Whenever you title a thread like this, you are sure to get a lot of views.
But seriously, the Bible says a LOT about sex. Maybe more than any other subject except possibly money.
The meanings of some words have gotten twisted. For example....
Matt 19:9; And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”
Where is the word "sex" in this verse? Maybe hidden for some.
The word "immorality" here in the original Greek is "porneia". It's the root of the modern word pornography.
Strongs says - harlotry, adultery, incest, fornication (also used figuratively - idolatry)
Thayers says - illicit sexual intercourse, homosexuality, lesbianism, intercourse with animals, intercourse with close relatives, or intercourse with a divorced man or woman.
The point here is. The word "sex" rarely occurs in the Bible. However words like
immorality, fornication, adultery, infidelity, unchasity, unfaithfulness, are all over the Bible.
In 1 Cor 5:1; it talks about "immorality" - but then it goes on to explain that someone in the church
is sleeping with their "father's wife". The way it is worded, makes me think it isn't this person's mother.
However, that isn't point. The point is, someone in the church is committing immorality.
(illicit sex) in this case, with their fathers wife. Paul goes on to say we should judge them, and even
kick them out of the church and have nothing to do with them. 1 Cor 5:11; calls them a "so-called" brother,
meaning they aren't really consider a brother in Christ anymore. We aren't even to eat with such a person.
All because of sexual sin.
There are many verses that tell us to stand firm, and resist the devil. (James 4:7; Heb 12:4; Eph 6:13; etc.. )
and yet when it comes to sexual sin... we are told to "flee".
1 Cor 6:15; Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be!
1 Cor 6:16; Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “The two shall become one flesh.”
1 Cor 6:17; But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
1 Cor 6:18; Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.
1 Cor 6:19; Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
1 Cor 6:20; For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
Again, we are talking about sexual sin here. Joining with a prostitute. You make think it's a one time thing,
but God says you "becoming one body" with her if you have sex with her. Once again - illicit sex.
Every other type of sin is "outside" the body, but the man who commits sexual sins, sins against his own body!!
Eph 5:1;Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;
Eph 5:2; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
Eph 5:3; But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints;
Eph 5:4; and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
Immorality (sexual sins) and impurity must not ever be "named among you". It doesn't get plainer than that.
Even filthy talking, coarse jesting. This is saying even dirty jokes, explicit flirtations, and "silly talk"
should be among Christians. This isn't just telling them yourself... this is sitting there and listening to others say these things. We are supposed to be "imitators of Christ".
Sex is a good thing. The first commandment given in the Bible was to "go forth and multiply".
(It wasn't talking about math here). God says the marriage bed is held in honor.
But who and when you have sex matters quite a bit.
Gal 5:19; Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
Gal 5:21; .... and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
One of the fruits of the flesh is immorality. Sexual sin, sensuality. (Lust of the eyes)
Paul says "those who practice these things... will not inherit the kingdom of God".
... to be continued ...
