sins Unintentionally

Since we are of the flesh we have a sin nature. Therefore we can sin and not even realize it. I say this not to say its ok to sin, I point this out so we can see how badly we all need a savior in Jesus Christ. We are not righteous in what we do we are only made righteous in what Jesus did for us.

Leviticus 4:2
“Speak to the people of Israel, saying, If anyone sins unintentionally in any of the Lord's commandments about things not to be done, and does any one of them,

Leviticus 5:17
“If anyone sins, doing any of the things that by the Lord's commandments ought not to be done, though he did not know it, then realizes his guilt, he shall bear his iniquity.

Leviticus 5:15
“If anyone commits a breach of faith and sins unintentionally in any of the holy things of the Lord, he shall bring to the Lord as his compensation, a ram without blemish out of the flock, valued in silver shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, for a guilt offering.

Leviticus 4:27
“If anyone of the common people sins unintentionally in doing any one of the things that by the Lord's commandments ought not to be done, and realizes his guilt,

Numbers 15:22
“But if you sin unintentionally, and do not observe all these commandments that the Lord has spoken to Moses,

I notice in almost all of these cases... there was still a price for the sin.

Lev 4:2; "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'If a person sins unintentionally in any of the things which the LORD has commanded not to be done, and commits any of them,
Lev 4:3; if the anointed priest sins so as to bring guilt on the people, then let him offer to the LORD a bull without defect as a sin offering for the sin he has committed.
Lev 4:4; 'He shall bring the bull to the doorway of the tent of meeting before the LORD, and he shall lay his hand on the head of the bull and slay the bull before the LORD.

Lev 5:17; "Now if a person sins and does any of the things which the LORD has commanded not to be done, though he was unaware, still he is guilty and shall bear his punishment.
Lev 5:18; "He is then to bring to the priest a ram without defect from the flock, according to your valuation, for a guilt offering. So the priest shall make atonement for him concerning his error in which he sinned unintentionally and did not know it, and it will be forgiven him.

Num 15:22; 'But when you unwittingly fail and do not observe all these commandments, which the LORD has spoken to Moses,
Num 15:23; even all that the LORD has commanded you through Moses, from the day when the LORD gave commandment and onward throughout your generations,
Num 15:24; then it shall be, if it is done unintentionally, without the knowledge of the congregation, that all the congregation shall offer one bull for a burnt offering, as a soothing aroma to the LORD, with its grain offering and its drink offering, according to the ordinance, and one male goat for a sin offering.

Rom 2:12; When the Gentiles sin, they will be destroyed, even though they never had God’s written law. And the Jews, who do have God’s law, will be judged by that law when they fail to obey it.

If we are "of the flesh", we haven't yet "crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts" (Gal 5:24)
That means we are not "Christ's"

A true repentance from sin, and baptism in Jesus' name for the remission of our past sins, will remedy that.

Love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced His perfect love. Are we beginning to praise ourselves again? Are we like others, who need to bring you letters of recommendation, or who ask you to write such letters on their behalf? Surely not. Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame. Of course we know, that at a curtain moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves. Then the man and his wife heard the voice of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. The Lord God called to the man saying; “Where are you"? he replied; I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid myself. Who told you that you were naked?” the LORD God asked. “Have you eaten from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat?
Notice this is a two part question the Lord asks Adam: He first asks “WHO told you, you were naked? Implying that SOMEONE told them of their nudity. The Lord was not ignorant of man’s recent encounter with the serpent; HE knew exactly how things transpired. Just like when He asked Adam “Where are you,” do you honestly believe that the Lord didn’t know? It was a heart question that Adam heard the Lord ask in the garden that day, a question that all hear when they are hiding from God.
“Where are you,” is not a question concerning a geographical location, it’s a question that cuts straight to the heart and speaks to your sin and asks, “whose voice are you listening to now?” Where are you? Means: If you are no longer walking in accordance to MY will, whose will are you walking in accordance to? For you have moved outside of MY will. His question about "WHO told you, you were naked?", makes it evident that a person’s nakedness can only be perceived if SOMEONE tells them they are naked. The Lord could have said, “How do you know that you are naked?” but He didn’t. He said “Who told you?
Now, not only did they know what sin was; they understood what it meant to turn from what is good and choose evil instead.
This is why they hid themselves amongst the many trees in the garden. This is very similar as to why some go to large churches; often times, it’s to blend in among the masses. The Garden of Eden in Hebrew means the Garden of Pleasure. The Garden represents the earth and we are its trees. Numerous times in scriptures the Lord compares us to trees i.e. (you can tell a tree by its fruit) When we know we have sinned we hide ourselves amongst the trees of the world in hopes that God won’t see us or our sins in the midst of everyone else’s. But we as children of God will always hear the voice of the Lord walking in the garden of this world calling out to us, “Where are you?” whenever we stretched forth our hand for that forbidden fruit.
The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.
So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?
Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous — not even one. And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard. Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside. But Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father’s nakedness. So Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done to him. Then he said: “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants he shall be to his brethren.” And he said: “Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem, and May Canaan be his servant. May God enlarge Japheth, and may he dwell in the tents of Shem; and may Canaan be his servant.
In the case of Noah’s sons, the hearts of each man was revealed. Ham after happening upon his father’s weakened and shameful condition went immediately and told his two brothers of the news. Shem and Japheth handled the news like true Christians and demonstrated the true love of God by covering Noah’s nakedness without looking upon his shame. When we approach one another’s weaknesses with this heart attitude, we will be just like the man in the parable Jesus told about the Good Samaritan that demonstrated what a neighbor was and what being a neighbor meant.
All a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the LORD.
Just then a lawyer stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he said, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the law? What do you read there?” He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” And he said to him, “You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.” But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan while traveling came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, ‘Take care of him; and when I come back, I will repay you whatever more you spend.’ Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?” He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.

John 3:6

If we are born of God's Spirit, which we are, we have the nature of God, and we have to develop that....The Holy Spirit does not live in us as a guest but as one who changes us and grows us up, through the Word....if we allow that.
Again.....If we were of the flesh we would not be able to receive the things of the Spirit, they would be foolishness to us.
1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Again.....If we were of the flesh we would not produce the fruits of the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22

That's enough 'agains' for now. LOL

Only the word, awesome! Amazing how many draw offence to it.

In regard to unintentional sin, according to James, (Ja 1:14-15), " But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death."
Sin requires temptation, lust, enticement, and conception.
Pretty hard to accommodate all four "accidentally".
All sin is intentional, in the NT.

Yeah...Man needs help to sin...He does not sin without he is tempted...That's why there is salvation for us but none for the tempter...The tempter did not need to be tempted...He simply decided to do it. When, for example, did you ever sin without you were tempted? Even when you sinned deliberately you were tempted first.

In the OT things were a bit different, if someone sinned, even uninetionally they had to sacrifice an animal as payment or atonement. We no longer sacrifice animals cos all that was done away with when Jesus who was the perfect sacrifice paid for all the sins of the mankind.

Thats why you need to be born again...and set free by the blood of Jesus as well as baptized for remission of sins. You need to confess and repent of all your sin. Whatever it is your flesh is lusting after. Then you are changed clean, risen to life given a new heart and SPIRIT. Because God removes this sinful flesh and cleanses you!

How this works for a christian? Christians do not follow the OT mosaic law unless they are still observing the old convenant and being circumcised like jewish people still do today. So we dont need to memorise 613 mitsvot and be kosher and sacrifice animals for our firstborn. We cant even go to the temple cos there is none made with human hands anymore!

Well when Jesus sends you the gift of the holy spirit He is your helper. He will reminds you of what you need to be doing in Gods will. So listen to Him! Then you wont sin but...YOU need to be listening and then acting on His word. To help you God has given all of us access to His Word in the Bible..make sure you read it every day and ask God to help you understand it. Dont go back to your old life.,,its been put to death on the cross.

If you have somehow missed a step and are trying to be sin free on your own strength thats not going to work. You need to ask God for this gift. If you stumble ask God for forgiveness and wisdom to keep you from temptation!

Jesus discples asked him how to pray...so he gave them the Lords prayer. Try praying it.

Dave M Job was a person who would sacrifice animals to even cover his children before they could do anything wrong! So certainlly people can be sinning unintentionally but thats why the Holy spirit is the one that will convict their hearts. However as we know some people do not have the holy spirit so how do they even know right from wrong.. but their heart will condemn them.

God wanted his people to be holy..well now we can be with help of Jesus. The faithful saints are not walking in the flesh. We walk in the spirit. If you are walking in the flesh then you just need to be born again. I dont know if you meaning yourself when you mean 'we' or unbelieving mankind in general...? Sometimes its hard to understand if people are talking about we as believers, the sheep who know and love Jesus or we as humans..who may not know Jesus.

Yes, but notice that under the law given to Moses, while there was atonement for unintentional sins, someone guilty of intentional or premeditated sin was cut off from his people: no atonement!

"And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth by ignorance before the LORD, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him." Num 15:28

"But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him." Num 15:30-31

Looking at what I've writen here, we now can understand what Paul meant when he said. "Work out your own salvation [that is, cultivate it, bring it to full effect, actively pursue spiritual maturity] with awe-inspired fear and trembling [using serious caution and critical self-evaluation to avoid anything that might offend God or discredit the name of Christ].

You are in effect saying that only unintentional sin could be atoned for.
I can't buy that.
If it were true, David wouldn't have been able to be absolved for his adultery.

Do you think some kind of change happened after the writing of Numbers so regular sinners could be atoned for?
Leviticus 6 contains orders for sinners: trespass offerings are to be made for sin.

Please don't put words in my mouth. All I did was point out that according to those verses there was no atonement. Draw your own conclusions as to how other verses elsewhere may or may not be impacted.

I really don't think that a person who got a bit rebellious and decided to do something sinful is what is being referred to....The person who sins as a lifestyle deliberately is the one with no atonement.
As in, "Oh its not problem if I live with this married woman, even if I'm not married to her...We're fond of each other so that's ok." No attonement. Compared to..."I can't resist doing this....I'll do it just this once, to relieve the pressure of resisting...Tomorrow I'll get right and start living right again".

Even so! Of course, we are not the ones who draw the line between something being subject to atonement and something that will cause us to be cut off. Those verses, of course, are OT under the law given to Moses, but they provide at least for us a type of shadow of what is to happen now. In spite of the differences between covenants God has never changed.

God is looking at our hearts and judging accordingly. This is why as @At Peace indicated David did not suffer the precise punishment prescribed for him under Moses law. For both murder and adultery the punishment was death. David was guilty on both counts, and when the prophet Nathan came to him, David expected and was willing to pay that price:

"And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die." II Sam 12:13

Because David's heart was right with regard to his sin, God put it away. In your example @Bendito of living with another's wife, the difference is blatant. God is always looking at what is really in our heart:

"Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts." Prov 21:2
