A change in lifestyle

As I'm reading through the threads this morning.... I see the usual differences and opinions.
But I am really encouraged because I see something else. I see many threads about quitting sin.

There are of course debates about "how perfect d I have to be"? I hope this thread doesn't get sucked
into those debates. The purpose here isn't to say "how" good you have to be. Only to say..

.... a change is expected ....

Eph 4:28; He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need.

This is pretty basic... if you're a thief. Stop stealing.

1 Pet 4:1; Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
1 Pet 4:2; so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
1 Pet 4:3; For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable idolatries.
1 Pet 4:4; In all this, they are surprised that you do not run with them into the same excesses of dissipation, and they malign you;
1 Pet 4:5; but they will give account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

The language here is a bit awkward. "to live the rest of the time in the flesh". This simply means
"while you are still alive in your fleshly body".

We are supposed to "no longer" live for the lusts of men.
There comes a time we should be "past" carrying out these desires.
Verse 3 has the list of things we should no longer be pursuing.

The word Gentiles is used two ways in the Bible. Often it just means "non Jews". In the context above, it
mean "unsaved sinners".

It says "they are surprised" that you don't continue running around with them and keep on doing the
same things they do. Is this you? Are your friends surprised that you have different priorities than they do?
Do they wonder why you don't go out drinking and carousing with them anymore?
Or are you just continuing on in sin like nothing ever happened?

===============================================================

1 Cor 6:9; Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
1 Cor 6:10; nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Cor 6:11; Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

Verses 9 and 10 give another list of things to avoid. Stealing, drunkenness, adultery, etc...
Verse 11 is the key here. "Such were some of you". But you aren't this way anymore. You were changed.
You quit doing these things. You weren't washed and sanctified so you could continue to do these things.
You were washed and sanctified because you repented and "quit" doing these things.
If you're still doing these things, you will not inherit the kingdom of God.

===============================================================

Eph 5:3; But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints;
Eph 5:4; and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.
Eph 5:5; For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Eph 5:6; Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
Eph 5:7; Therefore do not be partakers with them;

Do you hang around while your friends tell dirty jokes? Do you join in and try to tell a dirtier one?
Do you make crude comments about a woman's physical body parts?

These people have no inheritance into the kingdom of God. Have you ever really thought about that?
Let no one deceive you. The wrath of God will come upon people who practice these things.

... there are dozens more verses like this in the Bible. I you know of some that talk about living differently
because you are a Christian... please post them here.

this is a great post and really so easy to relate to in real world life. I lecture all my old friends how there lifestyle is going to lead them to hell from my understanding of what the bible says, most do not take me serious at all. One does and he is on the right path .

I sent another buddy last year a bible with every verse I could find about drunkness and sexual morality in it highlighted, I speak with the same fellow once a month maybe, and he tells me not to worry he is saved God has forgiven him, yet he still lives with his girlfriend, and drinks often.

you can look at someone face book page and get a good idea of what type of life they are living. I see this party lifestyle as the biggest thing that is going to send people to hell,

Shoot I got in a argument on face book group called basic theology when I posted some of these same versus about not inheriting the kingdom of heaven and the leaders in the group said not I do not understand scripture you simply loose you rewards you are still saved, I left that group. They also claimed that the luke warm church in revelations was saved.

I think we all agree here that when the bible says you do not inherit the kingdom of God that it means you are going to hell, unless you change.

I could tell you one story after the other whear I bring this stuff up and no one takes me serious.

I cant even watch a the same tv shows I used to watch , God has done a number on me praise the Lord and thank you Jesus !!

Do all things for the glory of God and for the glory of the name of Jesus Christ.
You are in my prayers.

Gal 1:21; Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia.
Gal 1:22; I was still unknown by sight to the churches of Judea which were in Christ;
Gal 1:23; but only, they kept hearing, "He who once persecuted us is now preaching the faith which he once tried to destroy."
Gal 1:24; And they were glorifying God because of me.

I think this is a great testimony about change.
Paul is wandering around.... people don't know who he is. (I was still unknown by sight v.22)
But he hears people talking about him.
This guy Paul, who used to be persecuting us... is now preaching the very gospel he wanted to destroy.
.... and people glorified God.

We are all going to die unfinished masterpiece's, we are all going to fall, but never stop trying to help yourself, because it all starts with you. I mean, how can you help anyone else if you don't know how to help yourself.

And if there is a creator, then this creator has given us everything we need to fix ourselves and each other, we don't even have to ask. But if there's no creator, then this meaningless universe still gave us everything we need.

It's win win.

Everything but an eternal afterlife filled with the rewards of our works done in the name of Christ Jesus.

If I thought that life on earth was all a man can expect, I would go crazy.

The Atheist who doesn't accept a creator doesn't go crazy.
Even if he does not, he still dies without hope beyond the grave. The Apostle Paul also wrote this for believers:

"If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable." I Cor 15:19

He wrote of misery while in this flesh with no hope beyond this flesh. But... we do have real Hope, whereas unbelievers have at best whatever "fun" or other such limited things they are able to find before their end comes:

"Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun." Ecc 8:15

But, we, those of us who believe in the promises of God, also have joy even right now while still enclosed in this veil of flesh.

"Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost." Rom 15:13

That is because the atheist rejects the promises of God...regarding the eternal future.
All the atheist has is today and now. Look out for number one.
That just seems so empty to me.

even if there was not eternal life (which I do not think for a second), the things God has done to me I would never want to go back to living the way I was before I was saved, since coming to Christ I have never has such inner piece and joy in all my life

Saved from what exactly?

It is a win or loss. Not win, win. You don't know what you don't know. Though in your case, I think you do. We are saved from a life without God.

You need to try and remember what being in the presence of God felt like when last you attended church.

Matt 4:4 Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

If God is not in your life you are not living. You are just existing.

life of bondage
I can't agree more and I have been saying this from the very first time here at TJ.
Those who don't / can't understand get offended but it doesn't make it any less true.
Anything about God, the Bible or Life that is a negative, is derived by a bondage to untruth.
Though there are many untruths that many of us are in bondage to, I think one of the greatest for some and a good example of what one is, is: " God does not Love me!"
