The Way

Those that follow Jesus Christ are referred to as "Christians" today. This was not always the case, however. The Bible records another name that the first century church was referred as. In Acts 24:14 we read, "But this I confess to you, that after 'the way', which they call a sect, so worship I the God of the fathers, believing all things written in the law and in the prophets." Where did this term "the way" originate from? You may have guessed it, from Jesus himself (John 14:6).

What is the importance of knowing that the first century Christians were often referred to as "the way"? Today the term 'Christians' can mean many different things. There are many different denominations behind the term "Christian". The term "The Way" gives a much more clear and direct picture of how the first century disciples lived.

The obvious 'tell-tell' sign of someone being a follower of "The Way", was the WAY they lived their life. This is where the importance of this name comes to affect. The people knew they were followers of "The Way" because they followed the founder of "The Way", Jesus. In the same way a Jew is a Jew because he follows the customs of Jewish laws. A follower of "The Way" was known because they followed Jesus' way.

How simple yet profound this revelation is! All those that want to be a follower of 'The Way' must subscribe to the teachings of the founder (Jesus).

The point of this article is to point people to Jesus and His teachings. Those teachings that you can find in the four gospels. The same teachings that will judge us on the last day (John 12:48). These teachings separate a true believer of "The Way" from the imposters. You will know a good tree by it's fruit; therefore brothers and sisters, let us start (and continue) following Jesus' Way.

It seems the only way is Jesus Christ in how we are to come to God the Father by in worship, fellowship and prayer. John 14:6 KJV

By honoring the Son is the only way to honor the Father and the judgment is that when we honor not the Son, we honor not the Father; John 5:22-23 KJV

That is the reason why we will not find any scripture teaching the practice for the churches to do of worshiping the Holy Spirit with the Father & the Son. Indeed, the Holy Spirit has been sent to dwell in us to testify of the Son in John 15:26 KJV and thereby glorify the Son ( John 16:14 KJV ) and so how can He do that except thru us in worship and not just in outward ministry ! John 15:27 KJV

That is the mind of Christ we are to have in worship and that is the obedience Paul emphasized on in his absence in Philippians 2:5-13 KJV

If we are to claim to follow the Way, then let us know Who Jesus is the way TO and why, and that is because Jesus is the only way to come to God the Father by for anything for why scripture and the indwelling Holy Spirit is always pointing believers to keep coming to the Son as the Bridegroom for His disciples to be living this reconciled relationship with God the Father thru the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, our first love.

So the way cannot be about everything Jesus has taught but the Way is about the Son in how any believer can approach God the Father by for anything in prayer ( 1 Timothy 2:5 KJV & Hebrews 4:12-16 KJV & John 14:13-14 KJV ), fellowship ( 1 Corinthians 1:9 KJV & 1 John 1:3-7 KJV ), and worship ( John 13:32-32 KJV ).

John 6:63, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

Jesus' words/teachings are the true Jesus. Not his body, but His spirit. His spirit is perceived through His words as this and John 14:26 testifies.

Jesus was testifying how to be saved because His disciples were thinking like the Pharisees that they still had to eat this bread of life by believing in Him. If we go back from your reference in John 6th chapter, we may see this truth.

John 6:30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? 31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. 32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. 36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.

Jesus told them how to receive the bread of life by coming to and believing in Him, but because the Jews did not believe His words, their mentality was still stuck on receiving manna from heaven in eating this bread of life. And so Jesus was explaining to His disciples that His words are life that when they believe His words on how to receive the bread of life by coming to & believing in Jesus Christ, they would have eternal life.

So in context, Jesus was not talking about everything He has said but explaining to His disciples how to receive the bread of life by believing His words that by coming to & believing in Him is how to receive eternal life.

The others words that Jesus has said are for abiding in Him as His disciples so that we may bear fruit and our joy may be full, but that is not for salvation but for following Him as we are to trust Him as our Good Shepherd to help us to.

I think this is very true. When we believe Jesus' words, then we have eternal life. The next question is how to interpret what "believing in Jesus' words mean". Simply put, it is to obey the words that Jesus said. We believe in Jesus, therefore, we follow his commands. One cannot profess to believe in Jesus, and at the same time not believe in following His commands. The statements are contradictory.

By nature, if someone believes in the very words of someone, this would cause them to obey the very words that the person they proclaim to believe in spoke. Cognitive dissonance comes in when we proclaim that we believe in someone, but then we find difficulty believing the words that they spoke.

This is the error with the thinking that obedience isn't linked with salvation.

Jesus taught clearly that he expects us to obey him in order to be His disciples. He told the believing Jews (John 8:31), "if you continue in My word, then are you My disciples indeed." Notice that Jesus considered these men disciples of Jesus only by continuing in His word. At any point they stray from the path, then they will stop being His disciples, and only disciples of Jesus are saved, since Christians and Disciples of Jesus are the same thing (Acts 11:26).

John 15 which you alluded to is a perfect example of Jesus saying that if we obey his words, then we will be pruned and have life, but if we disobey his words and don't bring forth fruit, then we will be cut from the vine and send to hell (to burn). This is directly linked to salvation. One can also conclude that someone could be steadfast in the Word (saved) but later fall away if they stop following the Word (loss of salvation).

It seems the main point of contention is the thought that obedience to Jesus' teachings isn't linked to salvation. Jesus taught otherwise, and can be clearly seen through His words. Some people may find scriptures from Paul in order to interpret Jesus' words, when in fact, we should use Jesus' words to interpret Paul's! As what happened in Bible times, "As also in all his (Paul's) epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable twist, as they do the other scriptures, to their own destruction." (2 Peter 3:16)

So how does one run that race for the high prize of our calling? By looking to the author and finisher of our faith in believing Him to be our Good Shepherd to help us lay aside every weight & sin in running that race and so the call to obey Him is still by believing in Him as our Good shepherd to finish what He has started in us for why we would cast our crowns at His feet because the crowns are really His crowning achievements in us for why no flesh shall glory in His Presence in Heaven.

I see. Belief in Jesus secures our salvation. It sounds like the idea being portrayed is one of OSAS. Is that correct? I may be wrong, so please correct me if I am.

However, Jesus has warned His disciples that they too can be cut off for not abiding in Him as His disciples so they can bear fruit as His disciples in John 15:1-8 KJV He did not say it was for salvation, but from becoming a castaway.

Paul says the same thing in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 KJV about running that race. So the only way we can apply John 6:39-40 KJV with 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 is to recognize castaway is a form of excommunication of unrepentant saints and former believers for not being found abiding in Him when the Bridegroom comes. Those left behind are being given unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh ( physical death ) as the devil will wage war on the saints left behind thus mirroring what the church is doing when excommunicating any one now in the hopes it will lead them to repentance now in 1 Corinthians 5:4-5 KJV. If the church is to hold fellowship for this reason in 1 Corinthians 5:7-8 KJV & especially in 1 Corinthians 5:11 KJV , can God do anything less for when He gathers the saints to sit at the table for the Marriage Supper in Heaven? The belief that once you get Saved you will always be Saved is a false doctrine. This doctrine, doing the most damage to the Christian walk.

i will make an attempt in this Chapter to reveal to you Scriptures that teach contrary to the teaching of Once Saved Always Saved (OSAS)

It all started probably when i was 16 or 17 years old, and at that time, i believed all that men were teaching me, that Once Saved, you are always Saved, then i read this verse.


  • Corinthians 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

One of the many questions i had prepared for when God came calling was about this verse. i asked Him “But what if your Saved?” and the Lord said unto me “What does my Word say?” i replied “It says that they which do such things won’t inherit the Kingdom of God” The Lord said unto me, “Do I lie?” i said “No, Lord” Then He said “Those who continue to do such things without ceasing from them, regardless what they say with their mouths, will not enter into My Kingdom” (That being answered, i proceeded to ask Him other questions i had concerning Scriptures)

Now here is the dilemma, i know many people who claim to be Saved, yet they continue to live in those evil things that are mentioned in I Cor 6:9 such as being a fornicator (sexual relations with others that is not their spouse) and adulterers (those who are married having sexual relations with others who they are not married to, or having sexual thoughts about others who is not their spouse (Mat 5:28).) So then either Once Saved Always Saved is True or what Scriptures says is True, BOTH cannot be True!!!

You can’t be both Saved (going to Heaven) and a fornicator (going to hell). For example:

Bob at the age of 25 accepts Christ as his Savior and Lord and gets Saved. All his sins are forgiven him, he is now a new man in Christ (II Cor 5:17) He believes Jesus is the Son of God, and that He died on the cross for his sins. Bob repents of his sins, crying at the alter. Now according to the teaching of today, this man is Saved. And according to Scriptures is Saved. Ten years later, still a Christian and still Saved, he decides to move in with a girl, which includes a sexual relationship with her, without getting married to her. He is doing this to make sure they are compatible together, and marriage would be an option later, providing everything works out alright living together first.

In Truth, Bob is now a fornicator, because he is having a sexual relationship with someone who he is not married to, not being married himself. So then he, according to Scriptures is a fornicator, yet he is also Saved (if it be so that a Saved person can’t lose it)

Now Scriptures teach a Saved person is going to Heaven, Scriptures also teach that a fornicator will NOT go to Heaven. How can Bob be both going to Heaven and not going to Heaven at the same time? Are you seeing the problem?

If Once you are Saved, you are always Saved, than it doesn’t matter what you do afterwards, you are still Saved – This is not Scriptural – but is a precept of man. A false doctrine.

Now those who are die-hard fans of the Once Saved Always Saved teaching, are quick to say “ Then Bob was never Saved to begin with” Which i can understand why they would think that, because if Once you are Truly Saved you will always be Saved and if at the end of your life you are found not Saved, then it stands to reason you were never truly Saved then, according to their thinking. But there is one problem with this line of thought, and i present to them a question, to which i rarely get a response. The question is “If Bob, were to have died after he accepted Christ (Saved) and was forgiven and redeemed at the time he accepted Jesus into his life, But before he became a fornicator, would he then go to Heaven?”

Now do you understand why they don’t answer? If they say “No, he is not Saved” How then is a person Saved? If they say “Yes” then they are forced to see that Bob WAS Saved indeed prior to being a fornicator, but only became unsaved when he chose to live in fornication and became a fornicator.

So then the only conclusion is – that Bob WAS SAVED when he accepted Christ and all his sins were forgiven unto him, the moment he asked Christ to forgive him of his sins and asked Him into his heart, but lost his Salvation when he chose his own self to walk away from God and to live in fornication, which is something that will prevent him from going to Heaven despite what he says with his mouth (i.e. “I’m Saved”, or “I’m a Christian”, or “I’m under Grace”, or “I’m under the Blood of Jesus”)

i know this is hard to swallow, that is because it is meat of the Word and not milk, and milk is what most Christians of today are still being fed, and not meat."

Now those who are die-hard fans of the Once Saved Always Saved teaching, are quick to say “ Then Bob was never Saved to begin with” Which i can understand why they would think that, because if Once you are Truly Saved you will always be Saved and if at the end of your life you are found not Saved, then it stands to reason you were never truly Saved then, according to their thinking. But there is one problem with this line of thought, and i present to them a question, to which i rarely get a response. The question is “If Bob, were to have died after he accepted Christ (Saved) and was forgiven and redeemed at the time he accepted Jesus into his life, But before he became a fornicator, would he then go to Heaven?”

Now do you understand why they don’t answer? If they say “No, he is not Saved” How then is a person Saved? If they say “Yes” then they are forced to see that Bob WAS Saved indeed prior to being a fornicator, but only became unsaved when he chose to live in fornication and became a fornicator.

So then the only conclusion is – that Bob WAS SAVED when he accepted Christ and all his sins were forgiven unto him, the moment he asked Christ to forgive him of his sins and asked Him into his heart, but lost his Salvation when he chose his own self to walk away from God and to live in fornication, which is something that will prevent him from going to Heaven despite what he says with his mouth (i.e. “I’m Saved”, or “I’m a Christian”, or “I’m under Grace”, or “I’m under the Blood of Jesus”)

If a carnal Christian uses OSAS to rationalize living in sin as always saved, then he would be ignoring the repercussions for not running that race in laying aside every weight & sin and that is to become a castaway as per 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 KJV There is no loss of salvation, but there is a loss of that first inheritance and that is a damnation in and of itself because once that door to the Marriage Supper is shut, no one can have that first fruit of the resurrection. So like the prodigal son that gave up his inheritance for wild living, he can never get it back, even though he is still son. That is why there are vessels unto dishonor in His House that did not depart from iniquity before the Bridegroom had come; 2 Timothy 2:18-21 KJV

If a struggling Christian cannot find the hope to continue on resisting sin because they find themselves drawn back to that habitual sin, and thus wondering if they had ever been saved or that maybe they can't be saved at all, then OSAS needs to be applied so that the struggling Christian then can be instructed to look to Jesus Christ for help in laying aside every weight ( provisions for the flesh ) as well as the sin in running that race as our confidence is in Him to finish His work in us to His glory ( Philippians 1:6 KJV ) as all the fruits of righteousness are by Jesus Christ ( Philippians 1:11 KJV ) Delivering believers from their sins is His job for why we can hope in Him ( 1 John 3:3 KJV & 1 John 3:8 KJV ) That is why sinners and struggling Christians can hope in Him in 2 Timothy 4:18 KJV & Jude 1:24-25 KJV . Most often times than not, it is religious Christians that quit because their commitment to follow Christ condemns them every time they sin. They believe they cannot do it by keeping that commitment religiously as their sinful nature seems to mock their willing spirit because the flesh is weak. That is why Jesus did not put confidence in men to follow Him because He knew what was in man; a sinful nature as confirmed in John 2:23-25 KJV . That is why He said in Luke 9:23 KJV ) if anyone would follow after Him to deny himself ( as being able to ) pick up the cross daily, as crucified with Christ as not I who live, but Christ lives in me as per Galatians 2:20-21 KJV and Galatians 3:1-3 KJV & Galatians 5:1,5 KJV ) to follow Him because that is the only way we can follow Jesus is by faith in Him and all His promises to us ( 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 KJV & Hebrews 2:18 KJV & Hebrews 4:12-16 KJV ). That is why little children are free to come to Him for all they can do is put their trust in the Lord in taking Him at His word; Mark 10:13-15 KJV

The thing about OSAS, we are not running that race to obtain salvation, but to obtain the eternal glory that comes WITH our salvation ( 2 Timothy 2:10-13 KJV ) and that is to be received by the Bridegroom as a vessel unto honor in His House.

To run that race to obtain salvation is to cease testifying of Jesus Christ as our Savior if we are not really saved yet, but we are saved and our having been saved by Jesus Christ is why and how we can run that race by looking to Him to do it.

So denying OSAS is more dangerous because that is denying that you are saved by Jesus Christ. If we are not saved yet, then we cannot testify with assurance that Jesus Christ is our Savior. Christianity just becomes another religion and the Good News becomes.. "maybe a Good News, but can't really tell you yet till I am in Heaven". But we can tell others that Jesus Christ is our Savior because we are saved.

But I understand if you see believers using OSAS as an excuse to live in sin but it has been my experience that I never heard nor seen any one defend OSAS just so they can live in sin yet. It is usually those who oppose OSAS that say that about others as if they are using OSAS as an excuse or teaching it as such. More often than not, new believers are not being discipled in learning of Jesus Christ as their Good Shepherd in helping them run that race as His disciple for the high prize of our calling to obtain the eternal glory that comes with our salvation and that is to be received by the Bridegroom with any reward of crowns as His crowning achievements in us as vessels unto honor in His House at the Marriage Supper.

From what you shared there seems to be something that needs to be understood if we are to know the way to salvation. What must someone do to considered 'saved'? Are there any requirements, or is it free in the sense that we don't do anything at all to receive salvation?

Believe Jesus Christ for salvation because He is a free gift.

Romans 5:17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. 19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

But running that race is for what we build on that foundation ( salvation ) which can never be removed, in abiding in Him as His disciples to be fruitful and that our joy may be full when we trust Him as our Good Shepherd to help us to follow Him. That is why believers are warned not to sow to the works of the flesh or they will reap corruption and if found in them when the Bridegroom comes, they will be disqualified from attending the Marriage Supper in Heaven to be resurrected later on.

If believers run that race to obtain salvation, then that is the same as testifying they are not saved yet, and they could not really say that Jesus Christ is their Savior yet for Him to be the Good News to man. 1 Corinthians 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

So believing in Jesus Christ as our author & finisher of our faith that He will help us lay aside every weight & sin in running that race for the high prize of our calling to be received by the Bridegroom as a vessel unto honor in His House is word.

I need clarification on this part. From what I read you are saying if someone believes that 'running the race' (which is the equivalent to obeying Jesus) in an attempt to obtain salvation will cause us to lose salvation because that equates to us denying Jesus?

No. No one will lose their salvation, but they can be denied by Him for denying Him as having saved them as their Savior; thus being disqualified from attending the Marriage Supper in Heaven whereby they will have to be resurrected later on after the great tribulation, forever damned as vessels unto dishonor in His House. That is why the prodigal son that gave up his inheritance for wild living is still son, even though he lost his inheritance and can never get it back. That is why the vessels unto dishonor in His House because they will testify to the power of God in salvation by even believing in His name.

Discipleship is about running that race as saved believers but by faith in Him as our author & finisher of our faith to help us lay aside every weight & sin to be received by Him as that vessel unto honor in His House when the Bridegroom comes.

Titus 1:15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. 16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

A saved believer does not have to verbally deny Him when being in iniquity is denying Him, and therefore denied by Him as disqualified to attend the marriage Supper in Heaven when the Bridegroom comes; unless he repents before He comes.
