Knowing the Lord

There is an intimacy which I must cultivate.

There is nothing magical about knowing Jesus. Some of the conditions between the heart of Christ and the heart of man rather suggest this..............quietness "Be still and know that I am God"

I do not think Jesus was ever 'noisy', and I do not think we get to know people really well of there is always noise and bustle and hurry. One of the reasons why so many of us Christians do not know our God is because we are so busy.
We are rather like a very junior clerk in some great business firm. We have a boss and we are busy working for him, but we do not know him. So many Christians are like junior clerks, instead of being partners. So let us make time to be quiet.

"My soul wait thou only upon God"

More than quietness there must be fellowship - but not in a theoretical kind of way, if we are going to know Him as a partner. "If any man will do His will, he shall know....."
There is nothing negative about knowing Him; and if quietness is one essential,..... partnership with God in His redemptive work is another. If I may take a simple analogy; the wife of a surgeon may know her husband, but she only knows him as a man, she does not know him as a surgeon, and he is a surgeon as well as a man.

She does not know him as the theatre sister does, or as the nurses do, or the patients; she does not know him when he is working - and the greater part of life he is working.

May I say reverently we will never know God, we will never know Jesus, unless we work with Him. That is where we will get to know Him best, for He is always working. That is why many know Him so very little

When we speak of Jesus "working", we need to move away from modern man's concept of the term. Modern man's idea of working involves reporting to a certain place at an appointed starting time to perform certain tasks for a specific length of time, after which we return to our homes to await the next appointed starting time.

Jesus had a different concept of work. While He took time to rest and hang out with the Father, He didn't see himself as having what employers call "scheduled time off". He was always subject to the Father's will as made known by the promptings of the Holy Spirit. He was always ready to do what the Father wanted when the Father wanted it.

In Matthew 14:13-21, the story is told of the feeding of the 5,000. Jesus had only recently learned of the beheading of John the Baptist. With a heavy heart, He took off in a boat to find a secluded place for grieving and prayer. But, that was not to be. The Father had other things in mind for Him. "When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them and healed their sick." (Mt 14:14)

If we're going to grow to be Christlike, we have to drop the idea of time off. There's no such thing as a vacation or time off in the work of the Kingdom. "The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light." (Ro 13:11-12)

Thank you for sharing. I always have problems of knowing Him and trying to do His will. I don't know how!

But there is always Jesus there. He has already set an example for us. All I have to do is to fix my eyes upon Jesus.

Getting To Know Jesus

finding out & acknowledging the sacrifices He made for YOU to get you where you are today.

Thanks rlowe, and SLE for good thoughts on this subject. How lovely it is to edify and to bless each other in God.

I was thinking as I looked again at this. When I was a boy we used to sing, in a small 'Pentecostal' fellowship, looked upon as a bit eccentric by passers by.

"What matters where on earth I dwell, on mountain top or in the dell.
In cottage or in mansion fair, where Jesus is tis' heaven there.

O hallelujah, yes tis' heaven....tis' heaven to know my sins forgiven,
On land or sea, no matter where, where Jesus is tis heaven there".

At that time........knowing Jesus meant everything.

It still does!

I would also like to add that it helps to be able to find a time and place where you can be alone, a place where it's quiet and you can spend time praying and then listening. After you are done praying and your concerns about others and youself have been presented to the Lord, spend some time in silence and wait for the Lord to come. I don't know how else to explain it but He is listening to you and He certainly knows when you are waiting on Him.

Sometimes I'm too "talkative" to give Him a chance to speak. Sometimes I'm too worried to wait. But when I'm willing to spend the time just focusing on Him and am also willing to wait for Him to speak to me the result is a deeply intimate conversation.

These moments make me feel so loved that Jesus, the Lord of Lords, actually has time to spend with me. He has said things to me that have touched my heart so deeply I cannot express it in words.

It's worth taking the time out of our busy days to quietly meditate on the reality of Jesus. He knows you love Him!!!

In studying what all is included in agape love, we learn more about God.

It is better to be loved than to love. We can only intimately know Him, when stop doing and start being.

Nobodys mentioned the bible yet, surely spending time in his word is important as well, because thats where we find out about Gods character and his ways.
Spend time with the Lord and spend time in his word.

The term 'local church' as many understand it today is a modern development. There is only one Church the Body of Christ Jesus and there are many expressions of this one Body. And if we are born again, then we are already members of this Body.

That is correct. But the scripture exhorts all "members of His Body" "not to forsake...........there gathering together"

Christianity is not a "lone ranger experience" we need to meet together....to pray, to encourage, to help, to bless. Amen?

The Early Church met together. They loved the company of each other. And why? They needed each other.

I need my brothers in Christ. I need to share to bless to pray with them.

I am not unique in such Christian desire

I meet so many, from time to time, Christians who have so many probs. they feel so alone, nobody cares etc.

If only they would get down to their local Christian fellowship, they would find a sympathetic ear, practical help, and the communion of a God who meets needs and answers prayer

I agree with Stephen. Being involved with your local church is vital. I used to be a lone ranger christian until God led me to the church I currently attend. Not only did they help me but I have also helped many there and they are like family to me now. It gives me a sense that I'm part of the body of Christ more than just prayer and bible time. The many different gifts of the Holy Spirit are spread out among us all and when we come together, each with our own gifts, what a team we make! Then we can truly be like Jesus, as a brotherhood. They will know we are christians by our love. Jesus told us to love one another.

I'm also in agreement with brother Stephen. How is a member part of the body if he is not associated with the other members? Spiritually, we're in Christ. But, physically we must be associated with each other for sake of edification, accountability and worship.

This is a great article brother. "Be still and know that I am God" is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. I get goosebumps from this one

I will ask you a question.....Are you unique in the respect? No of course not. I am sure that you are hard working, busy, getting on with your life just like others.

I would suggest visiting a lively evangelistic fellowship of believers. Christians who are expressing the love of God and who desire to be a blessing.

I pray your question will then find an answer.

In our walk with The Lord we will all eventually face circumstances that are too much for us as individuals to handle. One thing that I think Jesus was trying to tell us is that we need each other. Our brothers and sisters can serve to strengthen our courage and resolve to serve God in the heat of battle. Of course I'm referring to the battle against principalities and powers in high places as referred to by Paul. One thing is for sure, we need each other, not one of us is sufficient unto ourselves. This is extremely important as it helps us to realize what an abomination ego truly is. If anyone had to learn this the hard way it was me.
