Fall on us and hide us from the [m]sight of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; 17for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?

1The word of the LORD whichcame to Zephaniah son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son of Amariah, son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah:

2“I will completely removeall things

From the face of the [a]earth,” declares the LORD.

3“I will remove human and animal life;

I will remove the birds of the sky

And the fish of the sea,

And the Zephaniah 1 New American Standard Bibleruins along with the wicked;

And I will eliminatemankind from the face of the [c]earth,” declares the LORD.

4“So I will stretch out My hand against Judah

And against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

And I will eliminate the remnant of Baal from thisplace,

And the names of the idolatrous priests alongwith the other priests.

5“And those who bowdown on the housetops to the heavenly [d]lights,

And those who bow downand swear to the LORD, but also swear by [e]Milcom,

6And those who have turned back from followingthe LORD,

And those who have not sought the LORD norinquired of Him.”

7[f]Be silent before the Lord[g]GOD!

For the day of the LORD is near,

Because the LORD has prepared a sacrifice,

He has consecrated His guests.

8“Then it will come abouton the day of the LORD’Ssacrifice

That I will punish the princes, the king’s sons,

And all who clothethemselves with foreigngarments.

9“And on that day I will punish all who leap on the temple threshold,

Who fill the house of their [h]lord with violence and deceit.

10“And on that day,” declares the LORD,

“There will be the sound of a cry from the Fish Gate,

Wailing from the Zephaniah 1 New American Standard BibleSecondQuarter,

And a loud crash from the hills.

11“Wail, you inhabitants of the [j]Mortar,

Because all the [k]people of Canaan will be destroyed;

All who weigh out silver will be eliminated.

12“And it will come about at that time

That I will searchJerusalem with lamps,

And I will punish the people

Who are [l]stagnant in spirit,

Who say in their hearts,

‘The LORD will not dogood nor harm!’

13“Their wealth will become plunder,

And their houses desolate;

Yes, they will build housesbut not inhabit them,

And plant vineyards but not drink their wine.”

14The great day of the LORD is near,

Near and coming veryquickly;

Listen, the day of the LORD!

[m]In it the warrior cries outbitterly.

15That day is a day of anger,

A day of trouble and distress,

A day of destruction and desolation,

A day of darkness and gloom,

A day of clouds and thickdarkness,

16A day of trumpet and battle cry

Against the fortified cities

And the high cornertowers.

17I will bring distress on mankind

So that they will walk like those who are blind,

Because they have sinnedagainst the LORD;

And their blood will be poured out like dust,

And their flesh like dung.

18Neither their silver northeir gold

Will be able to save them

On the day of the LORD’Sanger;

And all the earth will be devoured

By the fire of His jealousy,

For He will make a complete end,

Indeed a horrifying one,

Of all the inhabitants of the earth.:pensive:

Indicative, Imperative.

Scripture referenced:- Zephaniah chapter one.

Hello @PloughBoy,

The words, 'The day of the Lord', are found in the Old Testament and the New Testament, but I will refer here just to those within the Old Testament:-

* 4 references in Isaiah -2:12; 13:6,9; 4:8:-
'For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty,
and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:' (Isaiah 2:12)

Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand;
it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.' ( Isaiah 13:6 )

'Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger,
to lay the land desolate: and He shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.' ( Isaiah 13:9 )

'For it is the day of the LORD'S vengeance,
and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.' ( Isaiah 4:8 )

* One reference in Jeremiah - 14:6 and one in Lamentations - 2:22:-
'For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge Him of His adversaries:
and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood:
for the Lord GOD of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.' ( Jeremiah 46:10 )

'Thou hast called as in a solemn day my terrors round about, so that in the day of the LORD'S anger
none escaped nor remained: those that I have swaddled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed.' ( Lamentations 2:22 )

* Two references in Ezekiel - 13:5; 30:3:-
'Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge
for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD.' ( Ezekiel 13:5 )

'For the day is near, even the day of the LORD is near,
a cloudy day; it shall be the time of the heathen.' ( Ezekiel 30:3 )

* Joel has four references - 1:15; 2:1,11; 3:14:-
'Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand,
and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come. ( Joel 1:15 )

'Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain:
let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;' ( Joel 2:1 )

'And the LORD shall utter His voice before His army: for His camp is very great:
for He is strong that executeth His word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?' ( Joel 2:11 )

Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.' ( Joel 3:14 )

* Amos has two references - 5:18,20:-
'Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.'( Amos 5:18 )

'Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it? ( Amos 5:20 )

* Obadiah has one - 1:5:-
'For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done,
it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.' ( Obadiah 1:15 )

* Zephaniah has six references - 1:7, 8, 14, 18; 2:2,3:-
'Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand:
for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, He hath bid His guests. ' ( Zephaniah 1:7 )

'And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD'S sacrifice, that I will punish the princes,
and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.' ( Zephaniah 1:8 )

'The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly,
even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.' ( Zephaniah 1:14 )

'Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD'S wrath;
but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealousy:
for He shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.' ( Zephaniah 1:18 )

'Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you,
before the day of the LORD'S anger come upon you.' ( Zephaniah 2:2 )

'Seek ye the LORD, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought His judgment; seek righteousness,
seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the LORD'S anger.' ( Zephaniah 2:3 )

*Zechariah has one reference - 14:1:-
' Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.' ( Zechariah 14:1 )

-----------------

* So Zephaniah has the most references in the Old Testament to the words, 'the day of the Lord'.
* My understanding is that the day of the Lord is a period within which the Lord will reign: Man's day having passed; the day of God yet to come. (2 Peter 3:12).
' And when all things shall be subdued unto Him,
then shall the Son also Himself be subject
unto Him that put all things under Him,
that God may be all in all.'

Hello again, @PloughBoy,

In the New Testament there are but four direct references to the words, 'The day of the Lord', but I believe that the reference to 'the Lord's day' in Revelation 1:10 should be included:-

1Co_5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
2Co_1:14 As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.
1Th_5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
2Pe_3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Rev 1:10) I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

* The Lord's day, or the day of the Lord was being revealed to the Apostle John in vision form, while described as being 'in the spirit', as in Ezekiel 31:1:-

'The hand of the LORD was upon me,
and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD,
and set me down in the midst of the valley
which was full of bones,'
(Eze 37:1)

Hello YET again, @PloughBoy, :)

Why do you use the word, 'Their', in relation to wrath, ( 'Their Wrath' )? For it is the wrath of God's being referred to isn't it? Do you have a reason for using that word particularly to make a point?

'He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life:
and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life;
but the wrath of God abideth on him.'
(John 3:36)

'For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven
against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men,
who hold the truth in unrighteousness;'
(Romans 1:18)

'Let no man deceive you with vain words:
for because of these things
cometh the wrath of God
upon the children of disobedience.'
(Ephesians 5:6)

'For which things sake the wrath of God
cometh on the children of disobedience:'
(Colossians 3:6)

'The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God,
which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation;
and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone
in the presence of the holy angels,
and in the presence of the Lamb:'
( Revelation 14:10)

'And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.' (Rev.14:19 )
'And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.' (Rev.15:1)
'And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever.' (Rev.15:7)
'And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.' (Rev.16:1)

* These verses are clear as to whom and what are the objects of God's wrath.
* John the Baptist preached concerning the wrath to come. (Matthew 3:7 & Luke 3:7)
* The Lord also in (Luke 21:23 & John 3:36)
* The Old Testament reveals more of the wrath of God, and how it is poured forth, why and upon whom.
* In Ephesians we are told that it is 'the children of disobedience' who shall experience God's wrath.
* The will of God is that we should believe on the One Whom He hath sent, the Lord Jesus Christ, and it is the absence of belief in the good news that God has revealed concerning Him that constitutes that characterisation as :- 'The children of disobedience'. God has spoken, and His witness to the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ to secure the reconciliation of the world unto Himself has been made known, so all are answerable.

DO WE BELIEVE HIM ?
HAVE WE RECOGNISED OUR NEED OF A SAVIOUR?
HAVE WE SOUGHT HIS FORGIVENESS?
HAVE WE RECEIVED THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AS OUR SAVIOUR AND LORD?
OR ARE WE CHILDREN OF DISOBEDIENCE? WALKING IN DARKNESS, HAVING NO LIGHT.

Thank you

I think you have a disturbing problem with me with in yourself. That you must come to full acknowledgement and deal with it, on this planet and not the kingdom to come.

Your quote:
“Why do you use the word, 'Their', in relation to wrath, ( 'Their Wrath' )? For it is the wrath of God's being referred to isn't it? Do you have a reason for using that word particularly to make a point?”

Alright, you know what I am getting ready to do to you:eyes:

You just come back for more. You can’t stay away.:heart_eyes::heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

Are you familiar with “Beethoven and Mozart” “Sonatas”? What wonders a “Piano” can play when the right one is playing The Piano keys. And I am not a piano player. But I know a “POTTER” who is.

Now listen to The Tone as HE “Compose”, The Piano keys together.

Like I have said, there is a known “Bias” in some of the English translations, to translate the. Greek Text of Holy Scripture you need more than a “Greek Lexicon” :eyes:

Many have no idea what many Publishers have done with The “English Translative Text of The Original Copied Manuscript” to please females and “Beta males” in the “IInstitutionalise Church” and that body of Believers out number the few.

Now when will it be your time, to walk among the few?

Now I am not referring to your “Salvation”. What’s so ever.

Note: There will be a time when “Jesus The Anointed of GOD Who is The WORD of GOD who is THE SON of GOD Who is GOD will bear and deliver “THE WRATH of GOD” for There is Only “ONE GOD” and “ONE LORD” and One Faith!

And a “Finite mind” cannot Comprehend a “Infinite GOD” who is “Incomprehensible”by a “Finite mind”.

Now, what do you believe!

Now, do you feel the “Composed” music. That is also “Called a Labor of Love”

If you like, There is a lot more in the Book that also will declare this, but why should I do your homework. And I am Quite sure you are not fun of “Regurgitations”.

20As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21yet such a person has no root, but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, that person immediately falls away.
