Throw Away Bible?

Umm i have a question i have a bible i found that is really old i already have a bible in my room and i don't know what i should do with the other bible because the cover is torn and worn out and the pages are torn.

I also heard that it's wrong to throw away a bible and you have to barry it or burn it im really not sure what to do with it? can anyone help

I honestly do not recall reading anything in Scripture about properly disposing a bible. However, it is important to keep in mind that the value of the Bible is the Living Word Jesus Christ Himself, not the physical material side of the book. I'm guessing (some one please correct me if I'm wrong) that you pray to GOD who already knows your motives are not wrongful, that He will give you the peace to properly dispose this bible. There are many ways to get free bibles, purchase bibles and donate bibles. I highly doubt GOD is going to condemn you for throwing away a bible which is torn and not pleasant to use, meanwhile you have a new replacement.

As long as your in the Word, thats priority brother!

I do agree with what Chad is saying. However, I have several copies of Bibles. I use them when I study the word. Different translations have different ways of phrasing a passage.

If you could, then I would suggest donating it. There could be people in extremely impoverished countries who consider your Bible a treasure.

But like Brother Chad said, pray about it!

I've thrown out several bibles over the years because they were torn, or the binding was broken, or both. Its the message in the book that's sacred, not the book itself.

I know people who use their worn out tatty Bibles as they know exactly where to find what they need in scriptures. I guess it depends on how badly worn out or torn the pages are in the Bible.

The Word of God is living and active sharper than a double edged sword. Heb.4.12

I see nothing wrong with throwing away a Bible if it is no longer any use to anybody. It means it has been used really well over time and that is good.

How about donating the Bible to a sunday school where the pages that is still readable can be use to make a collage of some sort. This will double up as a lovely wall hanging and it will also give you extra time on reading the Word. You can even do it for your own home by hanging the collage in the passage or somewhere where you pass everyday. Read the scripture and be filled with the wisdom. Make some more and donate it to other places like homes and orphanages etc. Just my thoughts on the matter. But the first thing is pray about it, as Brother Chad said.

i would urge you to keep the bible even if it is torn i agree with the guys are saying you know what you should do keep a treasure box and keep all the old stuff to be honest i have never thrown a bible away and i dont think i would yes i know if its torn it is no use but i urge you again to keep it away somewhere so you can remeber it.

when you were down it was the bible that you took and read the bible is a written word of God many people in other countries are dying just to have a small part of that bible and maybe even a page but there you are got the whole bible i say keep it until you are really sure about what you are doing to be honest again i will feel bad if i had to throw it away you can give some one or just keep it.

I am awed by Zulu's idea of making a collage. I have an old NIV bible sitting here beside me at the computer with my new Holman Standard Bible. I also have a Living Bible that I got in high school, but I don't use it much.

My old NIV bible is irreplaceable. It has the first 33 chapters of Genesis and the Table of Contents missing. It has no back cover or front cover but the inner part of the binding is still holding the book together. I hate to give it up. I'm not sure that I can, but the collage idea sounds great.

Perhaps I can order a new NIV bible to replace it. It hurts me to think of doing so.

I received this bible from a friend in 1991 soon after I gave my life to Christ. It was well used. It has notes and markings in it that are still valuable to me.

You should see my Sunday School teacher staring at it. I brought it once to church. She couldn't take her eyes off of it. She must have thought it was my grandma's bible or something, lol.

If you do buy a new NIV, be sure that it is an NIV and not a Today's New International Version. Unfortunately the NIV people put out this new rewrite of the NIV with all the gender inclusive nonsence, even after many promises not do do so. I.e., it becomes gender inclusive by excluding all mentions of the male gender. So God the Father becomes God the Parent, Jesus the Son of God becomes the Child of God and so on.
Myself I still use my Living Bible for daily reading, but use the NIV (and 16 other versions) on my computer bible study programs. (I use 3).

Thanks for posting that bit about the TNIV - I didn't know they'd done that.

You know...if God wanted to be God the mother, He would have written it that way. He didn't. I'm guessing there's a reason.
