"Nevertheless if you warn the righteous [man] that the righteous should not sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he took warning; also you will have delivered your soul." Ezekiel 3:21 NKJV
We live in a time when many Christians are reluctant to speak up when they see a professing brother or sister in Christ drifting away from their faith and toward sin. The reason? They, like most people in our world today, don’t want to be seen as “judgmental.”
Today’s verse, however, suggests that we who follow Jesus Christ are responsible for confronting fellow believers we see straying. This isn’t just a nice suggestion either; it’s a God-given responsibility.
God has designed the Christian faith so that we believers need one another, and not just so we can spend quality time with like-minded people. We are to hold one another accountable, even when doing so makes us feel uncomfortable. It often not easy to do that, but God calls us to love our brothers enough to tell them difficult truth.
The life direction of someone you care about could be changed…if you are willing to speak the truth to them. Are you willing to speak up?
Prayer: Father in heaven, it’s not easy to confront my brothers in You when I know they are headed in a wrong direction. Help me to always speak the truth in love, knowing that You want my brothers and me to hold one another accountable.
