Is a Christian simply a disciple of Jesus?

No, a Christian is not a disciple as those at the time of Jesus were.

A Christian is referred to as a child of God 1 John 3:2 and as the bride of Christ 2 Cor 11:2. No disciple was called this.

Judas never entered eternal life. Nobody prior to the death of Jesus could / did. Jesus had to die before mankind could be reconciled with God. The wages if sin is death and Jesus had not yet paid the price for our salvation.

God could graft nobody into heaven / eternal life until Jesus was raised from the dead.

A Christian who is grafted into the vine of God's family tree is truly something special. To be grafted in one has to pass God's judgement of heart and mind Jer 17:9-11 when we sincerely repent Psalm 51:17.

It is not simply a case of ''being called for a purpose''. God used Pharaoh, the devil and many wicked for His purposes. Granted, Jesus chose the disciples and certainly had high hopes for them all. But they were not judged and chosen as Christians are.

The only disciple of the original twelve that stands out is Peter. He received a revelation of Jesus much like a Christian does in Matt 16:16-17. This shows that Jesus / God trusted Peter more then the other disciples. Peter, like David, Abraham and Elijah were judged by God and entrusted with revelations and truths that many others were simply not. Much like a Christian is. There is no divide between a Christian and God. God can pour as many revelations, visions, dreams and truths into the mind of a Christian as He wishes. This is why scripture clearly states Christians will reign with Jesus.

Jesus never said '''reign with me'' to the disciples. He does say this to Christians.

Well wondering, what does a person do on a “Throne” what does it “Signify”?
(Matthew 19).
27Then answered Peter and said unto him, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee; what then shall we have? 28And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, that ye who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit on the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

here is a good one. 12 thrones, what 12 disciples was he referring to. We know“Judas” wasn’t one because didn’t follow him into the “Regeneration”. My Guess “Paul”!
And Jesus never used the term, “Christians”. And we have “ Apostle John” the young whom “Jesus Love” who receive “The Revelation of Jesus Christ” and also wrote the Gospel according to John. And John 1, 2, 3.

(Matthew 10).
26“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. 27And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

You might want to look at Acts 11:26 - 27 "And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. " And in these days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch."

Christians are Christ-ones = Christ followers. = disciples.

Who gave them that name and why, did they give them that name? The pagans at “Antioch” gave them that name. It was a “derogatory” name for those who followed Jesus”. Who they term Him as a “Atheist” , a cannibal” a group that committed incest. Meaning they drunk blood, ate flesh, and slept with their brothers and sisters. And had meetings in secret that no one could join or become a member. [jesus said; eat my flesh and drink my blood]. [they called one another brothers and sisters]. Get it That is what it meant to be “Christ-like” a follower of Christ. That is why they called them “Christians” 1st at “Antioch”. The definition for that word has change so many times in history it has become a crime. It’s true definition has been hidden so deep now to make everything about Christianity is pretty and lovely, even the cross or tree He was crucified on. The word “ Christian” is only mention in the New Testament only 3 times out of the whole book and two of those times “A pagan use it” the one who coined it and “King Agrippa”. Just sharing real history that is becoming dust. No biggie.

@PloughBoy -- although it Did start out as the group making fun of the believers -- it was meant to be derogatory -- but - as a person can see from the context of that chapter -- it became a Good thing.

Please take a moment to read the entire chapter 11 -- salvation was being extended to the Gentiles because the Jewish segment of society didn't accept Jesus Christ as their promised Messiah. The Jews had been / still are / God's chosen people. The Gentiles were not considered to be worthy.

vs 22 "Then news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch.
vs 23 When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord.
vs 24 For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.

If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

I think “Polycarp” died in 155 CE for being a “Christian” and the word “Christian” was not coined until about 46 CE, and Jesus died about 37 CE there was no such word as “Christian” until about 10 years after His death and resurrection. And “PolyCarp” died for being a “Christian” around 155 CE. That is 109 years after the word “Christian” was created and Christian meant they were “Atheist”! Known fact.

The early church was hated by the society and government of the Roman Empire for various reasons, such as the refusal of Christians to sacrifice to the gods. The Empire went through many phases of demanding that the Christians sacrifice — which meant denying their faith — or be killed. The earliest attacks claimed the lives of many of the apostles.
This text is the story, from around 160 AD, of the martyrdom of Polycarp, the Bishop of the church in Smyrna, a city in Asia Minor

Notice: The Church in “Smyrna”. One of the 7 churches in Asia Minor: Revelation. Enjoy!
Look up Polycarp. Deeply. I have read his personal Biography. His boldness in the throws of death! Search and look at some of his famous “Quotes”. He was a disciple of Apostle John. The word Christian has live in a state of “evolving” into branches of all kinds.

You Do believe in God's inspired Word, correct?!

So -- however your time-line fits with Acts 11: 26 -- God's Word says what it says.

Christians have Always suffered persecution -- A Christian being a person living a Christ-like life. Christians are being killed / martyred Now in various countries.

Christianity has never been popular. But eternity is very real and waiting for Everyone.

I just referring. To the term or word Christian that’s all. What did all of the Apostles call follows of Jesus. Not Peter, he always was causing a little trouble.
