All sin is the same?

Loyal
As the scripture say, the wages of sin is death. The good thing is that if we repent God will forgive us wiping the slate clean. Along with this as in the OT, if our sin against someone else has caused that person a loss, we must acknowledge that and repay what we can. We might be saved in the end, but we may also have to pay with our time [imprisonment], money [fines] and/or our natural life [capital punishment].

For most sins God will allow us time to repent. If we try the Lord repeatedly, as did the children of Israel in the wilderness, by repenting that then reverting to our old ways, eventually we may find ourselves in the place with Esau:

"Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears." Heb 12:16-17

Yet its exactly what the bible teaches. I know I have responsibility to seek God yet I know its God who draws me in, that sure is hard to grasp perhabs the human mind can not grasp what it fully means, of course one has to be humble to understand they can not understand everything in the bible that is why we need faith.

Proverbs 16:9
The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.

Jeremiah 29:13
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

John 6:44 ESV / 38 helpful votes
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.

The Lord directs our circumstances. Not our decisions.
God draws everyone to Jesus, some just choose to reject Him.

A phrase you hear a lot is "all sin is the same in the eyes of God". But I wonder.... is it really?
I was unable to find this phrase in any of the Bibles I have.

Well, when they take that phrase and turn it into "No sin is greater than any other sin" to defend saved believers that are admitted homosexuals, and even for preachers to be homosexuals to keep on preaching in the pulpit, then they are applying such phrases for saved believers to be living in sin without repentance.

Indeed, some may even say that it is not an unforgivable sin to get a divorce; which is true in one sense, but yet a temptation from the devil for any one to say Just as it would be about committing suicide. Did God give grace to commit sin? No.

What is done is done, but to tempt someone to go ahead and sin may be the sin that is greater than any other sin because that is causing a brother to stumble or to go astray. You might as well tie a stone around your neck and cast yourself into the sea rather than say anything like that.

Not that no one can be forgiven, because they can but with it, a call to repentance by asking the Lord for help not to do that again.

The closest I could get was ...

Jas 2:10; For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.

James reference to the law was to show the vanity of keeping the law, but in context, he was addressing believers that abuse the poor by showing favoritism to the rich in the assembly, and by doing so, judging the pooras if by the law, and therfore breaking the spirit of the law in not loving others.

John 19:11; Jesus answered, "You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin."

Judas Iscariot had died in unbelief.

Luke 12:47; "And that slave who knew his master's will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will receive many lashes,
Luke 12:48; but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.

That was referring to saved believers that will be left behind for not preparing themselves by Him to discern & depart from iniquity where they wind up being castaways as in left behind at the pre trib rapture event to suffer the fire coming on the earth and the subsequent great tribulation as a result.... if you read that in full ( Luke 12:40-49 ) at the link below.

Bible Gateway passage: Luke 12:40-49 - King James Version

Any unrepentant iniquity that a saved believer is found in, even former believers that had their faith overthrown, even though He still abides in them, shall be left behind at the pre trib rapture event when God shall judge His House first, but He is faithful in keeping the souls of His saints left behind that will suffer the coming great tribulation.

1 Peter 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

Lev 18:22; 'You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.

Some sins are called "abominations".
Strongs defines abomination like this...

tô‛êbah tô‛êbah
to-ay-baw', to-ay-baw'
Feminine active participle of H8581; properly something disgusting (morally), that is, (as noun) an abhorrence; especially idolatry or (concretely) an idol: - abominable (custom, thing), abomination.
Total KJV occurrences: 117

This seems to be different from just sin.
Gen 4:7; "If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it."

chaṭṭâ'âh chaṭṭâ'th
khat-taw-aw', khat-tawth'
From H2398; an offence (sometimes habitual sinfulness), and its penalty, occasion, sacrifice, or expiation; also (concretely) an offender: - punishment (of sin), purifying (-fication for sin), sin (-ner, offering).
Total KJV occurrences: 294

I do wonder if the use of abomination is God's way of breaking through the mentality of some sinners that He has given them up to having a reprobate mind for loving the creature ( the outward appearance ) more than the Creator. It may be just calling it a sin is not enough, but an abomination to speak to those that have gone astray so far into the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life that God would give them a reprobate mind for. Indeed, God may have foreseen how society will rationalize such sins for which an abomination is necessary to speak of it for what it is in the eyes of God.

Do you see society advocating for adultery to be rationalized? Just a suggestion for why I think God calls certain sins an abomination because the world would try to justify those kinds of sins. Of course, there are other sins like masturbation, that the world has justified, but isn't called an abomination to the Lord in scripture, but in actuality in according to His words, all sins are. I believe abomination is used by the Lord on several occasions in His words to draw the line of distinction when the world says it is not a sin.

Matt 12:32; "Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

It seems one of these two things can be forgiven, but the other will not be forgiven.
I am simply asking the question. Is all sin the same to God?

The only sin I see in scripture listed that the Holy Spirit will convict any one of, is not believing in the Son.

John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

So I am led to believe that the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit was the Pharisees rejecting believing in Jesus Christ by what they had said.

Any one that believes in Him are saved and any sins committed in that regard shall be forgiven; it is the sin of unbelief that will not be forgiven. That is the greatest unforgiveable sin of never having believed in Him.

As it is, a saved believer can err from the truth and have their faith overthrown and thus become former believers, but He still abides in them even when they deny Him, but they are at risk for being left behind at the pre trib rapture event to be received later on after the great tribulation as vessels unto dishonor in His House. This is why His disciples seek the good of other believers so that they too may obtain the eternal glory that comes with our salvation in Christ Jesus by departing from iniquity so they can be received as vessels unto honor in His House to attend the Marriage Supper held in His honor.

2 Timothy 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him : if we deny him, he also will deny us: 13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.............
18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

So any work of iniquity that a saved believer is in can deny Him and thus wind up being denied by Him to attend the Marriage Supper, but He still abides in those saints and even former believers that are left behind to be received later on as vessels unto dishonor in His House as a testimony to the power of God in salvation for even those who believe in His name.

So the only sin that is so great that cannot be forgiven... is never having believed in Jesus Christ.

Heb 10:26; For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

Is willful premeditated sin worse that other sin?

In context to that chapter, as it is mentioned what that sin is in that verse 26, is after having received the knowledge that there is no more sacrifice for sins, that the believer sins willfully as if there still is. That is the sin that is a warning to believers against committing. In other words, how any saved believer takes communion, they will be judged by God the Father for treating the blood of the New Covenant, the blood of His Son, as if it was on par with the blood of goats and bulls that it bears repeating and receiving again.

Hebrews 10:3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.....9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us:...............18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

So in context to verse 26, this sin willfully part was about after having received that knowledge that there is no more sacrifice for sins, and yet sin willfully as if there still is necessity to receive that one time sacrifice for sins again. That is what is going on in the Mass as the Catholic catechism says in making that one time sacrifice for sins "present" again to receive again thus treating the blood of the Son on par with the blood of goats and bulls. The very Witness that the Holy Spirit is in the saved believers dwelling forever is why there is no more sacrifice for sins.

That is the sin that will bring the comeuppance from God the Father for willfully committing in thinking they are receiving that one time sacrifice for sins again, but do note they are still His people.

Hebrews 10:6 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Verse 29 testify to the consequence of that sinning willfully part in verse 26, and identifies that sin more in verse 29 as treating the blood of His Son as if it was not good enough that it was on part with the blood of goats and bulls that priests has to offer that one time sacrifice for sins "again" to saved believers to be received "again".

Protestants are just as guilt of thinking they are actually receiving the blood and body of our Lord Jesus Christ at communion; as some believe His Presence is in the bread and the wine to be received again. There can be no receiving of Him again. Communion is to be done in remembrance of Him of what He has done in having saved us that now He dwells in us always and is with us always.

There is no coming into His presence at communion nor walking away from His Presence at communion, because He is in us and is with us always. Such words deny Him when churches performs communion in that way, and are taking communion in an unworthy manner.

A lot of believers and churches need to repent on how modern day churches are giving communion in these latter days.

Gal 5:21; envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Are sins that we "practice" continually worse than other sins?

In this case, the sins listed will place the saved believer at risk of not being received as a vessel unto honor in His House to sit at the Marriage Supper table in His honor, unless he turns to Jesus for help in laying aside every weight & sin to depart from iniquity before the Bridegroom comes.

1 Jn 3:9; No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

Sometimes we still sin, but is there a difference with sin that we "practice".

When on says they have not sinned and therefore does not repent of that sin, then that is practising sin or living in sin.

The Book of 1 John covers that when read in full context.

1 John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Continuing reading...

1 John 2:1My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

Many readers misread the Book of 1 John as if it is about salvation or being saved, but it is about abiding in Him as His disciple in maintaining that fellowship with the Father & the Son so that their joy may be full.

Believers have become religious in these latter days in trying to overcome sin by the religious flesh as if they can finish it by the flesh what was begun with the Spirit, but the apostle John points to our hope in Jesus Christ for overcoming sin by destroying the works of the devil in our lives so that sin has no dominion over us any more as He also helps us to keep us from those sins while we trust Him as our Good Shepherd to do that in laying aside every weight & sin.

1 John 3:.3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.....8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Hebrews 12:1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

2 Timothy 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

Sin is not the same. Not to God. Not to us. Not in any law of man. It should not be to anyone.

God ordained differing punishments in the OT. Not all sinners were to be stoned to death. God does not change!!! Mal 3:6, Numbers 23:19, Heb 13:8, James 1:17.

People make the assumption that all sin is the same from two verses imo.

1. Rom 6:23 Wages of sin is death
2. Matt 5:28, The thought of adultery is adultery.

Some people want to push heresy, rather then grasp the correct context of these two verses. For example as has been mentioned, a person in homosexuality would want to justify and feel justified to stay therein as ''all'' are sinners. Or we would want to rationalize our inaction in dealing with / helping grievous sinners around us. 'That fornicator does not need help, I have a log of thoughts in my eye'. Who am I to judge?

Rom 6:23 Wages of sin is death:

Death is absence from God's presence. Punishment that Adam and Eve received when they ate of the fruit. Two crucial facts to grasp on this. 1. They actually 'ate' the fruit. 2. They did not go to hell / lake of fire. They went to earth.

Matt 5:28 Thought of adultery is adultery:

Well, Jesus qualifies what He says in Matt 5:28 with Matt 5:32. Actual sexual immorality is grounds for divorce. Not thoughts. So it should be pretty clear that Jesus is making a point separate from the grievousness of sins in Matt 5:28. Namely that all are sinners and need to repent.

Conclusion:

1. Only God is perfect. All humans and angels have levels of good and evil to which they give in. God draws a fine line. That is why we will have those righteous that are barely saved 1 Pet 4:18.
2. All of us deserve death, but not all of us deserve hell / lake of fire. Only those sold out to sin. Whose love of sin reaches full measure. Those who love what is evil more then they hate it. Rom 12:9, John 3:19, Gen 15:16.
3. If Jesus never died for any of us, if He said on the cross ''I cannot do this'' and jumped off. What would happen to us? Would we all be in hell / lake of fire together? No. There was a divide in Hades called Abrahams bosom. Both these places were in death outside of God's presence.
4. A Christian is to judge and discern all matters 1 Cor 2:15. Saying all sin is sin, is doing the complete opposite of this instruction from Paul

Wages of sin are death...

Does anyone know what a wage is, its not just meaning payment it actually means weight, as in the days when people got paid it was in weight of gold or silver or even salt.

Some sin weighs heavy which is why Paul would say lay aside your sin its like a weight weighing you down.
The more you sin the more weight gets added to you.

Only God can lift you and raise you from death. If youve sinned so much that you like a dead weight and got no spirit in you cos you grived the holy spirit away then you aint going to go up, you going to sink to the bottom like a stone. When Jesus was saying about paedophiles, those that abused and hurt children, he said tthey were going to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck, that was how heavy their sin is to God.
