Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.

Romans 7
7 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over (a man as long as he liveth?) Note: man needs to be crusified with Christ.
2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
4 Wherefore, (my brethren), ye also (are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; ) that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth (fruit unto God.)
5 For when we were in the flesh, the (motions of sins), which were by the (law), did work in our members to bring forth (fruit unto death.)
6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in (newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.)

Romans 2
26 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature,( if it fulfil the law, judge thee), who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?
28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Galatians 3
19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But (before faith came, we were kept under the law), shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the (law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ), that we might be justified by faith. note: to convict us of our sinfilled ways
25 But after that faith is come, we are (no longer under a schoolmaster).
27 ((For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.)) Note: Robe of righteousness

Galatians 4:4
4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Colossians 2:14
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
...
Rev 21
22And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
23And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
24And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
25And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
26And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
27And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Psalm 46:4-5
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
The holy dwelling places of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved;
God will help her when morning dawns

Hebrews 11:10
for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.

Revelation 21:2
And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.

Hebrews 11:16
But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them.

Ezekiel 48
“...and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there.”

Concerning Romans 7:4. I have always disliked Paul for sayings like this. I cannot marry a man, because it is gay. I can never shake that feeling from these verses. I know God was married to Israel, but I can sort of calm that down in my mind and accept it. Men married to Christ just rings different, and it reminds of like the trick of the Nicolaitanes to steal all your wives (Revelation 2). I believe Christ does not want us to fall for things like this.

I don't know how it shows up on your screen, but on mine for some reason it puts a winking smiling face in verse Romans 7:4 in your post. I have actually seen this happen before when posting scripture, but only once. It reminds me of Proverbs 10:10.

"10He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall."

Greetings,

I don't know how it shows up on your screen, but on mine for some reason it puts a winking smiling face in verse Romans 7:4 in your post. I have actually seen this happen before when posting scripture, but only once.

I have fixed that.

What happens is that when we use a semi-colon : and an end-bracket ) together , the software picks that up as what some use to express a winking face, and in this case, that is then loaded as a picture.

If you look at the top of the writing section when you are writing a post, you should see a 'smiley face' in the toolbar. Click on that and it will open a selection of 'face' pictures and things. If you hover over them, you should see what those pictures would be 'written' like.

Often in Scripture, there is a section in brackets and as part of the punctuation being used in the sentence. Unfortunately, if that is typed here, it gets 'read' by the software as one of those smiley type faces.

I shall see if that can be changed

Grace and peace
Jesus is Lord

Bless you ....><>

Sin has separated us from God and is driving us as sinners further and further away from Him to hell where the absence of all that is good and of God is at and eventually the lake of fire which is the second death; eternal, separation from God and all that is good.

So when our Creator and our Redeemer hung on the cross taking our sins upon Himself this was reflected in His creation as the light from the sun & the full moon went out for 3 hours as the Son experienced that separation from God the Father because He was made sin for us so that we may be made the righteousness of God in Him.

Matthew 27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

2 Corinthians 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

So being married to Jesus Christ is the best analogy He can provide for how we are reconciled to God through Jesus Christ in reuniting with Him that fellowship that was broken because of sin. There is no metaphor to describe just how close we have been made with God now thanks to Jesus Christ. him being the Bridegroom testify to just how much we have been reconciled to God through Jesus Christ so that sin cannot sow doubt as to how close we really are to God now.

Darkness at the crucifixion: metaphor or real history?

Is there historical evidence for the darkness & earthquake at the crucifixion?

Well, I like the NLT translation better this time ( for both Romans 7:4 and Proverbs 10:10). Not always, but this time. When it describes it as unity with Christ, instead of marriage.

I prefer the marriage reference for unity since sin has separated us from God and so marriage shows just how much we are united with God now as in reconciled to God thru Jesus Christ aka the Bridegroom.

Thanks for sharing.

You can always ask Jesus Christ to help you love Him as God, your Creator & Redeemer, rather than seeing Him as a man even though we were created in His image and after His likeness.

Psalm 2:11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

It bothers me, but apparently this was practiced back then.

Luke 22:47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.
48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

As a man, I see French kisses on sides of the cheek and so I do wonder about that kiss we are to give God.

But then Peter and others said this;

1 Peter 5:14 Greet ye one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Acts 20:37 And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him,

Romans 16:16 Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.

1 Corinthians 16:20 All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.

2 Corinthians 13:12 Greet one another with an holy kiss.

1 Thessalonians 5:26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.

A kiss of charity and a holy kiss.

That is certainly not being practiced in the church nor in public outings. I am not about to start either with all of that aggressive & provocative LGBTQ + campaign going on.

But I do hope in Him that He will perfect that which concerns me that I shall love Him as my God to kiss Him on the cheek with a holy kiss of charity when I see Him in Heaven.

1 John 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.

Psalm 138:7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.
8 The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.

And there is neither male nor female YH is Omni all His children are His Bride
We must not see it in our eyes of the flesh but let YH show us the Spiritual aspect so to say

Hope that helped the cringe a bit

Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus with a kiss. A friend of mine had a Christian Dad, he once told us, "If any man tries to bow down and wash my feet I would punch him in the face."

I didn't understand that so much back then, but I do now. Instead of betraying Jesus by going behind his back and kissing him, I should punch him in the face for saying to marry him.

Not sure why he would say that about someone washing his feet, when this was done to Jesus...

Luke 7:36 And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.
37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
41 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.
42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?
43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.
44 And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
49 And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?
50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

And unto another moral to this action is that Jesus set the example for the rest of us to follow;

John 13:3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.

12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

I admit I have not seen this example practiced regularly in any church, let alone by individual believers for me to follow Him by.

Maybe it is the threat of being punched in the face that has put an end to that practiced? Not sure why it would when no one can really force themselves on any one to wash their feet if they do not want their feet to be washed.

Maybe if they were barefoot and all and see the need to wash their feet, but I can see how wearing the kind of shoes we have is why feet washing is no longer a practiced custom of our times.

As for greeting the brethren with a kiss, let alone the Son of God, I trust Jesus Christ when He brings me to perfection that I will kiss Him proper in Heaven and the brethren thereafter but now? Not a customary greeting of our times.
