what is the Current Hell like?

Luke 16:19-31 (NKJV)
19 "There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.
20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate,
21 desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.
23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'
25 But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.
26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.'
27 Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house,
28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.'
29 Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'
30 And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.'
31 But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.' "

Jesus gave us this parable to let us know there is a chasm between Heaven and Hell, it is doubtful we will see this when in Heaven with our Lord, the rich man was being tormented in Haded, Lazarus was being comforted, Lazarus was not on his own in heaven, it seems the rich man was alone in Hades, we are sure he wasn't alone in Hades but when pain and suffering come our way, when we are tormented as stated here, we will do what all humans do, look at self, feel sorry for self, it is a natural reaction and lonely we will feel.

Paul sums up what Heaven is like compared to here on earth in the following.

Philippians 1:19-23 (NKJV)
19 For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
20 according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.
21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell.
23 For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.

May we never take our eyes off Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, only through Him are we saved, only through Him will we enjoy all that is promised for us, in the Current Heaven and not long after in the New Heaven/New Earth.

When we look at the above, and all the promises in God's Word, we Rejoice and give thanks for our Salvation, but doesn't it also mean our hearts must reach out for the lost souls in this world. To save them from the eternal torments to come for all lost souls.

Matthew 9:35-38 (NKJV)
37 "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few.
38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."

All these snippets of information, in 'God's Word', all help give us a picture of heaven.

A book worth reading is Heaven by Randy Alcorn, it is the only book I am aware of that explains the Current Heaven and the Future Heaven, most books only include Heaven as one and talk about the Eternal Heaven. He covers a multitude of considerations regarding each stage, it is a book I would recommend for everyone, after all It will be where saved souls will be for Eternity.

I think sometimes, because we 'look up' to heaven, we sometimes fail to see the picture provided, we are in effect comparing heaven with earthly things, when we should see things as God sees them, as He wants us to see them, from Heaven downwards.

I am sure we all say from time to time that the world is upside down, God through Jesus, turns it the right way up, it is the world that is upside down. We should look at earth the same way, from heaven.

Regarding your last statement brother, anyone who says something incorrect and doesn't acknowledge the fact, is basically showing that Pride has a hold on them.

Pride always come before a fall. The LGBTQ+ should seriously take note of this fact. Sin leads to death. (Sorry off topic)

When those who are Saved die in this life and go to the Current Heaven...

Would you say they have... Spiritual Bodies or Physical Bodies?

We are just scratching the surface with our questions here, there is so much more in scripture.

As stated previously, I would recommend the book Heaven by Randy Alcorn, he covers the subject like no other book I have read on this subject.

If you want to know more about the wonderful place all Saved believers go when they die, whether the Current Heaven or the Eternal Heaven, New Heaven/New Earth it is a recommended read and all based on scripture.

Heaven is currently two stages, The Current Heaven which we are looking at in this thread, and the Eternal Heaven, but these are in three parts

1 - The Current Heaven --- from now until the Rapture

2 - The Current Heaven --- from the Rapture until Christ Return in Glory to defeat the devil, judge mankind, restore and make new the heavens and the earth, bring them together as one as they were originally. This stage will be the same as stage-1 except there will be all those who are raptured included also.

3 - The Eternal Heaven --- in the New Heaven/New Earth with the New Jerusalem, the Tree of life, when we will have our new resurrected bodies and be with the Lord forever.

The Bible's descriptions of the interim period between our death and resurrection are not all that clear or specific. Paul talks of being away from the body and "at home with the Lord". Jesus talks of "Paradise" and the "many mansions" but that's about it.

When it comes to describing the resurrection, everything sharpens up and the descriptions become much more distinct.

From this, I take that the Bible authors wanted their readers to set their hearts and hope on the resurrection rather than the interim time.

And just in case you've not yet heard it from me, the Bible never talks of us looking forward to "going to heaven". Our destiny is to stay here as the earth is made new.

The Bible does give details of what the current heaven is like, and yes it does want us to look forward to our Eternal Home, that is why there is so much more information from the resurrection following the judgement, when all things will be made new and we will get our resurrected bodies.

I totally agree the Bible wants the readers to set their hearts on after the resurrect and made new. on, it is right that we should do so.

It is also right that our final destiny is here on earth, the restored earth. many people talk of when they go to heaven, heaven is here, here on earth, but not yet, the devil, sin and the curse have to be removed and the heavens and earth restored. It is also why John saw the New Jerusalem coming down out of Heaven down to Earth, but that will be when all things are made new, not yet.

Meanwhile, there is still a current heaven, and a current Hell, call it a temporary hell if we wish as that is what it is. The Current Heaven is the place where Saved believers go this side of the New Heaven/New earth, where saved believers have gone for 2000 years, where our saved loved ones are now. It is the same Heaven as we have discussed together, but it has different stages as stated recently in this thread.

I know my destiny, so do you my friend, but I think it only natural to find in scripture where our loved ones are, where we will go this side of Christ's Return in Glory.

It is interesting as you say, as Paul stated, one would thing he would have known if he was one or the other, unless he was in total awe, to much to take in. I often wonder how I would react brother, there will be so much to take in at that moment.

I then think, would he have been like Jesus after He rose from the dead and said to Mary not to touch him, or like when he saw Thomas and said touch me, put your hand here and believe. (Just thinking aloud lol)

Again so much to take in for a moment after the resurrected body I would be wondering how I feel and would I be thinking touch me, am I really here, am I real, we will have to wait and see brother.

Well -- Jesus Christ ascended back Up To heaven. And 'born-again' believers will be taken Up at the time of the rapture of the Church. So -- everyone born-again person Will either be raised from their present grave or be taken up at the rapture.

And, I guess -- with all the questions as to timing and place -- it would behoove every one of us to be spiritually ready -- accepting Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior in the 'here and now'.
so, when 'our' time Does 'come' -- we'll be where we're supposed to be.

The book covers far more than we can on here, the aim of this thread was to get us thinking about the Current Heaven and using scripture understand better the different stages of Heaven. I find it amazing that to date so many have died in Christ and no one has gone to the depth Randy Alcorn has to let us see for our self the differences at the various stages. But he goes much further and in so much detail.

I have noted the other book you mention Dave, I don't have time now but it also sounds recommended reading.

What is written is written and will come to pass, PTL.

Heaven will be a popular place and so many saved souls lifted up to meet the Lord in the air, we will be amongst friends and loved ones, brothers and sisters in Christ.

There are going to be so many surprises for us sister, what the Current Heaven is really like, being in our Lord's presence, the Peace that surpasses all our understanding now, yet the loving calmness, the light, the angels, the seraphims and cheraphims, the whole accompaniment of heaven, the martyrs under the alter robed in white, it will be amazing yet this is just a taste of what we will see and be in the New Heaven and New Earth when Christ returns the second time, defeats the devil, and restores and makes the New Heaven and Earth for us.

It has been a blessing to share together what scripture says about the Current Heaven.

Through out I have asked that we keep an open mind, and as we continue a little further in this topic the message remains the same, let us keep and open mind.

Another question I asked on a number of occasions was, is the Current Heaven, physical, spiritual or both. Again please keep an open mind as we look at the next part of this topic.

Let us let scripture speak, even though sometimes quietly, sometimes indirectly, we are told in all things to search the scriptures.

We have discussed the physical in the Current Heaven, let us now look what scripture says about the spiritual

Acts 17:11 (NKJV)
11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

Proverbs 30:5 (NKJV)
5 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

Romans 15:4-6 (NKJV)
4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.
5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus,
6 that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Man was made by God, He made the Body first then He breathed into him the life giving Spirit and man was complete with a soul.

Genesis 2:7 (NKJV)
7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

But Eve then Adam sinned, and so mankind were separated from God and banished from the Garden of Eden. With it came the curse and death. So let us now look at what happens when a person dies.

Immediately at death, the spirit leaves the body with the soul and the body goes back to dust of the earth.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 (NKJV)
7 Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it.

Genesis 3:19 (NKJV)
19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return."

Therefore when man dies, his body goes back to the dust of the earth; this applies to all bodies, saved and unsaved.

But the spirit and soul goes to God. When God made the body it was in stages, first he made the body from the dust of the earth, then the next stage He breathed into it the Spirit of life, it was only when the spirit was added that the body was whole and included the soul, therefore the spirit and the soul return to God.

- The Saved believer when they die, the spirit goes and remains with God.
- The unsaved, unbeliever when they die, the spirit goes to the Current, temporary hell. We do not know if the soul goes to God.

And this has happened to this day, and will happen until the Rapture.

So on the basis of these scriptures, up to the present time, it appears we will be spirits in the Current Heaven.

So it is starting to give us the picture that, in the Current Heaven, at the current time, we will be spirits, but also that in the Current Heaven there is a least one physical Body, that of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This post lays the foundation of thoughts for the Current Heaven being spiritual, or partly, or mainly spiritual, please feel free to add comments about this stage in the Current Heaven, please add scripture to confirm your posts and include the Bible version quoted from.

Tomorrow I hope to look a little further, taking us up to the Rapture.

Upon the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ, He was seen by lots of people. It was a glorified body. And He ascended back up to heaven. People Could see Him. Was That simply so the people at that time could see that He was actually risen? I'd assumed that when believers will Also have that kind of glorified body. We'll be out of this earthly body , yes, but the glorified one will still be able to be identified by others. The 'form' will simply be different , as in 'glorified'.

to me these are all examples of a real physical heaven as well as a spiritual heaven, when Paul was there he did not even know if he was in spirit or body, can we think it will be different for us??
