Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "This message you have given me from the LORD is good." For the king was thinking, "At least there will be peace and security during my lifetime." 2 Kings 20:19 NLT

A common theme throughout the Old Testament is passing along the stories and laws of God to future generations. Hezekiah ended his otherwise commendable rule with a tragic failure that set the stage for disaster for future generations. Rather than leaving behind a legacy of care for future generations, he only concerned himself with his own comfort and safety, leaving a blemish on his kingship.

How can you leave a legacy of faith and love for God? Future generations will benefit from the choices you make today. Beyond leaving an inheritance, you leave a godly legacy by trusting in God and loving Him with your heart, mind, soul, and strength. Rather than seeking to just get by with the comfortable choice or avoiding responsibility for your actions, each time you open yourself to God’s influence is an opportunity to shape future generations.

You may make mistakes and there will be consequences, but beware of the mistake of Hezekiah, who didn’t resolve to repent or make things right. Consider how you can correct your wrongs not only for your own sake but for those who follow in your steps.

Prayer: Lord, help me to leave a legacy of wisdom and repentance for the sake of future generations.

When we follow Jesus, live life by all that HE taught and by HIS commands, your legacy will be: ETERNALLY IN HIS PRESENCE. If others are impressed by that legacy, they will follow, and they too will be ETERNALLY IN HIS PRESENCE. And like that, the cycle continues.
