So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for [many] days. The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke by Elijah. 1 Kings 17:15-16 NKJV

Imagine the faith it took for a poor widow living in a place called Zarephath to do as the prophet Elijah had commanded her. She was so poor that she believed she and her son would die of starvation (1 Kings 17:12). Yet she willingly risked what little she had and did as Elijah had asked, preparing for him a small loaf of bread.

The Bible doesn’t say anything about this woman before she met Elijah. But it tells us plenty about how her faith directed her actions. Because she believed Elijah’s word from the Lord, God abundantly met her needs.

What would you do if you felt God leading you to give out of what little you have? God can take just a little and multiply it for you—if you have the faith it takes to give Him what little you have.

Prayer: Lord God, I will take a big step of faith. I may not have much to offer You today, but what I have, I give to You to use as You see fit.

Hi Nick, thanks for your passage and thoughts, it's so inspiring. It takes an insane amount of faith, love and devotion to God that surpasses all human logic to hand over to God your last few cents or pennies.

The account of the poor widow at the Temple refers-

And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.” Luke 21:1‭-‬4 NKJV

What happened to this poor woman? We're not told. What these two stories do tell us is that we have a duty to help our poor destitute brothers and sisters around the world who face extreme poverty and starvation. They are brothers and sisters and we're commanded to love them with the same depth of love as Jesus loves us.

Thank you once again.

Greetings Andy and Nick,

from what you both shared, it doesn't have to be money or food... it can be our coat or shoes... but it can also be something bigger, but when you don't have much, the things you can give are far fewer to 'choose from'.

I am reminded often that we do have something the world can not supply... do we give any thanks to God for all he has given us and if so, how much and how often and in what circumstance?

Prayer: Lord God, I will take a big step of faith. I may not have much to offer You today, but what I have, I give to You to use as You see fit
may we be made aware by the Lord Himself what he would have us give and may we be willing do do so.

Bless you both ....><>

I thank the Lord for Brothers like you who always are so uplifting and kind to others, willing to serve
