Is it a sin to read the bible?

Tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Ok. Gaining knowledge of what is good and what is bad is a noble thing. Adam was placed in the garden as an innocent. Like a child he had to learn wisdom in order to tend the garden and rule over the earth.

The problem was that rather than acquire this knowledge gradually under God's authority, he tried to snatch knowledge before it's time.

Reading the bible and meditating on its words Bnd wisdom is a good thing.

This is my question currently.
I think that in some cases the bible can become a god and be more important to some people than God himself.
People who seem to have little love in their hearts for anybody quote long passages to prove they are more knowledgeable about scripture than anybody else.
Nothing is more important then spending time with God and even reading your bible can sometimes be a hindrance to that.

Greetings,

Do you mean that one can get to know lots about the Bible and still not know Jesus?

Bless you ....><>

Well that's one factor and so many people on forums like this seem to fit that description.

What I was trying to say is that we can maybe put the importance of our bibles before the importance of God himself.

What made me realize this is that a few years ago I was admitted to hospital with no time to gather together the things I would need. But I didn’t mind not having my things, not even my bible. I was content and God showed me that it is his presence; his power that surpasses all other things – even my bible - and that this is what I need to live the Christian life. He is the main thing. He is what is important. He is what is vital. His presence isn’t just to be found between the pages of my bible. But of course our bibles are important but not as important as God himself.

Greetings,

We can eat fruit which is so very good for us and thereby be healthy...
but let us be thankful for the tree that bears it

and the LORD Who has provided it

Is it a sin to read the bible?

Greetings @twcstp111

What an unusual question, may I ask why you ask or think it is possible

Let us look at one of the basic Truth's with the Bible, that is The Word of the living God.

God does not want any to be lost - so that tells us He wants all to read it, listen to it, understand it.

The Eunuch had the book of Isaiah and was leaving the Passover, remember his question? How can I know unless someone tells me? He needed to hear The Word, but also to be taught it.

How can we know about Jesus, about Salvation, about sin, unless we read it or are taught it from the scriptures? It is not possible.

How can we have Faith, we cannot. Because Faith comes by hearing The Word of God.

I would however love to hear from you as to why you thought this question was relevant, do not be put off in any way, we are here to help and guide, 'share the Truth in the Word'. I believe if anyone has a question, never to think it is stupid, No, No, always ask my friend.

Ask, Seek and you will find

Bless you

Hope you don't mind me adding a few comments.

The Bible IS The Word of The Living God, nothing can change that, and man is not allowed to change one dot or tittle.

To Christians, I am referring only to the Baptised, Born-Again, washed and regenerated by the Holy Spirit Souls; it is Truth, The Word is our bread of life.

So can a Christian read to much of The Word? I think not, though I understand what you say, could it not be how we perceive what is said, this is a big issue for forums as we know, lots of things accepted face to face in conversation, can be misunderstood or frustrating on any social media type platform.

As we grow in Faith, I think sometimes it is easy to forget that, we were once on milk, we may be on basic solids now but not yet reading, eating and digesting, Sirloin. We must all accept where we are, how much we have learnt, and consider others around us; as saved souls, we all thirst for the Truth in The Word, ut we also have different appetites.

If a discussion starts to get, shall I say, to strong for me, I let those on the stronger meat have their discussions; bring on the desserts (pudding) and lets enjoy a nice cuppa. :)

Sorry for the long statement... Baptised, Born-Again from above, washed and regenerated by the Holy Spirit Saved Souls.
Just quoting John 3 and 1 Peter. ;)

Nice to chat with you.

May the Good Lord Truly Bless you @PearlB

We can eat grapes and drink wine, which is in moderation good for us and healthy.

Let us be thankful Jesus is the vine, and that all born again from above souls are grafted into it.
But also let us not forget the lump, the root from which we came to be able to receive this wonderful gift of Salvation by abiding in the vine with Jesus Christ our Precious and Most Loving Saviour.

I am back brother, not on full steam; the jar may be cracked, damaged and looking worse for wear, but it still holds the Spirit within.

Bless you \o/

This is my question currently.

Someone told me they thought it was a sin to read the Bible in the past. He said that only priests could read it to them and worms would eat his eyes out, something along those lines. I think that is a lie. The Word of God, according to the Word of God:

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" 2 Timothy 3:16

" Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15

I'd say put your trust in the Word of God rather then man. Don't just take man's word what the Bible says, study for yourself. My eyes haven't been eaten out by worms yet.

Edit: one more verse.

1 John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

Sounds very catholic to me, though they are not the only ones, many pastors, under what ever name they are 'employed', think they are the 'Call Ones' and only they should preach, only they are the shepherd of a flock, only they are the ministers of God's Grace.

Sounds like the Pharisees my friend, if the Jews had not taught a person they cannot be a priest. They didn't believe Jesus was the Messiah, is he not Joseph's son they said. Nicodemus was a member of the Sanhedrin, a teacher of all Israel, so they know he hadn't been taught by them.

We are all, once we are born again from above, ministers of God's Grace.

Anyone who says, what is stated above, does not know The Word, are surely not Born Again, and/or they are frightened of losing their 'JOB'.

Bless you

I will explain.

Once I started reading in depth, my insight into things good and things evil increased exponentially, and I asked myself if I was reading (eating) from the same fruit.

The Bible reveals sin, explains satan, warns us of his devious and wicked ways, tells us how we can protect ourselves, from the wiles, the wicked ways of the de in, the enemy of souls.

If we do not read the Bible, we would be like the rest of the lost souls in the world, coming up with every theory under the sun, for evil, for creation, etc. but never knowing the Truth. Only God has the answers, they are all in the Bible, tried and tested over time, proved over time. As God said,I ha e given prophesies so when they happen, you know I said so beforehand and you can believe without doubt.

The blind have developed ways to feel, to read, and to be able to communicate. The deaf have developed sign language. When Jesus was on earth he talked to the people, he taught and did lots more, but now he us in Heaven, sat at the right hand of the Father.

God gave us The Bible, The Word, His Word, so we know how to understand His plans for us, so we know we can pray to Him, so we know about the Holy Spirit. God has given us His Word, The Word, The Truth. He has given us a guide to living, a guide to sin, a guide how to be forgiven, a guide to eternal life, only a fool would not follow it, not read it, but we once were fools, in the world, we knew not the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible, God's Word is to all mankind, for all generations, it gives us knowledge of The Truth so we can come to God through Jesus, learn from Him and how to be saved.

How therefore can it be a sin to read the Bible?

The Bible sheds light on the wickedness in this world, so that we can come into the light, Jesus is the Light, how can we know if we do not read The Word. We cannot know what God's Word says, unless we read it or ha e it read to us.

We cannot read the Bible enough, we cannot read the Bible to much, it is bread for life, it is a stream of living water. It is Life giving, Life changing freely given to be freely read.

Have a Blessed day

Jesus is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father.

Shalom
