Do we sometimes make the mistake of attributing something that God said to a particular person or group ... to ourselves or to everyone in general?
'Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.'
(2Ti 2:15)

Hello @K9Buckeye,

I no longer do, though in the far past I did, out of ignorance, and not by design.

Thank you

Hello @K9Buckeye,

Yes, the testimony of all Scripture provides balance and confirmation of all truth. It is so easy to dwell on one aspect at the detriment of another, or, as you have already mentioned, ascribe unto yourself something which was given to a particular company at a particular time, which has no application to you whatsoever. Context is vital too in understanding a particular verse, and if neglected can lead to error.

There is a guide given by one the early translators of the Bible, Miles Coverdale, which I find useful:-

'It shall greatly help you to understand Scripture, if you mark
not only WHAT is spoken, or written,
but of WHOM
and to WHOM
with WHAT words,
at WHAT time
WHERE
to WHAT intent,
With WHAT circumstance,
considering WHAT goes before,
and WHAT follows.'
