I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the LORD was watching over me. Psalm 3:5 NLT
Insomnia is nothing new. Waking up when everyone else sleeps is an age-old problem with an age-old source: anxiety.
King David knew that if God was taking care of things, then he didn’t need to survive another night of worry. For Christians, if the worst thing about going to sleep is that you may never wake up, then the good news is you get to realize your heavenly citizenship. You might nurture worry in a way that causes protests every time you put it down. Worry wants you to hold it, cherish it, and give it every moment of your attention. Maybe it’s worry’s persistence that makes you think you can’t live without it.
Worry isn’t a baby, but it acts like one. Yet a king with significant responsibilities could say that God was watching over him so he could sleep and then wake up in safety.
Release the things that concern you, because you serve a God who can take your worry and watch over your life. If you’re tired, weary, and yet very restless, it could be that you’ve taken responsibility for worry God said is not your problem. Give it to Him.
Prayer: Father, take my worry. I don’t need it, and You won’t keep it entertained. You take care of me. What’s left to worry about?
