It is not always God’s will to heal a person physically. A person may sincerely pray and truly have faith that God can heal, but if it is not God’s will to provide the healing at that time, then no healing will come (see 1 John 5:14). Sometimes God’s blessings come in other ways besides physical healing.

If it were always God’s will for people to be healed, then everyone would be healed every time he or she became ill. If good health were always God’s will, then Christians should never die. We can’t blame someone’s malady on a lack of faith, for we know, biblically, that God sometimes uses illness to accomplish His will. Also, it’s not just wayward believers who get sick. Paul “left Trophimus sick in Miletus” (2 Timothy 4:20), and Paul himself had a physical ailment that the Lord declined to heal (2 Corinthians 12:7–9).

Often, Christians have an over-simplified idea of healing. They think that, if they are sick, they have only to ask God to heal them and, because God loves them, He will heal them straightaway. Healing is seen as proof of a person’s faith and of God’s love. This idea persists in some circles in spite of the truth that every mother knows: a parent does not give her child everything he asks for every time, no matter how much she loves him.

Joni Eareckson Tada struggled with this issue for a long time. As she recounts in her book Joni, she sought physical healing of her quadriplegia. She prayed and fully believed that God would heal her. In her words, “I certainly believed. I was calling up my girlfriends saying, ‘Next time you see me I’m going to be running up your sidewalk. God’s going to heal me’” (quoted in an interview with Marvin Olasky, www.worldmag.com/2013/01/joni_eareckson_tada_on_faith_healing_and_marriage, January 17, 2013). Yet Joni is still in a wheelchair today. Forty-five years after the accident that left her paralyzed, God has still not healed her. Her perspective is one of great faith: “God may remove your suffering, and that will be great cause for praise. But if not, He will use it, He will use anything and everything that stands in the way of His fellowship with you. So let God mold you and make you, transform you from glory to glory. That’s the deeper healing” (quoted on www.gty.org/resources/sermons/TM13-2/a-deeper-healing-joni-eareckson-tada, October 16, 2013). Some feel that God will never heal anyone miraculously today. Others feel that God will always heal a person if he or she has enough faith. But God will not be put into either box.

We need to understand that healings, even in the Bible, are very rare indeed. For the first 2,500 years of biblical history, there is no mention of any healings whatsoever. Then during the life of Abraham we have a possible healing, although it is only implied (Genesis 12:17–20). Then we have to wait until the life of Moses, who performs a number of signs to authenticate his authority as God’s leader. However, the only healing associated with Moses is Miriam’s cleansing from leprosy (Numbers 12:13–15).

In the covenant God gave to Israel, there were a number of provisions to regulate their lives, and there is an emphasis on physicality and material things in the Old Testament. In Deuteronomy 28, God promises to reward Israel’s faithfulness with freedom from disease. This is the clue to the meaning of miracles in the Bible. God promised Israel health, long life, children, flocks, corn, grapes, etc.—and victory over their enemies—if they stayed faithful to the Lord. At the same time, God threatened them with sickness, barrenness, disease, drought, famine, the loss of livestock, and enemy occupation if they forsook the Lord. This is the context of Israel’s relationship with sickness and healing. The promise to be kept “free from every disease” in Deuteronomy 7:15 was specifically part of the Mosaic Covenant with Israel under the theocracy; such a promise is not given to the church.

With the coming of Christ, we have the fulfillment of the Mosaic Covenant (Matthew 5:17) and a reversal of the effects of Israel’s spiritual backslidings. Wherever Christ went, He healed the sick, but this was not just because of kindness on His part; His healings were always a sign from heaven of Christ’s authority as Messiah (John 7:31). He was giving Israel a taste of the kingdom of God (Luke 11:20). Those who refused His authority were often left sick (Matthew 13:58). At the pool of Bethsaida, for example, Jesus healed only one in a huge multitude (John 5).

The apostles were also given the specific power to heal the sick, and for thirty-seven years they went everywhere healing those who heard their message. Again, their miracles, including healing, were confirmation of the truth of the gospel the apostles proclaimed.

The twelve apostles did not heal everyone, either. Often, there were Christians left unwell in spite of the apostolic power. Paul says to Timothy, “Use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses” (1 Timothy 5:23). Why didn’t Paul just lay hands on Timothy and heal him? It wasn’t because Timothy didn’t have enough faith; it was because it was not God’s will to heal Timothy that way. The healing ministry was not for anyone’s personal convenience; rather, it was a sign from God—to the Jews of the Old Covenant primarily—of the validity of the apostles’ message.

We are not living in the apostolic days today. Of course, God can and does heal today when He wants to. The question we need to ask in any given situation is, what does God want? Does He desire to heal the individual in this life, or does He have another plan to show His glory through weakness? Someday, all sickness and death will be eradicated (see Revelation 21:4). Joni Eareckson Tada will walk again. Until then, there is a greater healing, the cleansing of sinful hearts, that God performs every day.

Chad....really, there is not a single verse in the entire bible to back that up...Please show at least one verse where Jesus refused to heal anybody who came to Him for Healing....The bible is full of scripture promising healing for anyone who beleives and will receive it. Crowds came to Jesus one day, surely there was one person in there that Jesus was not willing to heal? Matthew 12:15-18
15 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;
16 And charged them that they should not make him known:

17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

Isa 53:5-5; 1 Pete 2:24 being my personal favorites. and dozens of others.
I have no doubt the author of that essay had good motives but.....He is wrong.

No where in the Bible does God *guarantee* or *promise* to heal every sickness. Examples? Paul's eyesight problems. Timothy's illness. 2 examples right off the bat.

How about your own ailments? What sickness or health problems do you have Bendito that God hasn't healed you of?

Also, go ahead and tell a born again Christian dying of cancer that it's God will to heal them and they're doing something wrong (like lack of faith) as to the reason why they're not healed. I challenge you to look that person in the eye and say those words.

The word "Receive" is not a passive thing...It means to reach out and take the thing offered....If you will to reach out to receive the healing purchased and offered you by Jesus, you will see your healing...I am healed, asthma, flu, sleep apnea, heart failure are all healed for me...There is NO man on the planet that can convince me that healing is not for everybody. By Jesus stripes we are Healed! So says the Word of God.....
Chad, that person dying of cancer. like my parents, were healed, from toenails to topknot, two thousand years ago. All that is necessary to see it is to believe that and reach out and take it. It's NOT a lack of faith either....But a lack of action

Good for you. You did not address the two important facts I made.

Why wasn't Paul healed of his poor eyesight?
Why wasn't Timothy healed of his stomach problems?

And finally..."go ahead and tell a born again Christian dying of cancer that it's God will to heal them and they're doing something wrong "

Your responses have no weight. The bible does not guarantee everyone will be healed and the proof is right there, including Paul right off the bat who wrote most of the NT books. Go figure.

Ok...Chad...You used 2 Corinthians 12:7
And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. Read the verse carefully and you will see that the Pauls 'malady' was not poor eyesight, It was a messenger of Satan, sent to buffet him. So Paul sought the Lord three times and each time God TOLD him how to deal with it. The first two times he missed it...But on the third time I'm guessing he got the message, and it got dealt with. Why? There is no more mention of any messenger of Satan.
Timothy....He suffered often with upset stomach from the water...The water in those days was not trustworthy and wine was used to both clean up the water, mixing water with wine. It was also used to settle stomach problems. We need to believe the Word for that healing, and restoration...We have been given the faith but if we do not believe it, we won't exercise that faith.....I'm thinking that Timothy was not at that point in relation to healing at the time. He needed the 'medicine boose'. Nonetheless, healing was his, when he was ready to believe that.

Wrong. No where does it explicitly say WHAT that thorn in the flesh was. It was clear throughout the books Paul wrote that he had eyesight problems. That's not a secret at all.

So Paul sought the Lord three times and each time God TOLD him how to deal with it.

God did not tell him how to "deal with it". He said "But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me." 2 Corinthians 12:9. You see healing here? No.

You still did not address what I said two times.

2 Corinthians 12

Paul’s Vision and His Painful Problem

12 We can’t gain anything by bragging. But I have to do it anyway. I am going to tell you what I’ve seen. I want to talk about what the Lord has shown me. 2 I know a believer in Christ who was taken up to the third heaven 14 years ago. I don’t know if his body was taken up or not. Only God knows. 3 I don’t know if that man was in his body or out of it. Only God knows. But I do know that 4 he was taken up to paradise. He heard things there that couldn’t be put into words. They were things that no one is allowed to talk about. 5 I will brag about a man like that. But I won’t brag about myself. I will brag only about how weak I am. 6 Suppose I decide to brag. That would not make me a fool, because I would be telling the truth. But I don’t brag, so that no one will think more of me than they should. People should judge me by what I do and say. 7 God has shown me amazing and wonderful things. People should not think more of me because of it. So I wouldn’t become proud of myself, I was given a problem. This problem caused pain in my body. It is a messenger from Satan to make me suffer. 8 Three times I begged the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” So I am very happy to brag about how weak I am. Then Christ’s power can rest on me. 10 Because of how I suffered for Christ, I’m glad that I am weak. I am glad in hard times. I am glad when people say mean things about me. I am glad when things are difficult. And I am glad when people make me suffer. When I am weak, I am strong.

Not enough? Read this about Paul's eyesight problem...

What Was Paul’s “Thorn”?

"There is some evidence in Scripture that Paul had an eye problem. He spoke of the large letters he used in writing to the Galatians (Galatians 6:11). He also declared that the Galatians would have plucked out their own eyes and given them to him (Galatians 4:13-15). Some have suggested that this may have been a chronic eye disease or an injury suffered when he was stoned in Lystra (Acts 14:19,20). "

As for the thorn verses you quoted:

The fact of the matter is that the Bible doesn’t identify Paul’s thorn. God must have had a good reason for not giving this information. He probably left it this way so that people with various kinds of physical and spiritual problems might identify with Paul and experience the grace that God has promised (2 Corinthians 12:9).

As for the thorn verses you quoted:
Evidence of Pauls poor eyesight? I'm sorry Chad....Not evidence..
Look at the large letters I use as I close in my own handwriting.
12 It is those who want to look good outwardly who are trying to get you to be circumcised. The only reason they are doing it is to escape persecution for preaching about the Messiah’s execution-stake. 13 For even those who are getting circumcised don’t observe the Torah. On the contrary, they want you to get circumcised so that they can boast of having gained your adherence.
According to the passage he CLOSED THE LETTER WITH LARGE PRINT. Like we do now for emphasis? Probably. When we're writing instead of speaking we need to express the emphasis, and sometimes with more than an (!) exclamation mark.
As to the rest....It's obvious that I will not convince you of anything. We'll have to agree to disagree. I will suggest though. When you read the Word, read the punctuation as well. As to the "my Grace is sufficient" I'll give you an example.

Yes, I would...The person needs a chance, has a right to decide whether or to take God at His Word. Chad, the problem is, people do not know Gods will, but the will of God is evident from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21

I had a heart block in 1990. While I was outside my body in the ER looking at my darkening body, my wife went into prayer warfare as medical staff were departing, having spent at least half an hour trying to bring me back. She got in my face shouting Come back! You will not die. Lord, I want my husband back the way he was yesterday. He is your servant, and he would agree with me. She got in my ear and said "Wake up. I know you are still here. Heart, start beating. I looked at the monitor, the green line still flat. I looked up and said Lord, I want her to have what she's asking for. I know I'm ready to go on with you Help these doctors figure out what to do and what went wrong. Whatever I've done to bring this on must be corrected. I'm committed to that." There was much more said, but when the Lord told me it was my choice, I slid back into my body and woke up. We praised the Lord. Many employees in that hospital were born again over it, and many more "rededicated". Other patients visited for prayer. Some were offended over our brash praying and claims, but many accepted. We learned of dozens of miracles and many more improvements in health. We go to surgery waiting rooms and lay hands on people who allow it. We see healing happen, and we hear scoffing, ridicule, unbelief. It's OK.

Two years ago my wife endured breast cancer at age 72. It was even spread down her side. The doctors gave her no hope. In that doctor's room I said "Thank you doctor, we are now free to totally trust God and take Him at His word to heal her." We always declare that. She took chemo. The staff was amazed she wouldn't need radiology due to lack of swollen lymph nodes. We continued to praise God in it all, and greatly increased ministry to dying people. My wife was recently told she no longer has cancer.

I met a man in a nursing home dying from several diseases. I got to know him and learned he was among the team that developed the first atomic bomb exploded over Japan. He regretted having part in so many deaths, tortured by that. I brought him to salvation, and taught him boldness in prayer. We went together boldly to God's throne for solutions, the help God promised. He got it. He has left the facility healed, taken up golf witnessing to men he knew, and bought a farm where he truck farms and gives the food to the poor and wealthy alike so they can eat healthily too.

Five Baptist ministers came to visit us to warn us of our practices. We think you are in danger by putting God on the spot. We are concerned that your methods will hurt someone we love." Well, it's a major reason we left the So. Baptists years ago, yet when they get sick they call us. We go pray, never asking for healing "if it be thy will". It is His will to be healed, as much as it is for us to be saved. He covered those on the cross after demonstrating His will while ministering among men.

When we stopped listening to unbelief, we began experiencing healing and salvations. Churches accustomed to a couple of water baptisms a year are gaining folks who were healed. Sometimes we send them to Baptist churches for a good basic Bible background, but they know. They know. Nobody can take that away from them.
John 5:5-16 (KJV)
5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.
10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?
13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.
15 The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.
16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

That method works today! Don't let hypocrites and the ignorant rob you of your benefits.

It's the least we should do. They are dying? Tell the unbelievers to get out of the room, and tell the patient to get up. What harm if they are "dying"? If they get up, that builds faith in them. Keep going with it. Deliver the word of God with power. Lay hands on them. Get some anointing oil from a Christian book store or online. It's a point of agreement. Put a player by them to play praise and worship songs and music. Hold their hand, love on them, don't be afraid. If staff is using yellow hazard gowns, wear one.

If you are not convinced what God's will is, stay away, otherwise you risk spreading unbelief. Testimonies of failed healing is not how to teach God's will. We've listened to Joni. Joni hoped for healing, never standing on the promises they way that pleases God. Saying you are "going" to be healed is not faith. Get to the point "I am healed by His stripes". We are supposed to be doing greater things than Jesus did. Together we can be a mighty force for the gospel.

I am very bold with people who tell me they are dying, suffering for God's glory. I will not shrink away from asking them "How is God glorified by that? If it's so, why are you here in the hospital resisting death, asking for pain meds, demanding services of doctors to help you live and not suffer? If it's His will, why ask for prayer from your church prayer team? Are you asking to be saved? Yeah, sometimes that makes people mad, enough to get them back home.

I will never join the hum-ho crowd agreeing we just can't understand as God's ways are not ours, but are higher.

That tells me folks don't spend time in the Bible, or they disagree with some of it.

“God may remove your suffering, and that will be great cause for praise. But if not, He will use it, He will use anything and everything that stands in the way of His fellowship with you. So let God mold you and make you, transform you from glory to glory. That’s the deeper healing”

This is allowing for God's Will to be done and not our own, which did not come readily. This is something that Paul learned through his own weakness. Look to what he learned from how he changed from asking for relief from what was happening to him to what he acknowledges would give him pleasure.

Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:10

This is what we need to grow into as difficult as it can be. There is nothing that happens to the believer in life that is without reason. We may not understand it, but we truly need to know that whatever is happening in our lives is but a thread of the full tapestry of our lives, and our lives a thread in the Tapestry of God's Great Work for all of us.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to [His] purpose. Romans 8:28

We may not always see it, but we know it to be true, that whether we are healed or not. You can do all things in Christ, to the Glory of God.

Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: ...Now to our God and Father [be] glory forever and ever. Amen.Philippians 4:11, 20

It's not saying that it's easy to come to the point where we do not feel overwhelmed not only in our own suffering or the suffering of others. Yet, if we keep our focus on point that is Jesus Christ, and what is His Will in this moment of time, we will do well.

Yes Brother @Bendito the boy learned, but maybe if you had gone and done the task, being much larger you'd of seen over the bush to see your wife lying on the ground who had just gotten bitten by the very snake you had just killed. This is why the "what if" scenarios as examples can fall short, because we are unable to see the complete work that God has created and can find scenarios to fit what we see to be true in the little that we do know. You don't have to explain the analogy brother. I understood it. However, what if scenarios even in analogies in fitting to a desired result can be endless.

This is not to take away from Healers, or Supernatural intervention because this too is within the Will of God. Yet, they in faith do what is to the Glory of God, whether healing happens or not. For ultimately this is the purpose we are His in Christ Jesus.

Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 (my emphasis)

With the Love of Christ Jesus.

I understand what you are saying Nick, I learned that in church too...The only problem with that teaching is that it does not line up with the Word. As an example; "Whether you're healed or not", you said...1 Peter 2:24 says "By Jesus stripes, you WERE healed....There is NO maybe in the Word for your healing.,
I had to laugh over your comment about the boy....Listen. If you walk in the anointing wherewith you ARE anointed, the snake will not bite, or if he does, no harm will come to you.
Mark 16:17-19 King James Version (KJV)

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
Paul was bitten by a snake, people sat there waiting for him to die, but what happened....Paul was no more special than you are Nick...The Father loves you just as much as He loves Jesus.
It really bothers me how much garbage the churches teach...How many people die because of the unbelieving junk taught by the pastors?
Listen! Living with sickness, or dying from it, is NOT suffering for Christ...Its getting your butt kicked because of unbelief. Faithis not even being used in this case. It sits idle because of unbelief.

LOL Brother, here we agree 110%. No arguments!

Hello Brother Bendito,
No I didn't learn that in church. What I wrote, was from the Spirit. Meaning, reading the Word of God and seeking to know it's meaning, by Word of God and by the insight the Holy Spirit provides. I can't say that I haven't done Bible studies, and can I say for 100% that I have not been affected by it? Of course not. No one who is honest can say that who has studied with others. That would include you as well Dear Brother.

Now, grabbing one verse to show this or that rather then taking it all in, apparently is the problem. You mention 1 Peter 2:24, however, it is past tense. Meaning that once you have come to the Lord you have been healed. We have been healed of what? Not of bodily infirmities, because as Brother Chad has shown, there are those in Scripture in being Saved were not healed. What we have been healed from is the ravages of Sin which bring death. Life brother is what we have and which Peter was talking about. Now this doesn't mean that physical healing does not happen, because Peter, and others throughout the age of the Church have been evidence of this, but there is also evidence that not all are healed, and blame was not placed upon an individuals lack of faith as being the reason this was so.

Now you have rightly stated the reference of Mark. However, we know that not all has the ability to heal. Unless you believe that the healing must come from the sickly? That kind of falls in line with the blind man, and the priesthood believing that it was sin that made this man so. Instead what our Lord stated, which was to bring Glory to God. Not to satisfy the man who was suffering this blindness from birth's desires, but rather, I repeat to bring Glory to God and so the healing happened.

I'm sure you think that looking it at the way we have described it here that then God is then the culprit for the healing not being done. Believe it or not that is probably true! Surprise you here? Yet culprit is probably how you might think it must be perceived, instead of seeing that it is for a reason unknown to us that it was not done. The reason I see it this way is that I understand that God does not have to explain Himself to me on why He would choose to have one healed and another not. I must ask you. Is it easier to blame the infirm person for lack of faith or accept our lack of understanding of God's reasoning why it was not done?

I would write more, but my Dear Wife has cooked an awesome meal that is starting to get cold!! :(
Know that I love you Dear Brother.

Blessed man you are at that.
Brother Nick I am praying you will keep the peace in this thread and keep it going.

These topics are dear to my heart and I believe I can contribute some Truth in this thread I have gained over the years.

My only set back is multiple devices needed.

My good phone with my Bibles has no data and my data phone is a cheap throw away.

So I must write and edit and blue tooth in HTML format from my good phone to the data phone then copy it back into text format and post.

Just does not always work well. However I hope to post one of them in the weeee hours of the morning and then write out the others on my lap top and head out to Starbucks for some WiFi.

Its been a Blessing how the different views are not causing strife.

Thank You
Love and Blessings in Christ
