Walk in the Spirit.

Loyal
As a side discussion to 'Child like Faith' I would love it if we could take a look at "How do you walk in the Spirit?"

I put this question before you because, being born again, does not mean 'walking in the Spirit' Being born again does not mean "In Christ" So.....What does 'Christ' mean? It is not Jesus' last name....yet we are to be in Christ.

Romans 8:1 Here's one for you....We have been christ-ed What does that mean? Do we walk in that?

LOL We'll start with that but oh there is more!

If we are born again, we are in Christ. If we are born again, and we are in Christ, we should be walking in the Spirit. Christians can fall back into sin and can even drift away from their pure devotion to Christ sometimes (See: Rev. 2-3, for example), but the Bible says that if we walk according to the flesh and we claim to be in fellowship with God, we are liars, and that we don't have eternal life with God. So, if we are born again and we are in Christ then we should not be walking according to the flesh, but we should be walking according to the Spirit.

Jesus, the only begotten Son of God (God the Son), the second person of our triune God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - is the Christ, the anointed one, our Savior, Messiah, redeemer. So, we can say "Jesus, the Christ, the Son of the Living God," or we can simplify it by saying Jesus Christ to distinguish that Jesus from anyone else named Jesus, and to show that he is the anointed one of God to be the savior of the world.

Our walk is our lifestyle. It is our daily practice. It is how we conduct our lives day in and day out. It is normally what we think, feel, believe, do, say, etc. It is our habitual way of living and thinking and believing and behaving. It is our general disposition and our attitudes and our values, too. If we are walking by the Spirit, our thinking, believing, speaking, behaving, etc. are fashioned by God and not by the flesh. Jesus Christ truly is Lord (owner-master) of our lives in practice, not just in theory or in name only. We live our lives in the power and working of the Spirit of God within us under his guidance and direction in godliness and holiness and in purity and righteousness as a matter of course, as our habit, our practice. Sin no longer has dominion over our lives.

Ok But what if we are not walking by the spirit? What all does 'christ ' mean?

Whether or not we are walking by the Spirit does not alter the meaning of "Christ." Do you mean, What does "Christ" mean to us or what meaning does it have for us if we are not walking by the Spirit? Just trying to understand your question.

The word 'Christ' is not English...It's a word that the translators never translated...Its a Greek word. It means "The anointed One and His anointing...The Word say we are anointed with the same anointing that he is anointed with.
But....But if we do not walk in that anointing, how can one say they are in Christ? We walk in Christ or we do not. How many scriptures, how many promises come with "If we are IN Christ"? We have to walk in the anointing to be in Christ, we have to walk in the anointing in order to receive many promises. Do you see what I'm driving at?

Christ is the same as Messiah. It's not a name. It's a title. I personally think it gets a little into semantics.
For example I believe in the trinity, I believe they are all three God. But I do not believe they are the same person.

The phrase "born again" is only used 4 times in the Bible.

John 3:3; Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."
John 3:7; "Do not be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'

Of course this is the famous discourse with Nicodemus. But what does Jesus say being born again is? He never says it is being born of Christ.
He says it's is being born of the Spirit. (Holy Spirit)

John 3:5; Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
John 3:6; "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

1 Pet 1:3; Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1 Pet 1:23; for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.

Notice it says here... according to the Father's mercy (not Jesus's mercy) we are born again "to a living hope" through the resurrection of Jesus.
Our flesh is perishable. Jesus didn't come to save our flesh (although He does heal us from time to time). He came to save our soul.
The seed that is "born again" is not flesh... flesh is perishable. The seed that is "born again" is born of the Spirit.

You can't "walk by the Spirit" without the Spirit. You can't live by the Spirit without the Holy Spirit. ... and you can't be born again
without the Holy Spirit.

1 Cor 15:42; So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body;
1 Cor 15:44; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

This new "spiritual" body within you is how you are born of the Spirit.
Even Peter doesn't say being born again is being born of Jesus.
Paul says the same thing.

2 Cor 5:16; Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer.
2 Cor 5:17; Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

Paul no longer recognizes them according to the flesh, He recognizes them according to the Spirit. "IF" anyone is in Christ, he is a creature.
No longer living to serve the flesh. No longer mastered by the flesh. But living by the Spirit, according to the Spirit.

Yes, I absolutely do! I know what the scriptures teach on this, and I believe the scriptures. But, what I see is this. If we walk according to the flesh, we will die in our sins. If we sow to please the flesh, from the flesh we will reap corruption, but if we sow to please the Spirit, from the Spirit we will reap eternal life. But, we may still sin. And, scripture also teaches that daily we die to sin and self, and that by the Spirit if we are putting to death the deeds of the flesh, then we have eternal life.

So, what I see at work here is that walking in the anointing, or walking in or by the Spirit or according to the Spirit doesn't necessarily mean we never sin, but that we don't walk in sin, it no longer has control over our lives, but we now live by the Spirit of God and we conduct our lives according to the Spirit, by the Spirit, and empowered by the Spirit. If we sin, we repent and we keep on walking in the Spirit. But, this does not mean we can sin, confess, sin, confess and on and on with the same sins over and over again, for that is not true repentance. That is more like walking according to the flesh if we continue in sinful practices and we never truly change.

But, yet I also see that scripture indicates that the church, i.e. believers in Jesus, can, at some point, fall from their purity of heart and devotion to the Lord in some areas and that they may need to be revived and brought back to a right fellowship with the Lord. I don't think they go out of being "in Christ" at that point in time, but it is also possible that they never were "in Christ" to begin with. But, if they are "in Christ," then I believe God will bring them back. Yet, I also know that we should never ever take God's grace for granted or think that since we are "in Christ," IF we are truly "In Christ," that we can live however we want and God's grace covers it all. Scripture is real clear on that subject. If we walk in sin, we will die in sin. And, yes, scripture speaks much of what it means to be "in Christ," and it has everything to do with walking in lifestyle (in practice) according to the Spirit and no longer according to the flesh.

I think what you are hitting on here, if I understand correctly, is that we can't just make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ and yet continue living in sin, engaged in sinful practices. Being "in Christ" means death to sin and living to righteousness. It means we walk according to the Spirit and no longer according to the flesh. If we say we have fellowship with God but we walk in darkness, we are liars who do not live by the truth. We are not saved from our sins by a mere profession of faith. And, faith is not an intellectual assent or a one-time emotional decision made at an altar. True faith in Jesus Christ results in a transformation of heart and mind of the Spirit of God wherein one dies to sin so that one can now live to righteousness. If we say we are saved but we are still walking according to the flesh, then scripture teaches we are not really saved; we are not really born again.

Seems like a new thread.
Had you supplied the rest of verse one of Rom.8, you would have had your answer.
"...who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."
Those walking in the Spirit, INSTEAD of in the flesh, are the born again.
