Hi all

I hope everyone is well. Just got back from a great service but something has worried me. If you have read my previous posts you will know im normally worried about something!!

Well here goes,, Im worried that when I found God/ Became a Born Again Christian I may not have said the Prayer of Salvation correctly or said the right prayer? Would that make me not a Born Again Christian Or Would God know in my heart what I was getting at? I have repeneted for previous sins and basically my whole outlook on life has changed, I belive that It is only trusting in Christ that can save you from sin, although in my early days of understanding what I belive i felt trusting in God was the way, does this matter ie God or Christ? or again would God know what i was getting at? Ive always known that a true Christian is a person who has put his or her faith and trust in the person of Jesus Christ and the fact that he died on the cross as payment for our sins and this description is me, but what If I said the prayer wrong initially ( and it was quite a long while ago now so I cant quite remember what I prayed! )

I have spoke recently about the verse;

Jeremiah 17:10

I, the LORD, search the heart,
I test the mind,
Even to give every man according to his ways,
According to the fruit of his doings.

This is kind of easing my fears a little as if God searches the heart than I know I he would find the truth in me, does the verse only apply to Christians or mankind as a whole?

any help would be greatly appreciated

God Bless

By the way when the passgae says I, the Lord - does that mean God or Jesus. I think God?

Do not worry brother. You are born again alright. However you can speak to the lOrd all the day long. You can tell Him that you love Him, as you go about your daily life. Every time a thought of doubt about your Salvation enters, you can give the LOrd thanks that you are saved. Thank Him for saving you. Thank Him for healing you. Thank Him for His blessing upon your life today.

He is a loving heavenly Father.....and He just wants to encourage and to bless every one of us. We need to communicate with Him all the time......at least every day. The more we communicate with Jesus, the more His presence comes into our lives.

God Bless You

Thanks for your reply Stephen, I will take on board everything you have said

God Bless

You are so sweet. you gotta stop worrying:shade: You're on the right path. The prayer of salvation is printed and spoken in so many places and worded in various ways, its just something that man has composed to make it easier for people to understand how to be born again, the words are guide lines for what we can say, and based on scripture. We all need to know that God loves us John3:16, Admit one is a sinner. Romans 3:23, Believe that sin separates us from God Romans 6:23 Confess our sins and He forgives us. 1John 1:9 and so on,

But we still have to be sincere in what we say and come to God with contrite hearts, and understand that without repentance of sin we are eternally separated from Him, its not meant to be a fly by night prayer and then just sit back on our laurels, its a true committment to follow Christ for the rest of our lives.
Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me" John 14:6. So yes Jesus Christ is the mediator between us and our Father, God. Jesus was sent to earth as God in the flesh.
Only through Christ, we get to know God and have eternal life
John 17:3 'Now this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."

So yes you are right, we must put our faith and trust in Christ, we can't leave Jesus out of the picture. Then we get into the whole trinity thing. God is Lord, Jesus is Lord, and we have the Holy spirit, they are separate but all one and the same aswell.
When we Pray we pray to the Father and ask in Jesus name. John15:16..... the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name."

I am not so great at explaining, and am learning myself also, so I am right there with you. I have been going to bible study and we are studying the book of John, and it is helping me to understand alot more. So maybe reading through John again might help you also.
God Bless

I have a problem with the sinners prayer and here's why. Too much emphasis is being put on exactly what you are talking about. The words don't matter! What matters is that you realise you are a sinner, you repent of those sins, and you trust Jesus with your eternal salvation, knowing there is nothing you can do in yourself, to gain eternal life.

Here is an example of why I don't like the sinners prayer, or someone leading someone else through the sinners prayer. Lets say you have cheated on your wife, and you go up to her with a friend of yours. Your friend tells you, " I am sorry for cheating"

You tell her "I am sorry for cheating" Is your wife going to forgive you? No because it wasn't heart felt. It's not about the words, it's about the heart. You need to repent, and believe, that is what God asks for. Not a special set of words.

The thought often comes to me as I pray. "I really do not know what to say" Seriously, there are times.....often, when I do not know how to pray, I do not know what to say...

I think some of you have felt like that also. You do not know what to say.........you wonder if you have said the right thing........has the Lord really heard my prayer......and so on. Rest assured the LOrd has heard your prayer. The Psalmist cried.........cried...mind you.....that is all you have to do. Call upon His name......

"Likewise also the Spirit helpeth our infirmities; for we know not what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And He that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God".

This is a step further for those who have been baptised with the Holy Spirit. I have enjoyed this blessing. So in those times when I do not know what to say,....how to pray.....I begin to pray in tongues. I feel that this is more powerful than praying with the understanding.

What ever happen to praying with your hearts? I have said this many times, words are yuckie. When new christians pray i can understand why they use words. But matured christians need to pray with more than words. If you do this you will not worry if you said the prayer right. Thats silly! How can you pray wrong? For even when people do pray with words, God listens to their heart not their words. Have no fear my brother, God knows you better than you know yourself. He sees all that you are and what you stand for, thus you are saved in His eyes

I think that the verse John

John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

sums my initial question up. Still a little worried I guess that when I said became a Christian that I might not have fully understood why Jesus was killed on the cross ( I do now of course ) but I have always belived that Jesus is the Son of God. So what Im saying is that the verse above has given me some hope that the last year hasnt been a waste and that in Gods eyes would I have been Born again? Im sure God would have heard my prayers over the last year and knew where I was coming from, and i know the Only way to God is through Jesus but what if i wasnt fully sure why he died on the cross.

any help as always would be greatly appreciated

God Bless

Hi,
I, too, have always had that stupid nagging little voice whispering in my ear that I am not saved, that I didn't do something correctly, that . . .

The thing you have to understand is that it is satan whispering in your ear, planting doubts - ignore him. Do what Jesus did, say "Get behind me satan"

This is what faith is all about. You know the Word of God is true, that He never lies. Now all you have to do is believe.
There is nothing on this earth, nothing, absolutely nothing, that can take your salvation away. When you were saved, God wrote your name in his Book of Life and he does not erase names!

Someone told you about Jesus, what he did, why he did it
You believed what they said
You repented of your sins and asked forgiveness
Now all you have to do is believe

Don't doubt your salvation, not for one minute

believe and obey......that is something that people seem to want to leave out of the salvation message. No offense intended to you "On The Path" but too many times people ignore Jesus' command to "Keep my commandments" This was in the new testement, I am not talking about Levitical Laws. Now I am not saying that you have to earn your salvation, I am just saying there will be fruits accompanying salvation. The Bible says work out your salvation with fear and trembling. It also give you a book to help you know if you are saved or not. There is about 10 different fruits that 1st John says accompany salvation. Read it find them, and see if you have them, if you don't have any of the fruits, you might not be saved. Not that you were saved and now have lost it because you have no fruits, but you might not have been saved, and that is now evident because of a lack of fruits.

Did I jumble that up enough?

I agree. We need to pray in faith, in spirit and pray sincerely. No template of words, just speak from your heart. GOD would rather have 1 sincere comment or word from your heart than a thousand words programmed, like the Pharisees.

We believe God is Truth, therefore pray in truth as well. Pray sincerely that is.

Matthew 6:6-8
6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.[a] 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.
