Why is creationism less common in the UK compared to the US?

Creationism is a US invention.
Bible idolatry emerged as a way to establish a “higher source of authority” than the pope. It was sufficient for most non-catholics to reject papal authority. But the problem as with all fundamentalism is that the true zealot has to go further. Much further.
So one gets into the territory of taking the bible, with all its poetry, and metaphors and allusions as being literally true. Every word. Of course this means accepting as true, entirely contradictory statements. But the zealot can embrace contradictory statements without any form of internal struggle. (It’s ea

Agnostic atheism is the fastest-growing ‘belief’(/not believing) system in the UK. We are not just different, we're getting further apart. I put it down to The Church of England being mostly about Summer Fêtes and Jumble Sales and there being very little social pressure to believe in sky fairies. Good education can help with that too.
Maybe the age of many British churches helps. If the congregation spends its time raising money to fix the church roof it doesn't have time to recruit. The size of the country probably made it easier for The Enlightenment to reach more of the population.

My answer: Education. Less religious schools and less home schooling. It's a long time since I was in school but even though we still had prayers and hymns in assembly, Creation and Genesis were part of Religious Education classes, which were about all religions, not in the Science Class.
That being said my sister works in a Roman Catholic School where Creation is taught.
(I know the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church have officially accepted evolution. It seems that in the case of this particular school it comes down

Why did American creationism never gain the same following in Britain as in the US?
You have to understand that creationism is the child of the American evangelical movement, which is itself the religious wing of the far right Republican Party.
The evangelists realised a long time ago that the teachings of Jesus are diametrically opposed to their political views, so the evangelists have basically airbrushed Jesus from their preaching and preach mostly from the Old Testament.
This wasn’t really a problem - except the hypocrisy of Christinity without Christ - until the mainstream churches started to accept the scientific evidence for the age of the Earth etc. While all of the churches active in Europe have accepted that the Old Testament is at best allegorical, the evangelists can’t as they would have no religion left.

So there you have the reason the dumb stupid British believe they are evolved from monkeys and believe they are higher educated than Americans.
