How many movies have you seen where a group of teenagers throws a party and the parents come home early? This trope is a common device to heighten tension in a film. It works because people can relate to the feeling of nervousness that comes with doing something they shouldn’t.
Everyone’s greatest fear while doing something bad is being found out. It goes all the way back to Adam and Eve, who—after eating the forbidden fruit—were afraid of having their sin uncovered: “They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden” (Genesis 3:8 AMPC).
The solution to that nervous feeling isn’t covering up, but being naked and unashamed. When you have nothing to hide from God or others, you can live without fear. It won’t matter exactly when Jesus returns, because you will be found doing the right things when He does.
As Paul wrote, “For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we do not belong either to the night or to darkness” (1 Thessalonians 5:5 AMPC).
Prayer: Jesus, may I be found living in the light when You return.
