Hey everyone I hope anybody know what a deacon is and I have complain form some people that when and gone against me for being a Deacon or a deaconess because I’m 17 years old that is not married or don’t have a child. To look what the bible says of today I got something to say about this, Why? Because it is deep then that.
I believed that the lord had show me something to what deacon is a post to be from the bible?
The word deacon or a deaconess comes from a Greek word diakonos, This Greek word means a servant or helper and occurs.
Okay, now what do I see from the bible…

1 Timothy 3:8-13
8Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
9Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
10And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
11Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
12Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
13For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. Old KJV

Deeper Look…

8 In the same way, deacons must be well respected and have integrity. They must not be heavy drinkers or dishonest with money. 9 They must be committed to the mystery of the faith now revealed and must live with a clear conscience. 10 Before they are appointed as deacons, let them be closely examined. If they pass the test, then let them serve as deacons.
11 In the same way, their wives[e] must be respected and must not slander others. They must exercise self-control and be faithful in everything they do.
12 A deacon must be faithful to his wife, and he must manage his children and household well. 13 Those who do well as deacons will be rewarded with respect from others and will have increased confidence in their faith in Christ Jesus. New Living Translation

Another Closer look…

8 Church helpers must also be good men and act so people will respect them. They must speak the truth. They must not get drunk. They must not have a love for money. 9 They must have their faith in Christ and be His follower with a heart that says they are right. 10 They must first be tested to see if they are ready for the work as church helpers. Then if they do well, they may be chosen as church helpers. 11 The wives of church helpers must be careful how they act. They must not carry stories from one person to another. They must be wise and faithful in all they do. 12 Church helpers must have only one wife. They must lead their home well and their children must obey them. 13 Those who work well as church helpers will be respected by others and their own faith in Christ Jesus will grow. New Life Version

You no what I realize is that the bible is not just saying about deacon because if we take that word out and transform it as a word servant because I realize that the bible is explaining that a servant of God is welcome to have a wife and a child but never divorces.
See now I look what the KJV bible says, 12Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

OK, I kept looking at the word (Let) and why’ll seeing a word deacon with a small D not a capitalize D and it had an S in the end of it! Come on now, nobody not trying to hear me now.
See it is saying that all servant of God, rather it is a women or a man of God they are more then welcome to get married but they can’t not or never get divorces according to what I heard.
See now being a deacon or a helper or a servant right alone with pastor, evangelist and ect, ect is not necessary to be married.
So really in that King James bible it did say let deacons be a husband , It did not say deacon shall have a wife or Deacon need a wife ,it only say Let Deacon be the husbands of one wife.
See, I hope I look at it deep to what may said, well this was the bible says to what I'm reading. Well have you look and take a time to read to what it is say?

See I’m a Deacon Elect of Right Now Ministries or Right Now Deliverance Ministries..
I’m maybe young and not married don’t mean I can’t serve my Lord as a servant!

But I did learn to what this verse is saying here> 10 Before they are appointed as deacons, let them be closely examined. If they pass the test, then let them serve as deacons.
So we need to look at it deep and take time to look what the bible says

Ephesians 3:7
I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power.
1 Timothy 4:12
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Re: "What deacon is......."

In ancient Israel, marriages were arranged by the two families involved and the husband and wife were quite young when they were married, not yet out of their teens. Also, when a married woman could not bear children, it was a sign of God's disfavor, which made her a social outcast. So, when it came to choosing deacons in the first century church, it seems only natural that being married and having a child would have been seen as a sign of maturity and a sign of God's favor on the marriage.

But, while that doesn't necessarily apply in the 21st century, churches still need to be cautious in choosing leaders, making as sure as possible that wisdom and sound judgement will be in place in the future.

Stylz, if you've been elected to be a deacon, it means that people trust you to become a leader. They know you're young. They elected you because they see great potential in you. It's not about how mature you are right now. It's about how mature they think you can become and how valuable you will be to your church in the future.

So, when you take your place on the deacon board, start out as a learner so you can grow into being a leader.

Brother. I don't think you should worried about the fact that you are single and not married. But you should "read" what the Word of God says.

1 Timothy 3
Overseers and Deacons
1Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task. 2Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. 5(If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?) 6He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. 7He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap.

8Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. 9They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. 10They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.

11In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.

12A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well. 13Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.

14Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that, 15if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth. 16Beyond all question, the mystery of godliness is great:
He appeared in a body,
was vindicated by the Spirit,
was seen by angels,
was preached among the nations,
was believed on in the world,
was taken up in glory.

The text above I placed in bold says this:
6He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil.

You are a recent convert. Your profile says you accepted Jesus in April 2006. It's a little bit over a year. That is very recent brother.

I will pray that you won't become conceited, because being conceited like the devil is a very bad fate.

My advice to you would be to give up the role of being a deacon and study God's Word and learn all there is to know about Him. After 3 or four years of living in the faith and producing fruits of the Spirit, look into becoming a deacon again.

God bless
Much love

LOL, don't worry I'm not confused to what I am doing amen because why I no that the devil is the author of confusion in our lives and that I did had grown from there to here and really I did, but I'm still learning but like I said before I'm not a Deacon I'm a Deacon elect which means my Pastor choose me to be one for later on amen so don't worry and I'm in my Minister class and still learning and how to be a leader so I'm alright, but it is not over a year is one year and about to be in one mouth and I know know what God is doing for me

Okay, that makes more sense.

You have given me peace of mind. Remember those words in the Bible brother. It's not good for your spiritual health if you become a deacon after being a Christian for a short while.

The devil will use his followers and ways to bring you down. But if you learn about Jesus for a few years, nothing can stop you.

God bless you
