Don’t Look Back

‘His wife looked back behind him and she became a pillar of salt.’ Genesis 19:26 NKJV

Before destroying Sodom and Gomorrah, angels of the Lord rescued Lot and his family from the city. Then they said: ‘Run for your lives! Don’t look behind you, and don’t stop on the plain. Run for the hills, or you’ll be swept away.’ (Genesis 19:17 GWT)

But the record reads: ‘His wife looked back behind him and she became a pillar of salt.’

There’s an important lesson here for each of us: resist the temptation to linger in the quicksand of past mistakes—either your own or other people’s. It can be hard to see ahead when horrendous things have happened to you in the past. But when you get bogged down in the past, you miss what God has for you in the present, and fail to see its connection to your future. The good news is that it’s not too late to allow God to use you and move you forward on your journey. He can heal the wounds others have inflicted on you. He can make you wiser as a result of the poor decisions you made in the past.

It’s not too late to become who you might have been. God delights in transforming our weakness into strength. He can create treasure from what you’ve discarded as rubbish. Even if you’ve backslidden and detoured from the path you know He wants you to follow, now is the time to return to His road.

‘“I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”’ (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT) So move forward—and don’t look back.

Well said!... We should only look back in Thanksgiving to God when we see how far God has brought us from where we were. Philippians 3:13-14 tells us to forget what's behind and focus on what is ahead.

i understand the thought and kinda agree. But i think the wrong "Scriptures are applied" The reason she looked back because she lone for the lifestyle of "Sodom and Gomorrah" she loved it there. and dreaded the plains, for they were rich in cattle and herds and servants, they left all. So she loath to leave. similar to Israel fleet out of Egypt .

and the quote: " I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”’ (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT)" GOD told them to surrender to the King of BABYLON and go into exile from Jerusalem. and be under the Headship of a pagan King. King Nebuchadnezzar. But the Prophets of Israel said no, do not bow and God will deliver us. But Jeremiah said: GOD is handing us over into the pagan Kings hands, and israel beat Jeremiah and cast him into pit. For God has turn us over into the hands of our enemies. And there after years will bless us. That is what (Jeremiah 29:11). means. For many of preacher has taken it out of complete context. surrender it means unto pagan KING and obey him. and then I will bless you.:pensive: sorry not being mean. it has been abused by others, by not knowing what it really means. Taken completely out of context.

God will bless you in exile under captivity, in hardship and pain and tears. from there i will deliver you. the meaning of (Jeremiah 29:11). and after 70 years then i will come for you. please read the whole chapter. your brother in Christ.

I tried understanding your first comment. But I have to point out few things: First, 'A look back is a look back' whether good or bad. In athletics, you can't win by running backwards nor looking backwards Philippians 3:13.
Second, The word in Jeremiah 29:11 need no further explanation. Simply put 'God's original plan for every believer is good' this can be related to 3rd John 2. But often we struggle through life when we always interested in our plans and not HIS plans for us.

Remember i said: i understand the thought and kinda agree. But i think the wrong "Scriptures are applied" The scriptures references is out of context. Thats all, and we know that a "little leaven, leavens the whole loaf" no matter how good our intentions are.
