If YOU have MONEY

motivation is also of vital importance

exactly thats why so many get fooled by the prosperity Gospel, they preach Give to get, getting is a bi-product of giving, but if your giving to get you motivation (heart) is in the wrong place.

Solomon is a great example in the bible, he is the wisest person who ever lived and he could not handle his wealth he fell away from God.

Said having everything his heart desired he was still empty with out God.
Like I said in a previous post, "Money is not a sign that a person is godly, neither is money a sign that a person is NOT godly"

Solomon fell by turning his heart away from God. Godly Wisdom must be acted on, knowing it is no guaranteed of success unless you do it, then it is guaranteed to work.

In the New Testement, there is a warning to rich people.

1Ti 6:17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
1Ti 6:18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, (ESV)

I agree 100% but I will add godliness is contentment

1 Timothy 6:6
Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment,

1 Timothy 6:8
But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.

Notice it says those who desire to be rich fall into temptation,
1 Timothy 6:9
But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

yet some will be rich in this life and nothing is wrong with it at all as long as we follow what the word tells us
1 Timothy 6:17-19
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

I see so many false teaching on money out there it bothers me, most teach "give to get", that is wrong motive it creates the wrong type of heart, some teach you have to get rich so you can be generous, and that is wrong because generosity starts from the heart not the pocket book, one of the biggest snares satan uses against us is money, we have to be masters of money and not let money be masters of us.

One might think that it was a by product of wealth that did Solomon in, but it was his wives and their worship!!!!!!! :( Maybe if he didn't have the wealth they won't have wanted to have anything to do with him, but then he'd not be Solomon that we read about.
On the wives. Best to just stick with one, and that one a Godly one!!!

Great Point brother NIck

, perhaps we should look even closer as to what Solomon actually had to say about having anything his heart desired? being the wisest person who ever lived he should have some good points on wealth I would imagine

Solomon had a lot to say about wealth and riches.

Pro 10:22 The blessing of the LORD makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.

Pro 15:6 In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, but trouble befalls the income of the wicked.

Pro 16:8 Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues with injustice.

Ecc 5:10 Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness!
Ecc 5:11 The more you have, the more people come to help you spend it. So what good is wealthexcept perhaps to watch it slip through your fingers!

Pro 11:24 Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.
Pro 11:25 The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.

Pro 10:4 A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

It is what comes from the heart.

The widow in the example gave 20% the rich guy gave 10%
It is what comes from the heart.

It sure is,...... but i think that Christ was making that point not in the percentage anyone gave, but in their financial state after they'd given,,,, "for the poor widow gave out of her Poverty....... and the rich man out of his riches".

Totally agree brother.

The post was an example, the rich think they give a lot (some may) but it could be a small amount from what they have.

The percentage in the example is just to show how much the widow gave of what she had compared to the rich person.

Bless you

We all need money, to little is hard for many, but they may still have holidays, and other items we can say ate ready luxuries.

We can also have to much and end up in debt as we are unable to handle it. Or we can have to much and want more, money makes money they say. it then becomes there God.

Jesus says when we pray say, Our Father....

give us 'this day's our ,daily, bread. enough for 24 hours.

What is our daily bread, just enough, food, drink, clothing, roof over our heads, heating, just enough for 24 hours, then pray again tomorrow .

He wants us to have enough, never to little, but also not to much.

Sorry not enough time to go further, today has not been a good day, tomorrow I am going fishing with the Lord, relaxation for my body, mind and spirit. My body needs it to help release tensions internally.

Probably Friday before I get back here, sorry.

Bless you brother

True Brother Paul, ..... the question though is "how much is enough",... for in a world of finite resources, one mans riches is another mans poverty, the more anyone takes over and above their fair share is paid for in the poverty and suffering of those that are accorded less,....... and with 6 million children dying from Hunger and disease every year because of that poverty, those of us that have taken more than our fair share have played a part in causing those deaths, ....... this is why i believe Christ condemned the Rich, for how can you claim to Love your Neighbour as yourself when you have the means to alleviate their suffering but choose not to in order to satisfy your own selfish desires,... "Woe to you who are rich for you have received your consolation" Luke 6 vs 24 should be a warning to all of us who, living in the Rich countries of Gods world, lead lives of wealth and comfort the poor and hungry can only dream about,...... but conversely perhaps their hope and their salvation lies with Christ when he said in Luke 6 vs 20" Blessed are ye poor, for yours is the Kingdom of Heaven".

No where in scripture is it said that it is a "blessing" to be poor! In fact poverty falls under the "curse of the law" for not following God's laws! (Deut 28:15-68)
"Jesus has redeemed us from the "curse of the law....."(Gal 3:13)

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for your is the Kingdom of God"(Matt 5:3)

The "blessing" is NOT in being poor, but that the Kingdom of God can be yours.

did you not read what Christ said in Luke 6 vs 20, "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. "........or what happened to Lazarus in the Parable of Lazarus and the Rich Man in Luke 16 vs 19-31, they both died and Lazarus the Beggar went straight to Heaven and the rich man straight to hell, in vs 25 Abraham explains to the Rich man why hes in Hell and Lazarus in Heaven, “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.",....... or what Christ said to the Rich Man in Mark 10 vs 21 " Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” , by giving ALL his riches to the poor he will store up treasure in heaven, sounds pretty much like a "blessing" to me,...... i think you really need to read and understand Christs condemnation of the Rich and his Blessing of the poor, for its one of his most frequent themes,..... for sure its an uncomfortable message, but then much of Christs teachings are, they go against our Sinful nature, they challenge the prevailing order of this World and force us to question all that we hold dear, but then surely thats just what Christ meant when he said that in order to follow him we must take up our Cross and lead a life of Radical Love and Sacrifice, and the possession of Riches is a barrier to God and Salvation that will be almost impossible for us to cross.

Dear Brother,
You should really give this some greater thought. (Highlight mine).

P.S. We've have previously dealt on Talk Jesus with those who believe the evil of all currency, but gold is okay. As well as those who believe that any possessions at all, are also wrong which of course included money. All I suggest is to keep context, of not just a few verses, but of the entirety of Scripture in mind when discussing this subject matter.

seems to be 3 mindsets when it comes to riches

1. The greedy mindset, more and more never enough
2. The poor mindset, no one should have wealth at all and associate guilt with wealth
3. Gratitude mindset, see it as a blessing from God, and wants to share it.

Hi Nick, many thanks for your reply, i totally agree, i obviously didn't make myself clear enough, the point i was trying to make with saying its "almost impossible to cross that barrier" is that, as Christ says later in the narrative" with God ,everything is possible", i would never pronounce on whether anyone is saved or condemned, for the way i see it that is Gods prerogative alone, we are all in need of his GRACE, but it seems to me that given Christs pronouncements on those that possess Riches the Barrier to salvation will be almost impossible to cross, but not impossible, for with God ,EVERYTHING is possible. i hope i've made myself clearer this time my friend,....... as for your second point, again i'm in complete agreement, i have tried to give examples of Christs words and teaching which i believe follows a consistent pattern, but if you feel i've taken anything out of context i would be interested to know just what that is.

Hi Dave, don't reckon i fall into any of these mindsets, i would like to see a World where theres no Rich or poor and where everyone has enough to satisfy their needs, i know it ain't gonna come in this World, but i still keep working for it anyway and Live in hope and Faith for a better World to come....... just a comment on point 3, i find it hard to see Riches as a blessing from God, Riches in this World are the product of an Evil and Unjust Financial and political system that puts the resources of the many into the pockets of the few, it results in so much Pain, suffering and Death, Wars ,Famines and Disease and in the Destruction of the very earth itself that in my opinion its far more of a Curse than a Blessing, and any good they can do is far outweighed by the Harm thats already been done.

Sounds like a communist country almost to me that you are describing. Let me ask you this do you think we are all going to be equall in heaven with the same amount of treasures or rewards???

i find it hard to see Riches as a blessing from God, Riches in this World are the product of an Evil and Unjust Financial and political system

Although I see some truth in your statement I find it to be lop sided and not accurate entirely,

2 Corinthians 9:6
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
