How is your garden doing?

1Cor 3:6; I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth.
1Cor 3:7; So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.
1Cor 3:8; Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.
1Cor 3:9; For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.

It seems that God puts certain people and situations in our lives. We all know people who need God.
We should be sharing the gospel with them. The good news of eternal life and Jesus Christ. Being set free from the sin that enslaves us.
..and sometimes we do share with them.. but it seems many of them don't receive it. At least not immediately.

But that's OK, maybe you're just the seed planter. Or maybe you're some one who waters the seeds along the way.
You may never see the plant come to maturity or fruition. But even so, you had a part in taking care of that plant. Now of course we ourselves
don't cause the plant to grow. God causes the growth (according to verses 6 and 7 above).
But we can plant and water.. and some times, we can even reap the harvest.

Matt 9:37; Then He *said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.
Matt 9:38; "Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest."

Now of course the harvest is people. People being converted, saved, entering the kingdom of God.
But our job is to plant, or water, or maybe some times reap the harvest.

When God created the Earth, well.. more specifically the garden of Eden.. He put man there to take care of it.

Gen 2:5; Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the LORD God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.

God created man to take care of His garden.

Gen 2:15; Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.

You know, God could have created the garden to take care of itself. Wouldn't be great if your yard would de-weed itself, and cut it's own grass every week? Well, my yard isn't like that.
I have to care of it.. or it just goes wild and gets out of hand. But God put us here to take care of His garden. Plant seeds, and water them... and perhaps even harvest some of them.
But the seeds don't get planted and watered, or even harvested without us being involved.

So.. how is 'your' garden doing today?

Its the first year of truly trying to do a good garden as its the first spring and summer of retirement, more time for such. Its so so, learning stuff, its a learning year, but I have kept up the weeding which hadnt done before. Tried the 3 sisters method and it flopped. Got more tomatoes and squash than I know what to do with, still not sure about how our potatoes will do, strawberries are first year planted, not many strawberries, but lots of runners starting new plants. The pole beans litterly pulled down the corn stalks and killed some. The bush beans did okay. Did some soil samples and sent them off waiting on results on how to have a better soil next year. I love to grow things you can eat, my wife mostly wants to grow flowers, but the bees lover her gardening more than mine, although they do like the bee balm I planted and they love the corn silk.

And I do lots of planting of seeds and weeding, spiritually, but little harvesting unfortunately. Some similarities to my actual garden LOL.

If people want the Fruit of the Spirit they must plant and cultivate and God will give the increase. Do not mistake the fruits with gifts. And remember different fruits take different times to grow. Sow to the Spirit and in due season you will reap.
