How Do You Know You Are Saved?

After Jesus had risen from the dead he appeared to his disciples and said.....

Joh 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

This was not the baptism of the Holy Spirit, that would not happen for serval days later.

Act 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

This is the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

What do you call the Spirit given in Matthew 10:1-20 when Jesus gave them power and said that the Spirit of their Father will speak through them, and yet Judas Iscariot was not a believer but a traitor?

I call it temporary indwelling.

Both the Born again of the Spirit John 3:7-16 and the promise of the baptism with the Holy Ghost that was to be sent from the Father after His ascension when He was no longer with them ( John 14:1-26 ) which is the one and same event at our salvation.

Now that the Church had recived the Holy Spirit (salvation) and later the baptism of the Holy Spirit many who already been saved and baptised in the Holy Spirit were once "again" filled with the Holy Spirit,

Act 4:30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.
Act 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

This is a description of New Testement Church.

Peter & John got arrested when 5,000 potential believers were about to get saved. After release, they went to them and reported what had occurred for why those 5,000 potential believers prayed that they would be like Peter & John and then they got saved as a new community of believers. You can discern that by what they did afterwards by selling everything they had, laying it at the apostles' feet and then distributing it evenly among each member of that new community of new believers. If they were saved believers before that event, why didn't they had that done before hand? So I see that event for which you are referring to was when those 5,000 potential believers actually got saved.

Yes That's a legal covenant statement

Admon Mikha'el said:
1 John 5:11-13
11 And this is the witness: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Those who have the Son have the life; those who do not have the Son of God do not have the life. 13 I have written you these things so that you may know that you have eternal life — you who keep trusting in the person and power of the Son of God.

Your version has it on keep trusting in Him that they are saved when having believed in Him is how they know they are saved.

1 John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. KJV

I would use the KJV for those worrying about their loved ones suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

You are right that power given to his disciples was only temporary because Jesus had not yet paid the price for man's sins.
Jesus breathing the Holy Spirit upon his disciples was "after" his resurrection from the dead.

Both the Born again of the Spirit John 3:7-16 and the promise of the baptism with the Holy Ghost that was to be sent from the Father after His ascension when He was no longer with them ( John 14:1-26 ) which is the one and same event at our salvation.
Jesus told his disciples exactly why they were to wait in Jerusalem.

Luk 24:49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

That power which only the Holy Spirit could give would be by the anointing of the Holy Spirit. This has nothing to do with salvation, but for service, in exactly the same way Jesus received at his baptism, where the Spirit of God fell upon him.

What did Jesus preach everywhere he went?

Luk 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
Luk 4:19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”

You are right that power given to his disciples was only temporary because Jesus had not yet paid the price for man's sins.
Jesus breathing the Holy Spirit upon his disciples was "after" his resurrection from the dead.

These references proves that the born again moment of our salvation, including the remaining disciples, was to happen after His ascension when Jesus was no longer with them as sent from the Father.

John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

John 14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

It had everything to do with salvation.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

It was not until Jesus breathed upon his disciples did any of them get born again. How do I know that?

Joh 20:19 That evening, the disciples gathered together. And because they were afraid of reprisals from the Jewish leaders, they had locked the doors to the place where they met. But suddenly Jesus appeared among them and said, “Peace to you!”
Joh 20:20 Then he showed them the wounds of his hands and his side—they were overjoyed to see the Lord with their own eyes!
Joh 20:21 Jesus repeated his greeting, “Peace to you!” And he told them, “Just as the Father has sent me, I’m now sending you.”
Joh 20:22 Then, taking a deep breath, he blew on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

Jesus's disciples were scared to death of being spotted by the Jewish leader as it says in verse 19 for they had been with Jesus for a long time. When Jesus breathed upon them to receive the Holy Spirit they received salvation and were made new creatures.

After Jesus told his disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they would be endued with power from on high he was lifted up to Heaven. What happened to Jesus's disciples from the time he breathed upon them the Holy Spirit to before the day of Pentecost?

Luk 24:51 While he was still speaking out words of love and blessing, he floated off the ground into the sky, ascending into heaven before their very eyes!
Luk 24:52 And all they could do was worship him. Overwhelmed and ecstatic with joy, they made their way back to Jerusalem.
Luk 24:53 Every day they went to the temple, praising and worshiping God.

His disciples went from being scared to death of what the jews would do to them to being absolutely overwhelmed, and ecstatic with joy, praising God every day in the "Temple" (not behind locked doors)!!! Only born again people go from being fearful of their lives to being ecstatic and joyful every day. This was before the day of Pentecost!

Do you know what a “future indicative” is? Without looking it up, and trying to access its meaning in reference to a Biblical “text of scripture”?

And please do not get bent all out of place, Either you know or you don’t.

Well, those words are not something I use, but I think I understand what they mean. May be used as something that will happen in the future for sure, but has not happened yet.

Are you referring to the fact that when Jesus breathed on his disciples and said, "receive ye the Holy Spirit" it was a coming event and not meaning right now?

You have read you whole Bible and you view “The Book” as a whole and never in parts or as a one piece puzzle.

Well you gave a weak try of a “Future Indicative” of a “Biblical text” pertaining to a text of scripture.
I would give you grade of “D” if I was your Professor.

And you should know better. To be so loosely and carelessly concerning the biblical text.We must fear how we handle the text “In TRUTH”.

The problem maybe, Your fear of Holiness is slipping away instead of increasing. Maybe, that is your call not mine.

No, they were not. Thomas was not among them when He had done that, remember?

That event in John 20:22 was the same as the event in Matthew 10:1-20 when even Judas Iscariot was temporarily given power & the Holy Ghost along with the rest of the 12 disciples.

Once again, His disciples were not to be born again until after His ascension when He was no longer present with them for when they were to be saved.

John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? 11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. 12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

His disciples were not born again until after His ascension which was after His crucifixion for whenever any one believes in Him to be saved as in born again of the Spirit.

Jesus's disciples were scared to death of being spotted by the Jewish leader as it says in verse 19 for they had been with Jesus for a long time. When Jesus breathed upon them to receive the Holy Spirit they received salvation and were made new creatures.

Joh 20:22 Then, taking a deep breath, he blew on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

That event did not get them to go out to preach the gospel yet, did it? Jesus just gave them peace which is also a fruit of the Spirit, but that was not the power yet to be given at their born again of the Spirit moment of their salvation.

John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

After Jesus told his disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they would be endued with power from on high he was lifted up to Heaven. What happened to Jesus's disciples from the time he breathed upon them the Holy Spirit to before the day of Pentecost?

That was why Jesus told them to wait in Jerusalem after His ascension. Did you noticed how, after His ascension, they glorified Him and worshipped Him? It was at Pentecost for when His disciples got saved & the power to preach the gospel.

They were not preaching the gospel yet until Pentecost and they certainly wasn't verbally praising & worshipping Jesus Christ in that Temple yet but praising & worshiping God, otherwise they would never get away with it before Pentecost.

They were not born again until Pentecost for when the prophesy was fulfilled to speak of other men's languages to the devout Jews from all nations under the heaven about the wonderful works of God, aka the Good News of Jesus Christ to man.

Acts of The Apostles:

Chapter 1.
Wait for the Holy Spirit

4And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? 7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

John 16 NASB

7“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper shall not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.8“And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment;9concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you no longer behold Me; 11and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. 12“I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.

They err, not knowing the scripture.

Forgive them for they know not what they do, but we are instructed to reach out to them in this wise.

2 Timothy 2:24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

Galatians 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. 16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

You mean the many that do want to go, but are unable to?

Luke 13:24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. 25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. 27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. 28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. 29 And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. 30 And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

Any work of iniquity including heresy that denies Him, He will deny them for that reason even though they are still saved after having been excommunicated as in disqualified aka judged as reprobates from the Marriage Supper above.

Titus 1: 16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

2 Timothy 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:

12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

So those saints that do not repent of that "spiritual" fornication ( am iniquity that denies Him ), will be excommunicated and thus left behind as cast into the bed of the coming great tribulation as this church was warned. Revelation 2:18-25 but their spirits are saved for they will be with the Lord when they die ( 2 Corinthians 5:7-11 ) , to await for their resurrection after the great tribulation. Revelation 6:9-11 Revelation 7:9-17 Revelation 20:1-6

Many know who “Jesus” is BUT they do not know HIM as “Lord”.

Jesus has saved us and therefore that foundation ( 2 Timothy 2:19 ) cannot be removed as that seal of adoption ( Ephesians 4:30 ) is not going anywhere, but not every one will be found abiding in Him to eb ready when the Bridegroom comes.

Hebrews 12:25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: 26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. 27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: 29 For our God is a consuming fire.

Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith
;
who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

1 Corinthians 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

OSAS is true but not every one will be ready as found abiding in Him & His words by His grace & by His help, for the Bridegroom to accept for when He comes. Many are called, but few are chosen is applied in that regards.

John 17:7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

Even though Judas Iscariot repented of betraying him, he still did not believe in Him to hope in Him for himself not to commit suicide. That is my understanding of this scripture so far.

American Standard Version

Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

Hebre
16Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. 17For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

y’all take to many chances for me. To many things for granted,
And give to many people false hope.
And treat sin with a cherry minded perspective.

Difference between Esau and Judas Iscariot, Isaac did give Esau a blessing where Judas was given none. Judas was lost see post #38 in this thread for John 17:7-13 .

Genesis 27:36 And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me? 37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son? 38 And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept. 39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above; 40 And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.

So like the prodigal son, that gave up his first inheritance to wild living, Esau can never get it back, but he is still son. That is not the case for Judas Iscariot.

As it took tome for the Lord to lead you to repentance, we should give just as much patience as Gid is giving to lead them to repentance.

Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith
;
who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

You can save your ink, I did not call him, I didn’t choose Him, He Chose me! So my salvation ain’t fake and I do not have a “Genie” in the bottle where I summons him and he obey’s my wishes and commands.
I had a “Miraculous Conversion” and didn’t have to give my hand to a preacher. Or stand before some and mumble some words I knew nothing about, words behind a preacher who confess I was saved.
So in essence save that print and ask GOD to print it on you soul so you do not have to copy and print it down.

Know what, whatever kind of other “ clairvoyant “ skills you want to express my way?
Are you listening or are you still dull of hearing or are you in need of a Interpreter to translate certain Thought patterns that I trying to commute to your mind? Speak up down or hold your peace.
But please be careful how you chew.

“For many are called BUT only. A few are chosen”
Now that is good news too, some do not have to “Strive”. They are “Chosen”
