A Day of Remembrance?

Only one day? Only today?

Of course for those who do believe, is there not to be a remembrance every day of what Jesus did for us? A song says that "He paid the price that we could not pay".

If we really have Life now, can we ever not remember? Can we ever forget?

But, although men mis-remember His sacrifice and do not even try to understand what He went through so that we can LIVE with Him, we, yes, we, those of us who understand, or are beginning to understand, will recall His death and resurrection continuously on a daily basis:

"This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. " Psalm 118:24

God the glory, indeed!

Good point Amadeus....What happens too, if Easter is not a day one celebrates? There would be no day to remember? I agree. Daily remembrance is best. And why not, then, remember while taking communion with Him?

I stopped celebrating Easter and Christmas several years ago, after having celebrated them for 60 some years. Why did I? Because this is not the way Jesus has asked us to remember him, for one, and because these celebrations are combined with the worship of idols (false gods), which God forbids. And, I celebrate Jesus with my life every day. I don't need a special day to do what I do every day, and especially if those holidays are combined with holidays which worship false gods (Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, presents, easter baskets, et al). Not only that, but Jesus gets upstaged by these false gods on these holidays which are supposedly given over to celebrating him, especially in the minds of young children. He is shown, in pictures and in statues, as helpless both as a baby in a manger and as a man hanging on a cross while Santa is all knowing, all seeing, all powerful and omnipresent (delivers presents to everyone all in one night), and he is the one who gives gifts to the children, as does the Easter bunny, who gives them baskets full of goodies. I believe this is purposeful, and that it is of Satan, and it is for the purpose to steal the hearts and minds of young children and adults alike, and to present himself as God and all powerful while Jesus is portrayed as weak and helpless. My 2 cents worth.

LOL I agree Sue...I do not want to celebrate Ishtar or egg laying rabbits that symbolize fertility...I didn't want an argument either.. As with Christmas, we celebrated Jesus but with all the pagan trappings...The fact remains.....We cannot Christianize a pagan feast.

For me... I need a special day. Yes, I think about Jesus being born on other days besides Christmas.

When my Lady and I dumped Christmas and Easter we asked Father, Now what do we do? Can we have a winter celebration to break up the monotony of seven months of winter? His answer came swiftly "You don't have enough feasts" and that was it...His answer was very ambiguous to us. But wait! His answer came in the form of teaching for us To this end...

The Passover Feast: the 14th day of the month of Nisan. The first full moon of spring.

- The Feast of Unleavened Bread: the 15th to the 22nd of the month of Nisan.

- The Feast of Firstfruits: the first day of the week following the Sabbath of the Passover in the month of Nissan. It could be 16th of the month, if the 15th was the Sabbath day. Otherwise, it would have to wait until the first day of the week following the first Sabbath day of the Passover.

- The Feast of weeks (or Pentecost): the sixth day of the month of Sivan.

- The Feast of Trumpets: the first day of the month of Tishrei.

- The Day of Atonement: the 10th day of the month of Tishrei.

- The Feast of Tabernacles: the15th day of the month of Tishrei.

Then there was a 'but but but' time for us...So He taught us about these feasts...as in....Passover is not about God delivering the people from slavery to Egypt anymore but the Blood of Jesus delivering us from sin...

I'm going to save my fingers here, not writing all of it out, and I'll keep my typing fingers for my new book which is flying out of my head/spirit. Look at this website. It teaches quite well how the Feasts of God fit a born again Christian...Our reasons for celebrating them seem to differ but in fact mesh quite well with the Old Covenant people.

The celebration of a day is not the problem unless it gets in the way of first things first as God has ordered them:

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matt 6:33

I stand with my wife because I care about her and because God requires it of me. She chooses to celebrate in a small way some of the things that @B-A-C has mentioned. Herein might be a problem if we were to fight on this point, but that has never happened.
God did place us in the world to enjoy what He made so very good at the beginning. Enjoying it is not of course in itself wrong, but remember our priorities, God's first things first.

Man has, as we all know, made many of those very good things evil. This is why being led by the Holy Spirit in all that we do is so very important. We can move into those things which men have twisted and made evil.

"O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps." Jerem 10:23

There are many days available. According to our present calendar, not less than 365 per year. Some one born on every one of those days. Should we remember those days for anyone? The answer to that question certainly in the eyes of God depends upon the purpose of our memory. Remember what Mary remembered:

But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart" Luke 2:18

"And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart." Luke 2:51

None of what I have said has changed our priorities which should always be God's priorities. This is why it is always so very important to hear His voice and be obey what He tells us. Does He speak the same thing to every person for every moment of time that each person has given to him/her? I would most certainly say, "NO!"

Other believers may be wrong and we may even know that they are wrong, but will not God speak to us when He wants us to speak to them?

1Co 12:14 For the body is not one member, but many.
1Co 12:15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
1Co 12:16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
1Co 12:17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
1Co 12:18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

I love the body of Christ, don't you? I enjoy that we have such a place as this where we can share with one another.

I think cos easter falls around the same time as passover that the holidays just got celebrated together anyway. But its good to have two days off work or school.

I dont celebrate easter with pagan symbols like eggs anymore though its annoying when other people give them to you (the chocolate ones). It is also annoying to have it called easter when what christians are called to celebrate is Passover or the lords supper, which was originally a passover meal.

It used to be it was traditional for everyone to have a sunday roast lamb in my country anyway, so many make the effort to have lamb at passover time.

I do know some christians dont really care about the egg thing but I personally wont teach it to my class or give out chocolate eggs. Its the same with halloween and christmas, too much paganism dilutes the message of salvation. It confuses everyone, especially children.
