I hope this isn't a stupid question. I know God order the Israelite to commit genocide kill all the amelkite even the babies. Why couldn't they just adopted the children and women they are the most vulnerable. Everyone who doesn't worship him is put to death he kind of sound like a dictator and his followers ask no question just go with no flow. When I see something in the Bible that doesn't sit right with me I'm going speak up. I feel Christians are to scared to look outside the box they are in, they will even get a attitude with you or just ignore you. I'm still on a Journey, I haven't read the entire Bible yet but hope one day everything will make sense.
Dear Godsangel,
Good question and one that is asked by not only you, but many who read Scripture. That is why so many see God as being cold hearted, with no compassion, who don't understand why He does/allows things to thrive that we see as being wrong. We look to any child dying regardless of the reason as being before their time. The problem with all this is that not all the Amelkites were killed, and so you follow what the Amelkites did to the Nation of Israeli because they were not all killed.
First one must understand that God does not think like we do. Scripture:
Isa 55:9 NKJV - "For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
Rom 11:33 NKJV - Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable [are] His judgments and His ways past finding out!
Rom 11:34 NKJV - "For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has become His counselor?"
Rom 11:35 NKJV - "Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?"
Rom 11:36 NKJV - For of Him and through Him and to Him [are] all things, to whom [be] glory forever. Amen.
Second He knows what is going to happen, and in this, He wants us to be able to see what happens when one doesn't follow His guidance/directions. Nothing good comes of it, if we don't obey. The road becomes that much harder. Don't think that we know better, because we don't.
1Jo 3:20 NKJV - For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
Psa 147:5 NKJV - Great [is] our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding [is] infinite.
Third, if you perceive this as genocide, what do you think happened during the Flood? He only allowed one family to survive, and yet, if we're honest with ourselves somehow this feels different than that doesn't it? How we readily justify what "we" believe to be the right of things! When its incomprehensible that He gave life to dirt, and we're judging Him???
Col 1:16 NKJV - For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
Psa 115:3 NKJV - But our God [is] in heaven; He does whatever He pleases.
We have a tendency to forget that our God is a Holy God, and its by His Mercy & Grace that He allows any to live. Yet, because of what you don't understand that He does/allows, you then judge Him? The Creation judging the Creator! Amazing really, when you think about it. It's our own way of doing things that has gotten us separated from Him in the first place, and keeps us away from Him. You look at Nations that would actually sacrifice their children to gods, and you look to the One true God, and have the audacity to look at History from a perspective of a Nation that has Abortions by the millions, and critique Him when you don't even know His reasoning? When He sent His only begotten Son to die on the Cross for the Sinning World, and you think He lacks Mercy?
Gut check time, and getting back to the foot of the cross time. Pray for that wisdom and understanding, but most especially love, a sacrificial love that until that day on the Cross was not understood, and barely comprehended these 2000 years later.
With the Love of Christ Jesus.
