Lacawar -- very good question -- cause ya don't in answer to your main question. The RCC church has Good Friday -- the rest of us don't.
My late husband figured that crucifixion probably took place sometime Thursday. That makes most sense. And , yes, Matthew passage three days and three nights.
'we' simply need to acknowledge that Jesus Christ was/ is the Son of God who took our sins on the cross with Him , died was buried and rose again on the 3rd day.
And there Is something about -- in Scripture that any part Of a day or night constitutes being a day or night.
And maybe that's more to do with the days of creation. The evening and morning constituting one day.
1 Corinthians 15: 1-4 "...the Gospel I preached to you.....by this Gospel you are saved.....for what I received I passed on to you....... that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures ."
As for the eggs and bunny? I'm thinking they are traditions that have come from people coming to this country from other countries and are 'fun' things for kids to do.
The eggs represent the new life developing inside -- has been known to try to explain the trinity. The Godhead makes our salvation possible as does the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The Godhead = outer shell of the egg. The inside membrane, the clear liquid and that which becomes the yellow part when its' cooked. Anyway -- those three inner parts are necessary to form a future chicken.= God the Father, Jesus Christ His Son, and the Holy Spirit. All distinctly different and with their own jobs -- yet working together to create our salvation.
And when the egg would Hatch -- there's a new life emerging. Upon our salvation , a person becomes a 'new' creation in Christ.
The bunny certainly does Not create the eggs. I guess it's a symbol of fertility? Bunnies / rabbits Are fairly fertile. And they Are fun to watch.
Seems to be one of those things --if a tradition doesn't take the place of the importance of the event being celebrated -- then there's nothing really wrong with it.
There Are some churches that Don't do the egg and bunny 'thing'. Resurrection Sunday is to celebrate exactly That. The bodily resurrection Of Jesus Christ.

and yes, on the 7th day God rested and we are to do the same thing. After a week of work-- everyone Does need to take a day of rest. And we Should be keeping it 'holy' / set apart.

The Leviticus passage -- yes, for the Children of Israel. And the tribe of Judah were / have been the Jews.
So -- you're saying that even now -- just the Jews are to continue keeping the Sabbath? or that Everyone is supposed to.

It is as simple as this. Mark shows us that Jesus was buried on the evening just before the Sabbath. He spent the following day which was the Sabbath in the tomb and on the day after the Sabbath which was the first day of the week - Sunday, the women come to anoint the body but he is already gone. Why is the next day after this Sabbath called the first day of the week if this Sabbath was not the weekly Sabbath? You cannot say that the high Sabbath that year was on Thursday. The fact is, there is no way on earth anyone could possibly prove that. I do not care how one may try to manipulate the days or how one may attempt to separate the Sabbath from the high Sabbath, there is simply no way one can get 72 hours in to Mark's account of Jesus death. According to the eastern custom of counting days, one might get three days out of this but there is now way one can get three nights out of it.

One needs to look on the Hebrew calendar for that time...They will find that there were in fact TWO shabbats that week....We look at Sunday as the sabbath but the sabbath often was on different days. So, how do you calculate the days using he wrong calendar, and the wrong information?

Referring back to Post #12 -- after Christ was crucified and before His bodily resurrection -- He Did go to Hades to minister to those suffering there to share the Gospel with them -- His death for them and then took whomever chose to accept Him and those in the Paradise side back up with Him when He resurrected. So, Jesus Christ did literally go to hell In our place and came back for us. His bodily resurrection. And that is why believers who die since then, are immediately with Christ in glory. Now - as to what happened to the saints who He raised -- while He was still on earth Before His ascension back up to heaven, I really don't know. Never thought of that until now. It Does say that graves opened up and saints were seen walking on the streets. Maybe they stayed until they died a second time? And then were with Jesus Christ in glory when He ascended back up? A Lot of historical events took place that day.
