The Gospel

Romans 1:1-16 (NKJV)

1 Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God
2 which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures,
3 concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,
4 and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.
5 Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for His name,
6 among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ;
7 To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.
9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers,
10 making request if, by some means, now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you.
11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established--
12 that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
13 Now I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that I often planned to come to you (but was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among the other Gentiles.
14 I am a debtor both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise and to unwise.
15 So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also.
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

The gospel is not the mere historical fact that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died at Calvary 2,000 years ago, was buried in the tomb of Joseph and rose again the third day. James tells us that the devils believe that and tremble.

The gospel is the plain and biblical declaration of how Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures

1 Corinthians 15:3 (NKJV)
3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

How did Christ die?

What did Christ accomplish in his death?

What do the scriptures teach us about the death of our Lord Jesus Christ?

First, the Lord Jesus Christ voluntarily laid down his life for us:

‘I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep’ John 10:11
‘I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself’. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again’ John 10:17-18

Our Lord did not die as the helpless victim of circumstances.

He was born at Bethlehem for the express purpose of laying down his life at Calvary in the place of his people.

Secondly, the Son of God died vicariously in the place of people.
That is to say, he died as a real Substitute in the place of God’s elect:
‘He hath made him to be sin for us,...that we might be made the righteousness of God in him’ 2 Corinthians 5:21
‘For the transgression of my people was he stricken’ Isaiah 53:8

Christ did not die for every person in the world, hoping to save everybody. The Bible nowhere says that he did.
Christ died for every sinner in the world who believes on him and his death secured their faith in him.
He died as a Substitute for God’s elect.

Thirdly, the Lord Jesus Christ died victoriously, accomplishing the redemption of his people.
He did not try to redeem; he did redeem.
He did not make it possible for all men to be redeemed; he actually ‘obtained eternal redemption for us’ Hebrews 9:12
He did not make it possible for sin to be put away; he ‘put away sin by the sacrifice of himself’ Hebrews 9:26

When he cried, ‘It is finished’ redemption’s work was done.

All the people of God were justified and pardoned by his victorious death.

His atoning sacrifice was a real atonement for sin.

Grace for Today: Daily Devotional Readings.

Prayer: Lord we thank you, you voluntarily laid down his life for us, you died vicariously in the place of people, you died victoriously accomplishing the redemption of the people. We are eternally grateful. In Jesus Name we Thank You and Praise You. Amen

Hi Paul, consider these scriptures,

FOR THIS IS GOOD AND ACCEPTABLE IN THE SIGHT OF GOD OUR SAVIOUR;
WHO WILL HAVE ALL MEN TO BE SAVED AND COME INTO THE KNOWLEDGE
OF THE TRUTH(1 Tim. 2:4)

But doesn't the church teach that God is the Saviour of believers ONLY. not according
to these scriptures.

FOR THEREFORE WE BOTH LABOUR AND SUFFER REPROACH BECAUSE
WE TRUST IN THE LIVING GOD, WHO IS THE SAVIOUR OF ALL MEN
SPECIALLY OF THOSE THAT BELIEVE. (Tim. 4:10).

But does that mean believers exclusively? NO. ALL MEN.
I believe that these scriptures are clear, people I'm sure will try to use their
own thoughts on these scriptures and possibly try to disprove them, but no
matter how they try you cannot change these words of TRUTH.

With Love, Wnl

Greetings @Wnl

Yes my friend, it is God's will that none should be lost.

1 Timothy 2:3-4 (NKJV)
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

1 Timothy 2:2-4 (NLT2)
2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity.
3 This is good and pleases God our Savior,
4 who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.

1 Timothy 2:3-4 (NJB)
3 To do this is right, and acceptable to God our Saviour:
4 he wants everyone to be saved and reach full knowledge of the truth.

1 Timothy 2:3-4 (NIV2011)
3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Note: wants, wants, wants, or desires. Not will have.

1 Timothy 4:9-10 (NKJV)
9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance.
10 For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.

God desires all men to be saved, but He knows all men will not be saved. We as believers, saved souls, are to...

1 Timothy 4:11-16
11 These things command and teach.
12 Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13 Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.
15 Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.
16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

John 3:16-21 (NKJV)
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

18 He who believes in Him is not condemned;
but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."

God does not want any to be lost, For God so Loved the world (ALL people).

But he who does not believe is condemned already...

I totally agree my friend, we must never change The Word, The Word is Truth. Sometimes translations can distort The Truth, that is why I always look at numerous translations or go back to Strong's Dictionary of OT/NT Words.

Blessings

1 Timothy 2:3-4 (NKJV)
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Another verse that is similar...

2 Pet 3:9; The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.

Hi Paul, I thought you might find this scripture interesting
As you have pointed out the different interpretations.
I only use the Kjv.
The question is which one do you believe ?
I believe that the Kjv is correct and the others are watered down

These different versions I believe cause problems for the believers.
Why is there different versions? Because the interpreters disagree.
I suppose it's for each believer to personality believe what they
believe to be true, but these versions can possibly cause discourse
between believers.(not me) what do you think Paul.

Greetings brother,

I always use the NKJV and KJV first, then I usually refer to NIV, NJB, CJB and others. I agree the KJV is best, the NIV is easy read but there are errors in it.

There are a number of reasons there are many translations, the main one being that the English language doesn't satisfactorily agree with the original Greek and Hebrew.

But taking all the translations they all fall into one of two categories, either they Expound The Word, which usually keep to original money and dimensions, or they are fluffed up to make them sound like the way we talk today, and of course the country we live. An African Bible translation could be very different to a Far East one, or a western one. Talking of one animal in one part of the world may not make sense in another so they change them to things known in there country. How much are two sparrows, what are sparrows for example. I tend to keep away from these for the reasons stated and they can be a bit misleading. Good News and The Message Bibles slot into this category, I have them but rarely read them.

I guess the second category may fit for many babes in The Word, but I always believe it is best to start off right. We can soon search the Internet for measurements and currency conversions, or even ask Alexa so why compromise is my view. But we are all different, all at different stages in our walk with the Lord.

Bless you.
