Is God's light shining forth from you? (Numbers chapter 8 verses 1-12:16)

PARASHAH: “B’ha’alocha” (in your setting up) NUMBERS: 8:1-12:16

Is God's light shining forth from you? That should be the goal of all believers. Just as the Menorah gave forth light to fill the Holy place, thus we should shine God's light to fill those who are around us.

We see in this parashah study, various themes. The first being of “putting up the lamps” or one could say; “going up to light the lamps”. This speaks of the golden Menorah, which was inside the Mishkan. As we know it was made of pure gold, one single piece hammered out to light the inside of the Mishkan. How they did that, making it from one piece of gold is a miracle, but we serve a God of miracles.

The menorah had seven branches, “7” is the perfect number of YHVH. Gold symbolizes purity. So, we serve a pure and holy God who sent YESHUA who is the LIGHT of the world. The seven-branch menorah had seven lamps which were filled with pure olive oil. The priests would light the lamps in the evening until the morning light. The light of the menorah was the only source of light in the Mishkan. Outside was darkness, yet YHVH was outside in the form of a column of fire, inside, the menorah burned so that light was always there.

Yeshua is our light, He is with us and gives us his light both day and night. We are like the branches of the menorah; we need to stay connected to the oil to have light. Yeshua said: “Ye are the light of the world”, just like the moon has no light of its own but reflects the light of the sun. The moon up close is full of meteor craters, it is a pock-marked satellite in space, not very attractive up close, but when we look at it from the earth, we do not see the pock-marked surface, only the light that is reflected from the sun.

The same is with all believers, we are all “pock-marked” with the stain of sin, but YHVH looks at us through the light of Yeshua and sees us as “kol kadosh” (All holy). The stain of sin is not only covered by the blood of Yeshua, but also atoned for. Dealt with completely.

The Levites were offered up to YHVH for service. To honor this, there was the burnt offering and the sin offering on their behalf. There were two bulls and an offering of fine flour. The bulls speak of the strength of Adonai, and the fine flour, one could say “Yeshua the Bread of Life”. Yeshua is our strength and our life, if we are going to be like the Levites, dedicated to serving HIM, then we need HIS strength.

In chapter nine, we read about the Passover, always to be celebrated by ALL believers, even if we can’t celebrate it always on the 14th day of the first month, such as the case of some who were unclean by touching a corpse. There is always provision, they could celebrate it on the 14th day of the second month. All believers celebrate the Passover (abbreviated) when we take communion, some churches do it twice a month, and some celebrate it every Sunday, but no matter what the tradition is, we are reminded of HIS body and HIS blood.

When the cloud lifted, the Israelites would move, when it settled, the Israelites would stop and make camp. That is the way all believers should act, when we are led by Adonai, we should be sensitive to his calling, to his direction, sometimes we need to wait on him, wait for him to move, or move others, sometimes the waiting can be a few days, or years. We should try not to get ahead, that HE may not follow US, but US following HIM.

Chapter eleven tells us about the “complaining” of the people. Sounds like us at times; “grumble, grumble, grumble and groan!” “What? Manna again?” we’re tired of manna Waffles, manna bagels,

Fillet of manna, manna patties, manna tortillas, manna-shakes, etc.… Oh the stuff we had in Egypt, we miss it so much!” but…they forgot to mention that they were slaves, slaves to a tyrant. Adonai gets angry and “fires up” the people. “You want meat?” “OK, I’ll give you meat!”

Rex Humbard, a TV preacher once said; “God may give you what you want, but you may not want what you get!” We need to be satisfied with the little or the much that Adonai gives us, be it just beans and rice with tortillas, or a steak with potatoes. HE will ALWAYS supply our needs. Sometimes I think that people eat just too much. We need the physical food but we also need the spiritual food which comes from the Torah.

Chapter twelve speaks of Miriam and Aaron, when they spoke against their own brother Moshe.

It says, “because of the Cushite woman that Moshe married” What happened to Zipporah? Maybe she died. A Cushite is a Sudanese, a black woman. So what? In some places, there is still racial bigotry, some do not believe in “mixed racial marriages” God doesn’t have a problem with it, and there is not a commandment against it.

There IS a problem with mixed FAITH marriages, when one is a believer and the other isn’t! then, there are problems with being “unequally yoked” Yet the problem addressed was that Miriam and Aaron were questioning Moshe’s authority as leader. “Hey, God speaks to us all, right? Well... back then, it was Moshe who conveyed Adonai’s words, yet Adonai placed his spirit upon 70 other tribal leaders too, this was to help Moshe “bear the burden”.

Miriam was stricken with “Tza-arat” (leprosy) she was afflicted with some kind of skin disorder for her words against her brother. But why wasn’t Aaron stricken as well? He was there too? Aaron was under the “anointing” while Miriam was not. Moshe prayed for her healing, the shortest prayer in the Bible; “El na r’pha na lah!” (Oh God heal her!) and seven days later, she was healed.

Let us be careful of our words that are directed towards servants of the LORD, lest we err and suffer the consequences, we may get more than just a skin rash. We should uphold our spiritual leaders and support them.

Shalom

That was Awesome:)Ly done!
I got excited behind that one! It’s not very often that I “hear” the Words of God, but I definitely hear that one…lol….And was spoken beautifully!

I do have a question though if you don’t mind…

By what criteria would one use, in this age, to determine what Spiritual leaders to support and uphold, when there are so many different understandings about That Spirit, and how to listen and follow?

There are So many false leaders out there.. So many different understandings….Even just within Judaism and Christianity itself.

I’m not disagreeing with you here:) I agree that Spiritual Leaders; As our “elders” should be respected. I just find this an important question when faced with the reality of our Religios world where our Gods words are contained at the moment.. and the affects and effects it has upon all of us( believers and non-believer- in our God.)

Shalom Luminary,

Good question and it is worthy to answer,

Yes, so many different understandings. Who is classified as an "elder?" Would it be a senior citizen over 60? or one who is "spiritually and scripturally mature?" I would say the later. We have many who are "elders" as far as age concerns but very "immature" in faith matters.

Yet if "so-and-so" is nominated as an "elder" by a pastor, or rabbi, that person is to be respected and treated with honor, such as an officer in the Armed Forces, even though you might not like him or her, you are respecting the "rank." or "position"

Spiritual leaders should uphold ALL of what the Bible teaches. And when one of the congregation members is in error, the elder should approach that person with gentleness and with a humble spirit to show the person where the error is, and what the Bible teaches in accordance to the same. That is called "judging" yet not "condemnation" Now, if a person questions an edler's interpretation of God's Word, that person should speak his or her mind, but in a respectful manner and in private. and share with that elder what is on his or her mind concerning scripture. We can all agree to disagree in some areas. I have seen that myself because 90% of the articles and commentaries I post have the smallest amount of readers. But it isn't how many are reading, it is "whoever" is reading, may they understand what I am trying to get across.

There may be slight differences in some areas of doctrine, however, the major doctrines of the Judeo=Christian faith should be adhered to and upheld by ALL elders and leaders, such as the "new birth" "salvation through faith, the inerrancy of Scripture, the unity of fellowship of ALL believers in ONE body even though we may be separated by language and culture, the rewards in Heaven, the pain and suffering of hell, etc..

Thank you for the response! I can agree to the majority of what you say and can see where you are going with this:)

As A Child of God, only being ‘10’ in Christ, I have found it very difficult to truly find an “elder” that speaks according to the Spirit and not according to the world. Which in turn has left me with a lack of respect for most. I can’t say I have any guidelines, other than I know it when I hear it…But I can agree to what you have provided here:)…For the Spirit testifies!, and I certainly heard it within this post of yours. Thank you for the time you have put into this!

Would you have any suggestions as to direction of the Judeo- aspect? One that isn’t caught up in the legalism and understands the Spiritual aspect of what was spoken?

Always remember to check out what people say and teach in accordance to the scripture. Does it jive with scripture? If not, it is just commentary, or misunderstanding, and that happens a lot when we look at scripture from a Western perspective and not from a Hebraic perspective. Maybe you can look for and visit a local Messianic congregation where you live, in your city. If you tell me where you live, I can look into it.

We are not bound by legalism, but by the Spirit of the Torah (law) In other words, we don't obey the commandments of the Torah in order to achieve salvation, BUT...as a RESULT OF our salvation experience. To show our love for God and obey what He has commanded us to do, (at least, those commandments which are for today)

I have very much found and done what you have advised here, as far as what is said and taught. It is the Scriptures that have reared and raised me. In many ways. And because of this, when I ventured out I could see immediately where it was going wrong. And after traveling through many different denominations in my city, I ended up alone with the scriptures. It’s like nails on a chalk board what is spoken today. And I find myself with 0 patents because of it. So I’m quite skeptical when it comes to those who have been “appointed” by man, claiming to be from God. Especially in this Age.No matter the title or label. But I do give all a chance though to show themselves. Perhaps you can PM me, and see if I could find a messianic congregation:) That could be interesting!

I didn’t mean bound by legalism. And am very much on the same Page with you! (The Spirit of the Torah) Maybe legal was the wrong word to use. It would be more along the lines of rigidity and conformity. Strict guidelines. But Judaism, from what I have learned, has its many flavors just as Christianity does. So it’s just the general sense that I get from the over all…

I actually started out with the SDA, and they very much hold to the OT as best they can. Very strict to the sabbath and dietary laws. They just tend to focus more on the 2nd Coming in a very dramatic way! With a lot of literalism.

I dont Claim to be a Christian. Jesus has simply given me my life back, Truly a New Life, and I love Him more than words can truly express. Just Him being Him!!!
Yet I’m labeled one because of this. And from what I’ve come across starting with the SDA, and venturing out on my own, doing my own studies, Judaism isn’t a home for me either. This sent me to all other religions, and has provided the most profound understanding behind every label we profess. In whose ever name….There isn’t even a word to describe it! For nothing truly compares!

My struggles at the moment, are the OT. Many things have “come to light for me”, and it’s a massive study, that requires time I don’t have at the moment. So I’m kinda in a limbo, as those I come across to teach it, go along what has been shown too me; the wrong story line. Which changes everything. On all sides.

Yet I come across few here and there, who can speak **according to scripture**, without chapter or verse, doctrine or Church/congregation/synagog….. pulling things together that I have come to understand, and so much more. This can be no other than the Spirit of God, who teaches through many different kinds of mediums. It’s actually pretty cool…lol

So I very much appreciate what you have provided here:) For I can testify to the Truth of it, as it has protected me and guided me from the very beginning of my “birth”. And I appreciate the dedication that you give to following what you hear also! The world needs more! (To reveal themselves!!!)

If ye love Me, keep My commandments.

And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

People love labels. Ever give someone a label maker? They will stick a label on everything they encounter. They will exhaust themselves tagging names on everything in sight. Then, they will take the extra labels they can't find a place for and put those labels in a tupperware container and stick one final label on it-- "Labels" and put that container on the shelf beside "Flour" and "Sugar" and "Corn Flakes."

When folks can't determine exactly what kind of label to stick on you (you will now get one that says "Former SDA") they have to choose something generic- like "Heretic" or "Blasphemer"....... Rejoice! Those are the labels they stuck on Jesus.

I’ve come to a point with labels, that it doesn’t really bother me anymore like it used too. I use them myself so others can know where I’m coming from. Or at least get a sense for exchange. I can even say I Am all of them, which in turn makes me none of them at the same time;) Which flips them all in their heads…lol
