1Corinthians 13:8-10
8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

anyone know what perfect is here this scripture is referring to?
I will give you my opinion, and I do believe I have the Spirit of God.
The scriptures tell us that Jesus gave certain gifts unto man for the
"perfecting" of the saints when he ascended into Heaven.
Eph 4:10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God,
unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
These gifts, which are people were to be in existence
"until" we all come in the knowledge of the Son of God unto a
"perfect" man. Once this
"perfect man" comes then all the ministry gifts will end.
That is why it says in the verse you quoted that "
prophecies" will fail,
"tongues" will cease,
"knowledge" will vanish away. All these things are used in ministry today to bring the Church unto this perfect man, and when he comes they will no longer be needed, which is why they will be done away with.
The
"perfect" has nothing to do with becoming sinless, it has to do with becoming
"mature". Another scripture that reveals this to us is found here.
1Co 13:10
But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
1Co 13:11
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
The Apostle Paul is talking about becoming
"perfect" which really means
"mature". Just to make sure we do not under understand, or misinterpret what he is talking about he uses the analogy of a child going from being immature to maturity.
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
We all start out looking through a glass darkly, but eventually as we grow in the Lord we begin to see more clearly until we see face to face.
1Co 13:12
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
