"Being" Saved

Loyal
Have you ever noticed how many Bible verses say we are "being" saved. What does that mean?

1 Cor 1:18; For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
2 Cor 2:15; For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing;

Luke 13:23; And someone said to Him, "Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?" And He said to them,
Acts 2:47; praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.

It seems we are a work in progress. We are "being" conformed into the image of Christ. Paul said...

Php 3:10; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;
Php 3:11; in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Php 3:12; Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
Php 3:13; Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead,
Php 3:14; I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Is everyone saved without going through some trials to "prove" your faith?

Jas 1:12; Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

1 Pet 1:6; In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,
1 Pet 1:7; so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

Mark 16:16; "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

I wonder if it's just my Bible, but why does it say he who "has" believed, instead of he who "believes". Maybe the belief has to proven over time.

Matt 10:22; "You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.
Matt 24:13; "But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.
Mark 13:13; "You will be hated by all because of My name, but the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.

Being in Christ we are already perfect without sin as there can be no sin, or darkness in Christ. Christ being in us and transforming into his likeness is a ongoing process. Eventually we will become the man we already are in Christ.

Are you making a statement you believe or just chewing / wanting discussion on this? It seems to me that you are making scripture say something it is not saying.

The context here is on par with saying twenty year old's are getting married. Or rich kids are going on holiday. There is a specific time one IS married. There is a specific time one IS on holiday.

It seems we are a work in progress. We are "being" conformed into the image of Christ. Paul said...
This is a separate issue to being saved. Once we are married, we grow closer to each other. We learn more about the heart of God and give in to His will more and more. Just as a loving couple do. I make my wife coffee everyday, I never did this before for anyone. Conformed to the image of Christ speaks to better grasping the mind of Christ. His heart for loving and pleasing God. His heart for loving others.

Php 3:13; Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead,
Php 3:14; I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Paul's preaching is full of scripture like this. 1 Cor 10:12 is a popular one. If you think you are standing take heed lest you fall. This is all evidence of two facts. 1. Paul preached to saved and unsaved in a meeting. He never wanted the unsaved to think they saved. He also never wanted the saved to think they are 100% saved, in case they weren't. The mind is deceitful and the devil is sewing deceit into it daily. 2. Paul never professed to be God that can judge hearts at a depth of intent Jer 17:9-11. As was done with the thief on the cross.

Have you ever considered what it takes to get saved? Why it is that those in the tribulation can get to heaven by dying for Jesus?

I have proven in the other thread that God removes Himself from knowing our future choices. God wants to know the depth of intent of each one of us. The depth of intent required is laid out in Matt 16:24 ''lay your life down''.

Now many have not yet done this. So, for those on the fence, I do believe without a shadow of a doubt that God sends trials unto extremities close to and including death. Of course I am not excluding the reality of this happening to those who have already proven themselves to God / are saved.

So when scripture says here ''whoever endures to the end will be saved'', it is speaking to those who make a stand for Jesus / endure extremities that reveal their love for God. For what is good.

We can either 1. Sincerely repent Psalm 51:17. or 2. Be persecuted for Him. Both are evidence of us laying our lives down for God.

We must not insinuate that this persecution be a necessity for all. It is not. Many have died and gone to heaven without much persecution.

For those that are close to God and also go through persecution as Job did for example, well these people will be in the highest positions in heaven. Have the greatest rewards.

I think you may be right here, but on the other hand, if the trials do come... we can't shrink back from them.

Heb 10:39; But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.

Also... what is persecution? Sometimes it can mean threat of death... but sometimes it can be as simple as peer pressure.

Matt 10:33; "But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.

Those who are being saved (1Cor 1:18) and/or those who shall be saved (John 10:9) have a leg up on John Q and Jane Doe pew warmers.

Note the grammatical tense of the "have" verb in the passages below. It's present tense rather than future, indicating that Christ's believing followers all have eternal life right now-- no delay, and no waiting period.

"He who believes in the Son has eternal life" (John 3:36)

"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life." (John 6:47)

"I assure you, those who heed my message, and trust in God who sent me, have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from Death into Life." (John 5:24)

"I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life." (1John 5:13)

NOTE: The right-now possession of eternal life is very crucial because according to God's testimony, as an expert witness in all matters pertaining to Christianity; people lacking eternal life do not have God's son. In other words: they are quite christless.

"This is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in His son. So whoever has God's son has this life; and whosoever does not have this life, does not have His son." (1John 5:11-12)

People that argue with God's testimony, are insinuating that He not only doesn't know what He's talking about, but also that God is a dishonest person of marginal integrity who can't be trusted to tell the truth.

"Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar by not believing the testimony God has given about His son." (1John 5:10)

When people do that-- when they insinuate that God is dishonest --they imply that He belongs in hell because according to Rev 21:8, hell is where all liars are destined.

Anyway; I should think that it goes without saying that people lacking eternal life-- christless people --are in grave danger of the sum of all fears.

"If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ." (Rom 8:9)

But a true Christian won't. A true Christian has already laid their life down for Jesus. We have our weak flesh, but our heart is sold out to Jesus. So, just like Peter, we may deny Jesus three times. But we will at the end of the day accept persecution and death. It is inevitable.

Think about kidnappers / or gangsters. If they get hold of your wife or children, you will do whatever they want. Why? A Christian is a child of God. A Christian is a bride. I love and would die for my earthly father and my wife. God does not graft us in to His family, write our names in the Lamb's book of life if we do not genuinely love Him. God is not a fool.

You are arguing from the position that persecution is necessary to know our love. Unless a kidnapper wanted me to sell all I had to get my daughter back, my daughter would always doubt the depth of my love for her? That is true to a degree. It can be true when we are discerning with our human mind (known by our deeds). It is not true for God who judges depths of hearts and minds Jer 17:9-11.

I hear this often, but then I also hear many "Christians" say I still live in sin. They believe they will never stop practicing sin. So much for what a "true Christian" won't do.
The majority of them, even here on TalkJesus will say "we are saved by grace alone" (which the Bible doesn't say "alone") and we can't lose our salvation, so I don't have to do those things.
I'm already as saved as I can be.

No, I won't renounce my faith, not even for them. In fact I rarely see or talk to most of my children, because of my faith.

Luke 14:26; “If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.

This is exactly what the end times and the beast is about, all people will be tested to see if they put their lives before their faith.

Rev 20:4; Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

If you renounce your faith because your life, or even your families life is threatened, you have no place in the kingdom of God. Jesus says you can't be His disciple.

To me... this seems like two contradicting statements... "a true Christian won't" ... and then "you'll do whatever they want". You can't have it both ways.

just reading Jude and this rings a bell...................

Jude 1,,4
For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

We must not throw the baby out with the bath water.

You use the words, ''live in'' and ''practicing''. I don't believe any Christian ''lives in'' and ''practices'' sin. A Christian is at war with their flesh. They are battling sin.

...and many say we keep ourselves saved.

Neither are true. The truth is that God can know who are His after He judges depths of hearts and minds. We 'can' know who are His, by observing 'works'. We can know we are His, by 'harshly' judging ourselves.

Phil 2:12 Work out your salvation in fear and trembling.
1 Cor 11:31
Judge yourselves truthfully and you will not be judged.
1 Thess 5:22
Avoid all appearance of evil.
2 Cor 13:5
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you unless, of course, you fail the test?

IE If Jesus is in you, you cannot fail the test. If you fail the test, Jesus is not in you.

That is good to hear. My context was the dedication you have to dying for Jesus. Why will you die for Jesus? You love Him. Do you have to die before you know you love Him, or He knows you love Him?

The truth is because He knows you will die for Him, He grafts you into His family. In case you don't get the opportunity to actually die for Him.

I will not hesitate to give my life for my family, because they are my family. My family is my family because I am able to lay my life down for them. This is why in a million years time, a centillion years time, for all eternity, you and I will still be with God in heaven. Jesus saves those who lay their lives down for Him. What more can He ask of us? What more can we ask of Him? It is a perfect relationship based on the extremity of love. Not on perfection / true sinlessness. Love is the perfection.
