Whenever you title a thread like this, you are sure to get a lot of views.
But seriously, the Bible says a LOT about sex. Maybe more than any other subject except possibly money.

The meanings of some words have gotten twisted. For example....

Matt 19:9; And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

Where is the word "sex" in this verse? Maybe hidden for some.

The word "immorality" here in the original Greek is "porneia". It's the root of the modern word pornography.
Strongs says - harlotry, adultery, incest, fornication (also used figuratively - idolatry)
Thayers says - illicit sexual intercourse, homosexuality, lesbianism, intercourse with animals, intercourse with close relatives, or intercourse with a divorced man or woman.

The point here is. The word "sex" rarely occurs in the Bible. However words like
immorality, fornication, adultery, infidelity, unchasity, unfaithfulness, are all over the Bible.

In 1 Cor 5:1; it talks about "immorality" - but then it goes on to explain that someone in the church
is sleeping with their "father's wife". The way it is worded, makes me think it isn't this person's mother.
However, that isn't point. The point is, someone in the church is committing immorality.
(illicit sex) in this case, with their fathers wife. Paul goes on to say we should judge them, and even
kick them out of the church and have nothing to do with them. 1 Cor 5:11; calls them a "so-called" brother,
meaning they aren't really consider a brother in Christ anymore. We aren't even to eat with such a person.

All because of sexual sin.

There are many verses that tell us to stand firm, and resist the devil. (James 4:7; Heb 12:4; Eph 6:13; etc.. )
and yet when it comes to sexual sin... we are told to "flee".

1 Cor 6:15; Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be!
1 Cor 6:16; Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “The two shall become one flesh.”
1 Cor 6:17; But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
1 Cor 6:18; Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.
1 Cor 6:19; Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
1 Cor 6:20; For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

Again, we are talking about sexual sin here. Joining with a prostitute. You make think it's a one time thing,
but God says you "becoming one body" with her if you have sex with her. Once again - illicit sex.
Every other type of sin is "outside" the body, but the man who commits sexual sins, sins against his own body!!

Eph 5:1;Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;
Eph 5:2; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
Eph 5:3; But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints;
Eph 5:4; and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

Immorality (sexual sins) and impurity must not ever be "named among you". It doesn't get plainer than that.
Even filthy talking, coarse jesting. This is saying even dirty jokes, explicit flirtations, and "silly talk"
should be among Christians. This isn't just telling them yourself... this is sitting there and listening to others say these things. We are supposed to be "imitators of Christ".

Sex is a good thing. The first commandment given in the Bible was to "go forth and multiply".
(It wasn't talking about math here). God says the marriage bed is held in honor.
But who and when you have sex matters quite a bit.

Gal 5:19; Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
Gal 5:21; .... and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

One of the fruits of the flesh is immorality. Sexual sin, sensuality. (Lust of the eyes)
Paul says "those who practice these things... will not inherit the kingdom of God".

... to be continued ...

There are words in the Bible like seductress, prostitute, concubine, harlot, and even *****.
Then of course there are words like husband and wife.

What is the difference between a husband/wife and the other words listed? Obviously it isn't sex.
So the argument that all you have to do is "have sex with someone" in order to be married to them doesn't really hold water.

In John 4 Jesus has a conversation with a Samaritan woman.

John 4:17; The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus *said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’;
John 4:18; for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.”

Apparently Jesus didn't think shacking up and sleeping together counted as being married either.

We see words like harlot, prostitute, *****, fornicators, adulteresses, and we tie them to women for some reason,
but keep in mind for every woman having sex, there is a man having sex with her (lesbianism aside). He is just as guilty.
Jesus even says we can be unfaithful to our spouses, simply in our thoughts.

Matt 5:28; says we can commit adultery simply by thinking certain things.

1 Cor 6:9; Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
1 Cor 6:10; nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

The passage above is usually used in conjunction with homosexuality, but it says that fornicators, and adulterers, are just as guilty.

Heb 13:4; Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

God will judge fornicators and adulterers.

If you have done these things, the good news is... God still loves you. But you need to repent and stop doing these things.
If you're living this lifestyle right now, living with a girl friend or boy friend, and you think God doesn't care. You are fooling yourself.
As verse 9 says above.. "do not be deceived".

Sleeping with your husband or wife is fine.
Sleeping with anyone else isn't.

Yes the bible says a lot of things esp about lust..which is one of the original sins anyway. Many people do not know what the difference between love and lust is.

Many people do not know what the difference between love and lust is.
The sad thing is... we have educational institutions, the media and even the government ... who all should know better...
continuing to confuse the two.

Certain people say that homosexuality opponents are against "love". We are trying to stop people from loving one another.
But that's a lie to divert from the real issue here. You're free to love whoever you want. I love other men. I loved my father
(when he was alive) I love my sons, my grandsons, other men at church, and even men I work with.

... but I don't sleep with them.

It seems that every teeny bopper chick-flick is about love. How do they "make" love? They have sex of course.
The music and songs of the last few generations... also use the term "making love". In reality, it has very little to do with love.

Good posts BAC, really grabbing the bull by the horns on this subject.

Just my thoughts on it... Sex sin is one sin that requires one to respect God to grasp. Probably one of the chief reasons an atheistic mentality flourishes in an immoral society.

We all agree that stealing and murder is wrong. But only those who respect God will stand against sexual immorality.

I do believe there is a lot of leniency from God to us on this in this day and age though. Immoral thoughts are near impossible to fight. With all media full of it. We are all being brainwashed. Christians are not exempt of this. But where Christianity shines is in our refusal to give in to the actual immoral thoughts and to put in place practical measures to combat the temptations and media that brainwash us. Daily battle for all of us. We have to remember that there is a difference between thoughts (Matt 5:28) and actions (Matt 5:32) albeit both are sins.

Some people do not know the difference between lust and love because they have never met a person who loved them rather than simply lusted after them while saying the word "love"with their mouth.

Is not our most effective witness of God's Love for people to be accomplished through His Love shining through us to and for them?
