May God Save You From Wealth

Dear brother I am not here to argue, but I am excited to here your story of selling everything, would you please share it. I say this in Love, people like George Muller and Charles Mully did just that and supply food for thousands of orphans with out. Please give us your real world story. thanks

I'd love to. There is a growing movement around the world that is doing just that.

I saw what Jesus commanded in the gospels after spending the time to read the bible for myself.

Start to finish. Multiple times.

But every time I got to what Jesus commanded it made me uncomfortable ...and continued to look for another way.

Got in touch with others that were doing just that , doing those hard things that Jesus commanded

I no longer work for money. I recieve no paycheck. I have no bank account. House. Everything I owned I gave up.
And now I go around the country with others spreading the gospel (Teaching others to obey Jesus )

And it's usually at this point people will say , wow , how great for you. I cant believe you did that and other such things.

It usually stops right after they are told that they are expected to do the same to obey Jesus

This is a big thing around the world, and its growing .
You won't be told about it from any church

@Life,
There are some believers that are called to stop working, but not all believers are called to stop working. Scripture teaches, let everyman abide in the calling he has been called to (1Cor. 7:20-24). Jesus called the disciple to stop working, but that was their ministry. Paul was a tent maker, but his true calling was a minister of Christ. Other than those called to stop working, we are told to work that we may have to them that are in need 1Joh. 3:17).

Ephesians 4:28
Let him that stole steal no more: but rather "let him labour,"working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that need.

2 Thessalonians 3:10
For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
2 Thessalonians 3:11
For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
2 Thessalonians 3:12
Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

1 Corinthians 7:20
Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.

In all of those verses, it is not said to work for money.

Rather work for the Lord spreading the gospel (what Jesus teaches )

That is admirable but I do have one question - isn't the purpose of gospel of Jesus to bring souls to faith in Him? Or what is the gospel message you are bringing to those you encounter? Is this movement bringing souls to a soul-saving, life-changing faith, or is the goal simply to convince others that they need to sell everything, and in turn tell others, etc. I hope you understand I don't mean this disrespectfully but just trying to see where you are coming from.

Obedience is very important, but first of all we need to be born again, a new creature in Christ.

Blessings to you brother!

@Jakesoulsatstake,
Are you saying the scriptures I presented are teaching (in context) they are to spread the Gospel in order to eat; that they may also have to give to the needy? 1John 3:17 teaches, if a person has "THIS WORLD"S GOOD." I don't think it's talking about the Gospel. This world goods has to do with money.

Nick,

Just to clear that up, that was John the baptist, not Jesus.

Jesus commands to love our enemies...And yes that also means not killing them as well.

Thank-you for clearing that up, but I never said it was Jesus who said that. However, since that is important to you to show the difference. Are you then saying that the Herald of our Lord, John the Baptist, contradicts our Lord? Hummm.....

I'm still waiting for you to respond to the rest of post #12, besides the above observation/comment. For it clearly goes hand in hand with you stating that I'm rationalizing. Which I'd like for you to point out where I am doing so. However, saying that you can. It then leaves me very curious that you don't consider yourself doing the same. Meaning, you say that Jesus says "Stop working for money", but I cannot find anywhere in Scripture Jesus saying those words. I realize that you have allowed yourself to read into the context of Scripture, but when I do the same it's rationalizing? LOL Just asking.

I hope you realize that, I'm not laughing at you, only the way we allow ourselves room to wiggle, but not so for the other person. Love you bunches Jake!

With the Love of Christ Jesus.
YBIC

I can not help but wonder how you post here and pay for the internet, and phone or laptop you are posting from. I do admire your passion for Christ brother.

Jakesoulsatstake....I'll just sit back and watch as you meet a girl and want to get married and raise kids on nothing, with no home for them and no way to pay for an education and so on and on and on

1 Timothy 5:8 ESV

But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
2 Thessalonians 3:10 ESV

For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.
2 Thessalonians 3:12-16 ESV

Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living. As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good. If anyone does not obey what we say in this letter, take note of that person, and have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed. Do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother. Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.
Ephesians 4:28 ESV

Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.
2 Thessalonians 3:11 ESV

For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies.
Proverbs 24:33-34 ESV

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.

This is purely a joke Brother Bendito and not meant to insult Jake in anyway...........but to do what you say, all he'd have to do is cross the border illegally into America and they'll pay for everything and you don't even have to work!!!!!!!! :-) Sorry I couldn't help myself!!! :(

Well! How can you talk like that? LOL S'true though...I'm sorry to agree with you.

@Jakesoulatstake,
In all of those verses, it is not said to work for money.

The scriptures I presented said nothing about spreading the Gospel or referred to it. Those scriptures talked about working to make a living so a person didn't have to steal. They were told to work so they could eat.

Jesus is not against a person making money, He is against a person putting their heart in the money they make. This is what Matthew 6:24 is talking about; serving money and worrying about it. The disciples were working for money and Jesus Himself was among them when they sold and made money, Judas confirms this.

John 12:3
Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
John 12:4
Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,
John 12:5
Why was not this ointment "sold for three hundred pence," and given to the poor?

Simon proposed this question to Jesus! Jesus didn't say, don't work for money. If Jesus was against making money He would not take part with them. He would not have positive input and give wisdom of what to do with the money you make (Luke 16). Jesus will not contradict Himself and teach a believer how to live in something He believes is evil. For instance, when Jesus was asked should a person pay taxes, Jesus said, give unto Caesar that which is Caesars, and unto The Lord that which is The Lords (Mat.22:16-22). Jesus made a distinction between the two; one included making money. Taxes come through a person making money for a living. This happened also with Peter. Jesus told Peter to go and the first fish that came up, it would have the "money" to pay the taxes. Jesus abided by the financial structure of the world.

Matthew 17:24
And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
Matthew 17:25
He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
Matthew 17:26
Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
Matthew 17:27
Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

If Jesus was against men having money or even being rich, God would not have allowed Joseph of Arimathaea to take the body of Jesus and have it buried in a rich man's tomb (Mat. 22:57). God doesn't act against His will. Jesus didn't prevent His followers from buying and selling for money. Jesus Himself was a friend of tax collectors who made big money. Jesus also knew He would die, but He said the "expensive perfume" (that others worked for and sold for money) was for His burial (Matthew 26:8-13).

LOL I'm still trying to find a place where Jesus told somebody not to work.....Can you show me?

@Bendito,

Jesus has told some to leave their jobs and come and follow Him; but if Jesus doesn't tell a person to quit their job and follow Him, they better continue to work - unless they enjoy poverty.

@Bendito,

So He called them to leave their jobs and work in the family business? Yup.....Still work hey?

They became fishers of men... True, they didn't make money, but all their needs were provided for. If a person quits their job, they better be sure God is leading them to do so. Andrew Wommack was led to walked in this type of faith. Andrew went through a lot before he got on top. Listen to his testimony.

I agree...Still, It is work even if the pay is not in money....They worked for found as you said. But they worked. Mr Wommack is a man we could all emulate
