What are good works that can be done at any time?

Member
I was just wondering what are a list of good works that can be performed. I would like a nice 10 thing list to start that I wont waste all my free time thinking about pleasing myself.
What can i do right now that I could just do good things and is there a set standard on how big the work has to be to be considered a work.
What are things that lets say dont even require sign up nust go do it and bam its done.
(Not that any work can earn me anything I just want to use the love God has put in my heart as motivation for doing good things.

There is only one work you are "required" to do every day.

Joh 6:27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.”
Joh 6:28 Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?”
Joh 6:29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”

All other "work(s) come as a result of this one "work" only!

I agree with that absolutely 100%...
But I was wondering more along lines of just doing somethings to be a blessing..like what could Gods purpose be for me daily ?

If you believe everything the Lord says to you through his word, then he will lead and guide you in what he wants you to do. Sometimes his will is for you to just read his word, and seek his righteousness!
The Lord knows and understands your heart to want to do things for him, but his desire is for himself to use, and work through you for his glory!

Php 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Php 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Notice: it is God himself that is giving you the will to want to be used, and it is God who will do his work through you according to his good pleasure!
This is all about being "lead" by the Holy Spirit. (who is God)

Yes, so should I consider my personal willing work for the Lord at this time reading his word and loving my neighbor as myself?

Yes, I think one of the biggest mistakes that most younger believers make is deciding to go out and do things for the Lord based on their own feelings and not on what the Lord is telling them to do.
There will be a time in which the Lord brings us to a place after he has taught us certain things so we will know how he works through the Holy Spirit in guiding us. Jesus did not start his ministry until he was around thirty years old.
Paul the Apostle waited around thirteen years before he started his calling, and in the meantime, he was constantly giving his testimony on how the Lord saved him. Training (John 6:45) is of utmost importance before we can be used as an instrument of righteousness in the hands of a Holy God.

One thing we should keep in mind when doing good works is what Paul tells us in Corinthians, very important, I am like you Frank I want a check list to mark off but it does not work that way as Brother @Curtis pointed out.

1 Corinthians 13
and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and exult in the surrender of my body, but have not love, I gain nothing. 4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.…

Everything @Curtis has said comes first brother.

Scripture tells us a lot about caring for widows and orphans maybe this is a help for you

Hebrews 13:1-21 (NKJV)
1 Let brotherly love continue.
2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.
3 Remember the prisoners as if chained with them--those who are mistreated--since you yourselves are in the body also.
4 Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."
6 So we may boldly say: "The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?"
7 Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
9 Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.
10 We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat.
11 For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp.
12 Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate.
13 Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach.
14 For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come.
15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
16 But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
17 Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.
18 Pray for us; for we are confident that we have a good conscience, in all things desiring to live honorably.
19 But I especially urge you to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner.
20 Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
21 make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Bless you

Well I agree with that for the most part but I just think Jesus waited till he was 30 because a priest in the OT couldn't be priest until he is 30 years old. And he is our High priest.
I personally think Jesus has infinite wisdom. But you did teach me the very importance of keeping scripture study regular.

So how do I trial myself to see if these are in me because I want to stay awake.

Hello Brother @Paul thank you very much it does mean a lot, and bless you as well!
I just was wondering about verse 4...
Who;s it talking about? Only married people right? And what exactly is a adulterer because this is my current understanding..
Lets say there is 10 people...
5 of those choose Jesus's words and the testimony of him, and the other 5 do not...
The 5 that choose Jesus and hear his word and accept it... Aren't they made clean by the word he that came from heaven has spoken, and are made clean as vessels to the Most High right?
And the conviction of a person of sinfulness is the sign of the Holy Spirit.. Correct me if i'm wrong..
So by receiving Jesus is taking off our stained dirty clothes and putting on His Holiness?
And as a result true believers- that receive the word of God gladly are convicted by the Holy spirit and they are not trapped in their proud lives of sin and and by the freedom they move away from the ...neighborhood of sin...
So they, we aren't judged as a one who is worldly unless we like it said did something like defile the marriage bed?

And also how do I know if I believe 1 or more strange doctrine?

An adulterer is a married person who has a sexual relationship with someone other than their spouse. And too close a relationship with another person other than spouse isn't wise. And a person knows when a line is being crossed.

Fornication is an old-fashioned term that means having sex Without being married. 'People' tend to ignore it cause 'everybody' is supposedly 'doing it' these days. Dating someone who 'you' have good chemistry with -- well - they Should plan ahead what they're going to be doing while together. Find a mall to go window shopping at. The natural instinct is to want to be alone. But couples who Are thinking of marriage Need to be alone Sometimes -- maybe just to practice 'self-control'.

Well - the 5 who choose Jesus -- hear His words and accept -- they are actually saved by actually talking to God and accepting Him as their Savior. And thanking Him For His salvation. Belief in their heart and confessing to God.

Yes, conviction of sin in your life is from the Holy Spirit and it needs to be acknowledged and asked for forgiveness of.

Committing adultery isn't the only sin a married person might commit. When a believer does something that goes against God's Word , the Holy Spirit Will convict that person. And the person needs to get things right with God. Determine to not do that particular thing again.

The more a person reads God's Word the more that person will be aware Of 'strange doctrines'. The most important is that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. His virgin birth, His death, burial and bodily resurrection. Reading the Prison Epistles // Galations, Ephesians, Philippians , Colossians is a good place to read. The Gospel of John.

Take time every day to read. Ask the Holy Spirit for understanding.

The body of the born-again believer is the temple of the Holy Spirit because He's indwelling us.

Greetings brother Frank, may I call you brother Frank?

It is wonderful how the body of Christ works together for good and to bring Glory to God through Jesus. Whilst one part of the world sleeps another is there to answer questions, and help the brethren. Thank you to our dear sister Sue for replying to your post regarding, adultery, marriage and sexual relationships in Post #11 above.

When we accept Jesus into our heart, it is because we have come to Him at the cross and the penny has dropped so to speak of everything He has done for us and everything He went through for us. We realise the value of His Love, we realise the reason His Blood was shed, had to be shed for the forgiveness of sins, your sins, my sins, the sins of the whole world. We are at that point truly sorry for our sins and Repent, or shall I say REPENT of all our sins.

When we are born again, we become a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come, we are born of spirit and water. We are baptised into death, we raise up to new life in Christ, with Christ within. The spirit of Christ lives in us, something it could never do when our bodies were full of sin. Jesus is the Temple of the Living God, He abides in our heart, we are to abide in Him. John 15.

1 Corinthians 6:17-20 (NKJV)
17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

Stepping back a little to the discussion on sexual sin, remaining with 1 Corinthians 6.

1 Corinthians 6:12-18 (NKJV)
12 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
13 Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
14 And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power.
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!
16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For "the two," He says, "shall become one flesh."
17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.

An adulterer is a married person who has a sexual relationship with someone other than their spouse. And too close a relationship with another person other than spouse isn't wise. And a person knows when a line is being crossed.

Thank you Sue.

There has almost always been sexual sin, in our Lord's time on earth He said many times it was 'a wicked and adulterous generation'. Over time it was supressed to a degree by doing it behind closed doors, but it happened and continues to happen, only much more in these latter days of the end times. The explosion of sex started in the 1960's and has increased from then on, free speech, free sex, the pill and other methods all aided to sexual sin. Films and media took there part as the devil used them to push and promote sexual sin, the digital age and the internet allowed sexual sin of all kinds to fester, all this and more making it appear the devil has domain, appear being the key word.

For every believer who is washed in the blood of Christ, who is born again, the 'old' has gone, the new has come, we become new creations, Praise the Lord, Christ in us, us in Christ, abide in me He tells us.

As for sexual immorality, any form of sexual sin, the first three words of 1 Cor 6:18 tells us everything we need to know on the subject [I feel]

May the good Lord, continue to Bless yuo, Guide you and protect you in all you do in His Name.

Jesus is Lord, to the Glory of God our Father, in Jesus Precious Name we pray and give thanks. Amen.
