Do Versions Really Matter?

The O.P. asked the question "Do versions really matter"?

They do/dont matter except that we who profess to know and serve Jesus are aware that truth is diluted all around today.

We do not want this to happen in regard to biblical truth. The O.P pointed out

In the TEV/GNB, NIV, NKJV it says in Micah 5:2 "Out of you will come for me one whose origins are from ancient times."

Whereas in the KJV it says, "Out of thee shall He come forth whose goings forth have been from everlasting."

I hope time will be taken to study the difference here.......because this is the danger with modern thought. The dilution of A.V. truth.

It's not your call to say whether my Holman Christian Standard is a bible or not!

It's my bible, and I use it. I read it, apply it to my heart, and live it out in my daily life.

Is this still talkJesus? Or talkKingJames? ....I'm beginning to wonder.

If you want to call the holman Christian standard a Bible it's your choice. If you want to read a Bible that perverts the Words of God, go ahead, it's a free country. No one can pick your Bible for you, sister. All we can do is give you the truth and let you do what you think is right.

God Bless

The Holman Christian Standard Bible
Whose Standard is it?

Cody, I visited the site about HCSB and found this sentence in the very first paragraph:

The Holman Christian Standard Bible
Whose Standard is it?

By Will Kinney

The Holman CSB is the latest in a long line of modern bible versions that rejects the Traditional Greek New Testament readings, as found in such English Bibles as Tyndale, Coverdale, Bishop's, Geneva, and the King James Bible.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't the King James Bible mentioned along with those others as being a modern english bible?

I have nothing against the King James Bible at all. I also have nothing against the Holman Christian standard. This 'author', Will Kinney, keeps saying that the Holman writers have made things up out of thin air. Is he sure about that? How steep is his research? And why should I trust one person's opinion of the matter?

I think it's fine that you prefer KJV, but I don't think it's fine to force that version on every other christian person that you meet.

Jesus didn't speak english while he was here on earth in bodily presence. He wasn't white and he wasn't anything close to being American.
Jesus is of Jewish descent and the Jews are God's chosen people, not Americans or the English speaking. Americans were grafted in as Gentiles. To think otherwise is prejudiced and wrong.

Did you know that when Wycliffe missionaries settle in with tribes of other peoples', they don't necessarily try to teach the people english. They learn the language of the tribe and translate the New Testament for them, then the Old Testament, so that God's Word can be proclaimed to them and they can receive the glory of the Gospel of Christ and grow in Him!:sun:

The Gospel is for all people irregardless of language, gender, race, age, or social status.

King James Version rocks. In my opinion, so does Holman Christian Standard...and yes, even the NIV. One thing I know you and I can agree on: Jesus IS the Rock; the Way and the Truth and the Life, the Alpha and the Omega, and He's big enough and strong enough to take care of all our little discrepancies and disagreements.

It's all about Him. I know you know that. I know it too. But sometimes we have our moments when we forget. I'm including myself here.

I love ya, Cody.

I don't believe I said it in those exact quotes you quoted. I said that God has preserved His Word in the English language. Where do I get that?

Psalms 12:6
"The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times." KJV

English was the seventh language to be translated into the Bible. I don't know what you're talking about America for because England is what I'm talking about. England holds absolute time and absolute location, so why not absolute truth?

God Bless

It's saying the KJV is one of the Bibles that go along with the Traditional Greek New Testament. Most of the new versions go against it.

Love you too, sister.

I guess you could conclude that from this verse but if you take the whole context of this scripture I seriously doubt that the author, even in the most remote way was stating anything in the way of God's word or the Bible being translated into english or any other language for that manner.

He is simply stating that God's words are of the utmost pure, like silver that has been ran through the furnace seven times. In many cases the number seven in the old testament has the hebrew meaning of numerous and some cases regarded as complete, it doesn't always mean an exact amount.

Bottom line in this context of scripture is you may not be able to count on a man's word but you can always trust in God's words.

I don't think that you understand what interlinear means. Interlinear is the same text in different languages printed in alternating lines in a book. You can get a KJV interlinear bible also. There are interlinear bibles in almost every translation. Translations should always be compared to the original texts and this is what you will find in most interlinear bibles.

It's funny but it seems to me that 99% of the threads that trash bible translations are started by some KJVO person.

Exactly. Definition from American Heritage Dictionary

in·ter·lin·e·ar
adj.
  1. Inserted between the lines of a text.
  2. Written or printed with different languages or versions in alternating lines.
Why are we made to defend the Holman Christian Standard, the NIV, the New King James Version, the Living Bible, etc?

I do not need to defend the Word of God. The Word of God defends itself. Frankly, I'm tired of hearing about how I'm not in God's will if I don't read the King James Bible. The Bible still stands. The Bible has several modern versions but they are the Bible; as opposed to the Torah, the Book of Mormon, the book of Wicca, etc.

If we're going to complain about books, why don't we complain about these books who deceive people and are full of untruths?

"All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." 2 Tim 3:16, 17

"But as it is written: What no eye has seen and no ear has heard, and what has never come into a man's heart is what God has prepared for those who love Him." I Cor. 2:9

(Those were from the Holman Christian Standard Bible)

I agree sister. We must rely on the Holy Spirit (the Bible's Author) for understanding of His Word. You cannot do better than this simply by using a specific translation (version). That would be putting the translation's "power" over the Holy Spirit, the Author Himself. Makes no sense at all. The whole KJVO is complete nonsense as well. Its almost worshipping the KJV translation as a book over the Holy Spirit's gift of understanding in the first place.

If you don't have a King James Bible, then you DON'T have a Bible!!!

KJVO non-sense. Read what I said above. I tell you, if you do not have the Holy Spirit first, foremost then you have no idea what your reading regardless of what bible translation you choose to "only" read.

John 16:13

13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Any more KJVO threads will be deleted, not just closed. I'm tired of people worshipping specific translations over relying on the Spirit for understanding in the first place.

Also, on a side note as to why certain modern translations leave out this or that, I think there are two factors involved. First factor is what I believe is the most part, called copyright. Within copyright laws, a certain portion of something published must be differentiated to a certain degree to be able to actually legally copyright this new material. This obviously is going to change in this case, the Bible to a certain degree as well. This is not necessary a bad or good thing. This is just copyright laws which began after the KJV was originally published.

Info: U.S. Copyright Office - Information Circular

Wikipedia Info: Copyright - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(not sure how reliable Wikipedia is, read at your own will)

Second reason is obvious: Satan's deceitful tactics to attempt to corrupt the Word. Obvious examples? Jehovah's Witness, Mormon's, Catholic "versions" (not translations I would even say).

I understand your concern, Chad, but no one here is worshiping any versions. You're right, we can't understand the Word of God without the Holy Spirit. We can't suspect to understand it's true meaning without being in the Spirit first, very true.

But, what if the Holy Spirit reveals unto you that someone is trying to pervert God's Words? God's Word is being attacked and for me to be quiet and tell someone it is alright to read a version that has publishers that support homosexuality. I will never put God's Word down like that. God puts His Word on high and I believe we should too, instead of taking verses out, taking out words and adding words.

Jeremiah 23:36
"And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every man's word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God." KJV

Psalms 138:2 "I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name." KJV

Like brother Stephen pointed out, how can you ignore something like this....
In the TEV/GNB, NIV, NKJV it says in Micah 5:2 "Out of you will come for me one whose origins are from ancient times."

Whereas in the KJV it says, "Out of thee shall He come forth whose goings forth have been from everlasting."

These versions are denying the Eternal pre-existence of Christ.

You mentioned obvious examples how the devil uses versions, but what about the not so obvious ways? The devil is deceitful and he's a liar. He is trying to water down God's Word as much as he can and you know what? It's working, many are deceived.

John 8:44
"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." KJV

I'm aware there are bad translations out there, but I explained the point that it involves the two factors: copyrighting laws and the devil's tactics. Copyrighting does not have to necessarily be originated from the devil himself when it comes to the Bible. His tactics are infinitely small in comparison to what GOD can reveal to you, put you through, and redeem you from (deceit, bondage, etc you get the idea).

I mentioned faulty versions such as JW, Catholic and Mormons. These are obvious ones from the devil, even just adding a specific name before the words "Holy Bible" on their covers. That explains the motive right off the bat.

I also had to remind people that the Holy Spirit is the Author and giver of understanding. Lean on Him, pray for wisdom and guidance and let GOD guide you without jumping the flesh and running up the whole KJVO charade.

I don't mind exposing false translations within PROPER RESEARCHING & PRAYER, however I think the whole KJVO parading is foolish. I'm not the only one who read modern translations for years and was growing in the Word and my walk with the Lord just fine. I started off with ESV first year, NIV for about 2 years, NKJV for a year and now on the KJV Study Bible.

Don't forget, people go by their own understanding most of the time. They want to defend themselves so they look good (or at least so they do not look bad) for the sake of their own reputation and safe haven. If one would truly surrender to the Holy Spirit and listen to Him, the rest speaks for itself.

People become so lame that they put so much effort into the whole KJVO mentality and forget the true purpose we are given as disciples here. That purpose is one Word / Name is Jesus. Reach out to the lost, not debate over KJVO being the "authorised" version from GOD or not. That's childish non-sense. What about the big well known and well respected Christian organizations? How about BGEA? I've seen them quote out of the NIV. Does that stop GOD from giving people understanding of His Word, His love in Christ? No! Does it make everyone in BGEA a worker for the devil? Absolutely not.

First of all Chad, I want to say I love you in Christ. I thank you for allowing me to be a moderator and for all the kind words you've gave me while I've been here on talkJesus.

I don't believe that standing for the King James Version is silly. About a year or less back, I thought about getting a new version Bible. A lot of people I knew used them and was talking about how easy they are to understand. I went one day to the Bible store to get a new version and thank God the store was closed. After that I begin to think about it more and more. I thought, "are these new bibles really the truth?" "Why are people so against the new versions?" "Why are my grandparents, friends, preachers telling me to stick to the King James Version?"..etc

After that, vacation Bible school came. One night the preacher preached about how the King James Version came about. He talked about how the kings before didn't allow people to translate the Bible into English. Then he talked about how William Tyndale prayed that prayer, "God, open the eyes of the king of England," right before he was strangled and how after that King James came along and let a group of men translate the Bible into English. I mean just that is amazing, in my opinion.

I will continue to believe that the King James Version is the best Bible for the English speaking people. I believe God has preserved His Word in the King James and I thank Him for that. I'm not trying to make myself look good and I don't care about my reputation. I care about God's Word and I want to stand for the truth. I pray that I decrease and He increases.

John 3:30
"He must increase, but I must decrease." KJV

Finally, I want everyone to know. If you read a new version, I don't look down on you. You won't burn in Hell just because you read a new version of the Bible that has verses or words taken out. But, I do want you to know that I will be praying for you and I pray that God shows you the truth.

Love in Christ and God Bless

Is like saying, red sox sucks and NY yankees rules. HAHAHAHAHaaa:shade:

Ha ha ha Yankeeeees

You mean Go METS

Better yet why not say, I follow only Jesus
I will be led by only the Holy Spirit.

Lets not make idols of the things of God.

John 18:37 (NKJV)

37 Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?”
Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”

If I read the NKJV or any other, are you saying the voices that I hear are the devil. If the KJV is truth and I got saved at 13 reading the NIV and KJV for almost 7years, should I question who's authority am under.

I dont think so, I belong to team Jesus.

Its not a peep rally, there are other threads that carry fruitful messages and its sad that some of you only post in KJV threads.

There shouldnt be favoritism in which thread you post in, or the thread started or posters.

James 2:9 (AMP)
9But if you show servile regard (prejudice, favoritism) for people, you commit sin and are rebuked and convicted by the Law as violators and offenders.

I see allot of meaningful threads and no one replies or even take the time out to read, we are here as a body to fellowship not start sects. There's no caste system in the House of God.

Its ok to have beliefs, but to make it out as though you're no body if you dont follow " us " is silly.

I support many Christian sites, some quote from other versions, should I start a rally proclaiming them satanist. No I wouldn't and shame on all you for judging and condemning other for reading God's word.

Chad closed a thread the other day, it would of taken some courtesy to take a break from posting, wait a while a least 2 days, When one thread closes, another one is resurrected.

Before you start a thread, ask God to show you your motives...
If you're being led by a version instead of God, at least say What Would Jesus Do.

You KJVO paraders need to learn a lesson about research instead of running up copy/paste off Google every thread of yours. Get with it and stop pretending to know it all when all your doing is copying/pasting without any research (obviously) at all.

Thread locked. Learn about copyrighting, read my last post and learn a little, research a little and pray a little harder.

I'm 100% confident you KJVO followers have no defense as to how people who do NOT start off reading or currently read KJV, grow in the Lord with wisdom and understanding of the Word for many years. The answer is? Holy Spirit, not KJV ONLY mentality.

This thread is over 2 years old, bumped up by member ltpage. You did the same thing, bumping up another thread that I closed that was over 2 years old just to parade your KJVO non-sense. Grow up and stop bumping old 2+ year old threads just to boast about KJV.
