Was this the only time the meaning of God's Word was Hid?

What happen to the apostles? Why was the Word hidden from them?

God can and will close minds according to His will and pleasure.

Funny! I received this in a totally different way. I saw it as meaning that the scriptures that spoke of these events had never been revealed to them (by their previous or the average Jewish teacher at that time).. They had never heard of a Messiah (or the Messiah) as having to be cut off from the land of the living (killed). And presently believing He was the Messiah, they thought at any minute the judgment would come and He would be lifted up, recognized, etc., and the enemies of God's people would be thwarted.

Jesus had just told them these words so the words were not hidden from them so the question is for me, did they believe them or figure (based on traditional beliefs) that they must mean something other...this revelation then was what was hid from them (at least until that point).

31 Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

32 For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:

33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
