Prayer to overcome body dysmorphia and depression

Member
Hi guys, i would like to ask members to pray for me to overcome body dysmorphia and depression.
The problem started when i was 15, and has been a really painful 14 year struggle. I am now 29.
I dont know why i keep thinking that my body is not good enough, and that i need to change something.

My weight keeps changing because sometimes i eat, other times i dont...so i gain or lose weight. But nothing stops the pain that i feel inside. I've currently lost a lot of weight. I keep feeling ugly and unworthy.

My family has a history of low self esteem and depression, and i was raised by a single mum.

This issue has affected me so much, i have never been able to hold a job for long. I have trouble focusing on working, since i am distracted by how i look. This also affects my self esteem leading to depression thus further reducing my ability to function normally.

At home, my mother is always screaming at me to get over myself and be useful. I dont think she understands the pain i am in on the inside. Sometimes the hurtful things she says have led me to smoke marijuana in an effort to stop feeling so guilty. The friends i had recently laughed at my issue with depression after i had told one of them about it. The loneliness is intense.

Antidepressants have not been of help.

Pray for me to overcome this, guys. It hurts so much to see my life just waste away because of this illness.

Thank you.

Thank you.

You pray to Father God, in Jesus' name, that you receive revelation as to how much He wants you to weigh, and when you are pleasing to Him, not anyone else. If anti-depressant meds are prescribed, take those until they are stopped by a doctor, since you have submitted to that treatment. Sudden cessation could endanger you. You might not realize whether they are working or not. My advice is a matter of knowing many people like you who don't think the medicine works.

Read a New Testament Bible many hours a day, straight through it. That's the best medicine! It will help you stop worrying too much about your flesh body. Make a poster for the wall saying "I will only focus on Jesus and His word for me today!" Train like a Kenyan soldier might. Choose a narrow way Jesus shows you, avoiding all wide highways others tend to take.

Say outloud 7 times a day with strength of voice: (keep count)
I AM a chosen generation in Jesus Christ.
I AM of a holy nation.
I AM a peculiar person in Jesus Christ.
I SHALL display the praises of Father God who has already called me out of darkness into his wonderful light:, and will keep praising Him
I HAVE obtained God's mercy, and am blessed with His greatest grace, an undeserved favor,
according to Your precious word of 1 Peter 2:9-10 (KJV)
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

You are on my prayer list.

Something that has always helped me get my mind off of my problems was to go serve someone else, maybe old widow, visit a nursing home, so many lonely old people that there kids have hardly anything to with would love some company from you I bet. And you would be surprised at what a blessing it becomes on you when you do this.

@naiboy

You are being "haunted" tormented by this foul spirit.

It seems it has hung onto your family and it is time this thing is STOPPED and kicked out of your family forever.

This is known as a generational curse. Although its not really a curse but an evil foul spirit which has plagued your family for years.

This spirit continues on year after year oppressing the weaker or easiest family members.

Born again People have been made righteous and worthy by Jesus.

2corinthians 5:21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Speak this often as well as other scriptures that say who you are in Christ.

Get the Word in you and allow faith to rise up and kick this thing out of your families lives once and for all.

As it is Written..... Submit unto God AND Resist the devil and he will flee.

Note Resist the devil is not ignoring him. You need Gods Word in you in abundance so it will come out in abundance.

Its up to you my friend.
You can put up with this or try and "Cope" with it OR you can run this thing out for good.

Bet all through the years different family members have spoken about this as if it is something that you all go through.

Don't Feed it - Destroy it.
Blessings and Love in Christ

Greetings @naiboy

Praying for you.

I see you have recently become a Christian.

Praise the Lord!

You are a child of the King.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17

Good words above.

I had to look up dysmorphia

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), or body dysmorphia, is a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. These flaws are often unnoticeable to others.

People of any age can have BDD, but it is most common in teenagers and young adults. It affects both men and women.

Only thing I would want to add is to find a church and believing friends who will take this issue seriously and give you some support.

Trust in God. No matter how difficult it gets he won't abandon you. Blessings

Thank you for the encouragement. I'm at the end of my rope actually.
I won't lie, suicide seems like an easy way out.
Especially when nobody understands what you are going through...it's hell.

It's good that you are honest and courageous enough to namensure that you are having suicidal thoughts.

If you are not already talking to someone trustworthy in person about this, please do. It makes all the difference.

Life is a long journey. There will be good times ahead when you will be glad that you kept going.

With prayers

..it's hell.

No.... hell is much much much many times more much worse.

It is good that you shared your trials, and we all will be praying.
A very good remedy is to go out and ask the Lord, Who loves you, to lead you to others who need help.
Honestly, get busy doing good and give thanks unto the Lord more than you give pity to yourself (and that is not a horrible comment from me, no way, and i think you should know that)

Start helping and praying for others in need.

looking forward to hearing the good that the Lord is doing in your life!

Bless you ....><>
ps, if you have the data, listen to the songs that Fragrant Grace shared with you as much as you can and get singing along.
Also, take hekuran's advice and get some fellowship with other believers. you will find that most have trials, too, and we can all encourage one another and that is pleasing to the Lord
Look to the Lord more than you look to yourself.... He is Beautiful and wants us to be one with Him in His fullness of beauty.

Greetings @naiboy

How are you today?

The Lord Jesus saved you. Rejoice in His abundant love for you.
Your feelings may betray you , but Jesus never will.

You are a beautiful child of the King.
Restored and forgiven.
He looks at your heart, washed and made clean by His precious blood.

Commit those horrible negative feelings to the Lord and praise Him.

But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.

Back after I posted about my problems, I left home for a rehab institute. That kept me off drugs long enough to get me to think straight.
While there, I met a lovely girl, who so happened to be one of my counselors. She is a kind, bubbly person and I hope to marry her one day.

After rehab, I looked for a small place of my own, started working on rebuilding my life.
I do freelancing work online now, and miraculously I have made rent on time for five months now, despite the tough freelancing economy.

I got accepted to the Google Developer Africa Scholarship, and somehow also made it through the exam phase. Out of 10,000 other candidates, only 1000 of us made it through! Now I am waiting to sit for the actual exam in January. I hope to become a cloud engineer.

It just hit me how much God has done for me so far. I look back at where I was at the beginning of this year and I see God is at work in my life.
I have no words.

I want to ask a local pastor to pray for me (a deliverance session) so that my life can continue to move forward.

I am praying for all of you too.

I am sure that others here will also be glad to read how you are doing and to know of the encouragement the Lord has been to you.

Stay strong in Him, keep the faith and give thanks!

I am praying for all of you too.

Thank you Bear.
I am watching videos online from John Piper and other gifted preachers about how to renew my mind.

I want to learn how to have a renewed mind through learning the Word of God.

Because even when I want to do the right thing, I find I fall sometimes, either through smoking weed or porn.

I am learning that I need to be humble and let God do His job. And be honest about my failures.

So i'm praying for God to give me a renewed heart too.
