I've just had this thought and so I pray it's not too vague. " Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect thoroughly furnished unto all good works. We have to ask ourselves, is this just the scripture in the new testament or both the new and the old? Often when we read the words of Jesus and he is speaking to someone, we take it, that through this teaching he is talking to us all, and the lesson he is teaching is part of a gospel that is to be preached throughout the world. So I could take it, that when he explains rebirth to Nicodemus he is also explaining it to me, 'personally'. If this applies to the teachings of Jesus, shouldn't it also apply to the teachings of his Father, or do the teachings of the living God, cease to apply at his Son's death? I am told by many 'learned' Christians, that I should adhere to the teachings of Jesus, when he tells us to walk the extra mile and turn the other cheek etc. But I'm to ignore the living God when he calls me to tithe. Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Now the Lord tells me to tithe and test him, My brothers tell me that since the death of Jesus, the words of the Father are irrelevant. Who do you think I should listen to? My brothers who can do nothing to me, or the living God? Matthew 10:28. Don't be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the one who can destroy both body and soul in hell.

Trevor, when this letter was written to Timothy, the only "Holy Scripture" it was, was The Old Testament. These are just letters, to address to certain people at the time of writing. The New Testament writings had not be compile yet as "Holy Scripture" Letters was written to certain cities about their problems they where having, this is a new religion with no instructions concerning life. So when there was a problem, Paul heard about it and wrote to them concerning it and told them to pass on the letter, in which the "Amanuensis" copied and sent the letter to Christians in other cities and so it went. But the only "Holy Scriptures" they had was Old Testament, The message was proclaimed, the "Messiah" in "Scripture" has come, look what He has done to me! Is not this the Messiah that the "holy scripture" "OT" has describe! There was a long time before compiling of "Letters" to make up "The New Testament" writings! Writings of a New Covenant, which means "What is in the contract Now, and the condictions and who is the contract with, what parties". It is a new contract, the benefits of the new will that was address in the Old contract to come.

Remember Jesus lived and grew up under a old Covenant or contract that he had to fulfill. For it is written in that contract.
A contract is very important, most of the time you have to have a lawyer to understand it! And that is why Jesus and the Holy Spirit also operates in the offices of a "Advocate, Paraclete"! To explain it. To help us a long. We don't pay tithes and there was never a law for us to do, Jesus was not even obligated, or commanded to pay tithes and he never did.

But Trevor, if you want to pay a 10th of your earning, that is your right. Do so. But you do not teach that as a Christian doctrine, then you are teaching the doctrine of men and not of God.

You would have said, Oh no sorry but your not born again, you've got to go to hell but bless you. And to address the letters of Paul, as 'just letters', is to make light of some of the most powerful teachings in the new testament.

Brother Trevor,We all should learn, what to some is mysteries, but to us becomes a revelation. ( Rom 8:14-15) It does not matter what others think or say outside of our truth( the scriptures) There are so many topics such as faith, hope, and love, that many know in part,as the Word tells us( 1 Cor 13:9-12) Fullness can come to us today! Because we have disciplined our minds not only to become instructed,as you showed, but also to stay that way. Now not everything becomes a revelation, hence why we need each other for confimation,or an event comes in our life to confirm what we believed the Lord has instructed us.( Heb 11:6)

As an example we see how Moses was trained by God in this. Moses at the beginning knew only in part, but as he walked in the faith, the Lord brought about a complete revelation to him.( Exodus 14:13-16) note please an action associated with our faith( verse 15-16) Sometimes the Lord requires an action, that our feeling say is crazy. LOL

Many years ago when I had hair,I wanted to get a new hair dryer,so I went to the store with my brother at a target to get one,I found the one I wanted, but as I reached for it,Holy Spirit inside of me told me that if I would travel 5 miles down the road to a kmart I would get a much better deal. But I had what I wanted right here. My brother said!! I said i know, but I must act upon what I believe the Lord was telling me to do.

He shook his head as if I had lost my mind,my brain was telling me the same thing! LOL Well he took me about 5 miles where the kmart was,and I looked for the hair dryer I wanted and found I saved about 15 Dollars!! I leaped up and down in the middle of the store praising the Lord!! People thought I was nuts LOL I did not care because i learned a great deal that day about how we should be led,and how to stay led!!!

This my brother is just one example in my life. At 66 years of age,I am still learning,I always will, because my mind is set!!! ( Col 3:1-2) and (Philp 4:7-9) I found out brother that if our mind is not set, then we are out of balance( Proverbs 11:1)If we allow Holy Spirit to teach us he will!!( 1 John 2:27).

All we have to do is what I call stay in Holy Spirit school and we will be complete! Many people think we go to far,but I think many never go far enough to receive the prize waiting for them! It takes discipline, self control, and a never ending hunger for God's truth.( Gal 5:22-23) I hope this encourages you,as the Lord led me to speak on this today. Blessing in Christ Mark

Where is the love in pointing fingers?

Many have not come to this understanding, but the word 'You' is often carried by negatives or offences and it does more harm whenever this is not acknowledged and accounted for. One of the mysteries revealed in scripture is that Jesus our Lord refined all his words through seven spirits.

Love is the fulfillment of the law and the prophets.

Sin in man is totally untraceable, and the only way to expose sin in man is by God telling man to do something he knows he could not possibly do. Man discovers sin in himself when he finds out he can not keep the laws of God. The laws of God and his commandments were not made for a "righteous man" but for sinners.

1Ti 1:9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

Rom 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

The only way a man can be made righteous is if God himself does for man what man could never do!

Rom 8:3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,
Rom 8:4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Hi Mark, It's wonderful to meet a kindred spirit. To know and talk to the Lord is life to me, I was once busking in Weymouth, a coastal town in England (I don't know your location), And my camper van broke down. I had it fixed but it cost me all the money I had earned accept for Five pounds. I drove to where we were to spend the night by a lighthouse at a place called Portland Bill. In the morning, to my horror, the engine started to make the most unholy noise, heads were turning, I prayed and the Lord told me, in my spirit, to find a garage. I had only five pounds and I knew that the noise I was hearing was more than five pounds worth. As we travel down the hill from the lighthouse, my daughter pointed out a garage, it was one of those down town garages that had piles of cars out the back. The Lord said no, we carried on down until we came to a garage, with shingle and palm trees on the forecourt and Rolls Royce cars in the showroom, the Lord said, "in there" I asked if he was joking. we drove in and was met by a lady in a uniform and I explained our predicament. Our van, by the way, was painted with bronze hamerite. She sent me to the back of the garage where there were bays for the cars to be serviced and I met the manager, he called a young lad and told him to repair the van. The engine had to be dismantled because the previous garage had dropped a lump of metal into the sump. They had raised the van up on the lifting jack and we were still in it. We prayed, sitting up there and we were filled to tears with the Spirit, and do you know, I still doubted. Finally we were lowered down and I asked the manager where we went from there, He said "give the lad a drink" I asked if five pounds would be enough and the lad was overjoyed, I confessed to the manager that I had no more money, but I offered him a set of my cassettes, so I could sing to him he was delighted. So we left the garage as though we had done them a favour instead of the other way round. The Lord has never let us down. I have many more miracles I could share. however I find the scriptures that rise up in my mind when I need answers and the understanding of those scriptures, the most satisfying. I just love having the Lord as a friend, and I'm really pleased that you're on Talk Jesus. bless you.

The Lord once accused me of being rebellious, I was shocked, because I love the Lord, He asked me what I felt, at the very moment of committing a sin. I had never thought of that. However with consideration, it occurred to me that at that very moment, I thought, sod it, I'm going to do it. (rebelion). Nowadays I'm given the Grace to be more obiedient and I sin very seldom. and that keeps me humble.

Overcoming "sin" comes about by discovering, and understanding that "sin shall not have dominion over us..." (Romans 6:14) James the brother of Jesus tells us some things about temptation and sin.

Jas 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

Temptation to sin comes as the results of our own lusts!! Those lusts come from our human nature and fleshly desires.

James also tells us something very interesting.

1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

The only thing a born again Christain has in "common" with all men is in our human nature that all men have.
Temptation to sin comes to, and from our flesh. This is why the scripture tells us.

Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

how can we do that?

Rom 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
Rom 8:6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

Someone once asked me "how long can a man walk in the Spirit?"
I said, "How long can you keep your mind set on the things of God, that's how long"

God's law as set out in the Old Testament is a theoretical entrance to Heaven, theoretical because getting 99% is a fail and the penalty of fail is death. God when He gave us His law via Moses set the bar deliberately high to drive home that any idea taking and passing this test is a non-runner. Millions of attempts and an equal number of failures later, then came Jesus who lived amongst us and was the first and only one to pass the test and live without sin. By doing so He was able to wipe out the penalty of failure by volunteering to pay that penalty for others. So now there's a new test, one question, multiple choice with just two boxes. 'Do you accept and believe that the Lord Jesus Christ's death as punishment for all your sins and that He rose from the dead and do you want to follow Him?'

Assuming you can get past that, you're in a place where there's laws with no punishment, if you break the law the punishment is .... nothing. So now we don't need to worry about what's going to happen to us if we break God's law, so do we just sin with impunity? Well no because then we wouldn't be following Him Romans 6:1-2 instead we want to follow and delight God Romans 6:12-14.

In fact there are laws that God doesn't even want us to keep such as Sabbath day and the food laws Acts 10:15 Romans 14:5-6. No we follow laws that we feel are indicative of God's pleasure because we love Him and we want to please Him. IMO I think that you can include tithing in that. Jesus was pretty dismissive about tithing in the account of the widow with 2 coins Mark 12:41-44 and the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector Luke 18:9-14. To me tithing is a bit like God on minimum wage. Give what you want because you want, that's more pleasing to God. Maybe less, maybe more.

So is God upset because I plant sprouts with my cabbages in my garden Leviticus 19:19 or if I have a number 3 all round haircut or a shave Leviticus 19:27 ?

Jesus preached a gospel of freedom -
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord , And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, Isaiah 61:1‭-‬2 NKJV

So to answer your question with a question, is God really calling you to tithe or would He prefer you to give as much as you want because you want?

Curtis: Someone once asked me "how long can a man walk in the Spirit?"
I said, "How long can you keep your mind set on the things of God, that's how long"
By that statement, I presume that you agree with me, that we're in a war and occasionally we meet the roaring Lion, he draws us away from God and we, sometimes, lose a skirmish.
I sometimes wonder if, at times, we lose sight of the heart of the scriptures in favour of the doctrine. Mark 4:12 So that, they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven. I often read scriptures relating to God, Jesus, Paul and others and wonder, if they came to talk Jesus, whether they would, under the standards laid down by some posters, be allowed into heaven. God went against his own law, when, rather than calling for the full force of the law to be levelled at Cain for the murder of his brother, he let him off. He didn't punish Abraham for lying to Pharaoh for calling Sarah his sister and omitting that she was also his wife. He didn't refuse to accept Jacobs claim to birth right, even though it was deceitfully obtained by subterfuge. And he didn't pronounce the death penalty on David when he murdered his faithful servant Uriah to get access to his wife Bathsheba. After all those misdemeanours would the law abiding posters on talk Jesus allow him into heaven. And Jesus, stopping the people stoning the adulteress, the punishment she deserved. And also inviting a thief into heaven when he was a proven unrepentant sinner who was not born again, would he be allowed in? Not forgetting Paul, our apostle, who blatantly confessed to continuous sin crying out his wretchedness, He was not a novice, a new Christian, he was an apostle and he was talking in the present tense. So here we have another unacceptable person, would he be allowed in? Of course, they all would, but Helen and I, who's hearts married the instant we met will not be allowed because we didn't obtain a piece of paper from Satan's world, didn't have a ceremony in a building that eats up all the money that should be feeding the poor and didn't have it presided over by a man in a dog collar who likely didn't believe in Jesus anyway. What I have written, should at least cause us to pause and pray for understanding.

He called me to tithe Andy, but not to a church, to a cash box in our home that there will be the means to meet the needs of whoever he sends to us.

LOL, I Love everyone of you! Well, I guess I have to "suit up"! I am reminded of, one of"God's Mighty Men of Valor", you know all of their names, but who comes to mind is "Benaiah son of Jehoiada", And here comes," "Athanasius" and how could we forget "Polycarp". I got my "Armor" on now" and now I'm ready " to contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints."

Now concerning,, doctrine my brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus our Lord. There are so many that are teaching "The doctrine of men and replacing it as the doctrine of God". The Bible says, plainly that even a child can understand: "The time will come they will not endure "Sound Doctrine"! This is the "spirit of the anti-Christ". Christ is The WORD of GOD" if anyone is anti-Word of God they are "anti-christ". For sound Doctrine is the Word of God! He that that rejects "Sound Bibical Doctrine" is under the spell of "anti-Christ"! Be careful they use tricky words: But I will proclaim this from the top of my very being. There is no such thing as the "heart of the scripture"! Those are the words of a man! You cannot find those words no where in "Holy Scripture"! Neither in a "translation" of a translation of the "Oringnal Copied Text" if you think I am lying "do your homework"! And do not except any man's " eisegesis" explanation concerning the printed text of "The Holy Scripture".

Now for clarity, How could there be such a thing as "the heart of scripture". What is that? Words are very important! And flavor of doctrine. Now let us look at the "English syntax" of what he said:

"we lose sight of the heart of the scriptures in favour of the doctrine. "

The "Holy Scripture" is "Doctrine", it is the "Doctrine of God"! Hello, wake up! "Thou thou that sleepest.

"The Holy Scriptues" is GOD! , "in the beginning was the WORD and The WORD was GOD! And the WORD became flesh and dwell among us. Most do not, even realize the "Holy written Scripture" is "God"! They do not realize this is a true statement. The Bible testifies to this, but the reason is they cannot grasp this, is because they do not know God, whom Jesus reveals to whom ever He chooses! You cannot figure out "GOD" and His character, He is "infinite"! So do not engage your finite mind. It is Revealed thru the very Word of GOD!

It is so simple, but we always "strain at a gnat and swallow a camel", one great "theologian" said, the problem with most Christians, they don't know, who God is. They think to much and give to much credit unto themselves and. God has said"they honor me with their words and mouths" but their hearts and minds are far from me!

Modern day Christians will not, I say will not "bow down, to the very WORD of GOD" they rather bow down to the creation than their Creator! They bow down to "churches, they bow down to pastors, they bow down to their children, they bow down to their friends and they bow down to the evil spirit of "compromise" of "Sound Doctrine". These are born again Christians, And they think there is no penalty for this "Apostasy". I am no God, but I know how to read the Word of God! There is a penalty for compromising the Word of Truth! "Christians"! Either you are in, or you are out! Be Cold or Hot! If you are warm I will spit you out of my mouth! And the Word Cold in this text does not mean dormant of the Truth!

I am not addressing non-Christians, I am addressing real born from above, thumb reading, Bible thumpers, and all gifted of all types of "Tongues" speaking "Christians"! And "The Holy Rollers" too! Get your house in order, and I don't mean the one built by a man's hand. Because, it is later than you think. He is at The Door! " God said: Warn them, warn them from ME! And He is not going to be handing out kindness and HE sure don't have any "Tootsie Roll Pops in His bag! Jesus will be pouring out the wrath of the"Almighty GOD"! For this is the Command of His Father, and believe me, He obeys His Father! "For the Word of God is quick and powerful" And He does not even pause, neither hesitates!! "For Scripture cannot be broken"! Be sure of this, it will come to pass, ". just as sure as God has made little Green apples"! Thank you Jesus! For letting me take one for the team.

I assume Trevor is speaking of this...

Matt 22: 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

I am puzzle, to what you are trying to say. Now we Know Jesus was under The Law, and he had to obey everything that was written. He had to fulfill it. That means he obey it. He is the only man that obeyed the whole law! The New Covenant had not come into power yet. Jesus. Live under the old covenant! Under the New Covenant, the Old was abolish. Maybe I am missing what you are trying to say.

So what are you saying Brad? That a little child may understand. What are you calling me a Pharisees a devil or what, a false prophet a deceiver of men. Because that last reply you are putting me in the class of the Pharisees, Jesus told them their Father was the Devil, John Baptist called them a den of vipers! Do not not speak in Riddles. Speak plainly! Call me sir stand up like a Child of God and speak the truth! Be bold! Hot or cold! It is time for weak Christians, to stand up! Jesus even refereed to a woman as a Dog! Festus even called Paul mad! Come on take one for the team!

Brad, don't be mad, I understand where you are coming from. If I have become your enemy, notice I said if. And you do know, " we are suppose to love our enemies". Then, if you think I am your brother in Christ, I mean no harm". Now are you "exercising "the fruit of the Spirit"? Or the flesh? I will answer concerning myself. In that capacity, I am all over the board. "when I Desire to do good evil is all around me".
