"How does one know that it's the Holy Spirit teaching them?"

Loyal
So we all know that one of the things the Holy Spirit does in us is to be our teacher...But how do we know when its the Holy Spirit vs when its our own enthusiastic thinking vs when the enemy, the devil inserting thoughts into our minds? We will always hear three voices....Our voice, Gods voice, or the devils voice....and we have to know the difference. What do you think?

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." (John 14:26)

"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: (John 15:26)

"And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
Of sin, because they believe not on me;
Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged." (John 16:8-11)

"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you." (John 16:14)

"And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth." (1 John 5:6b)

Good verses but what about the question?

It is a good question, but let the questioner speak first the answer, according to his faith.

LOL Oh! A challenge! I'll wait till others share how they know...Then I'll share how I know...I did not post this to be a debate but a simple question....Since God deals with each person as an individual He will do it different ways....Oh Ok One way He does it with me is a 'download' It could be a simple answer or an entire concept. I'll ask Him a question and the answer is there before I even finish asking..Isaiah 65:24 (CJB)
24 Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear.

And you'd better believe that answer MUST line up with Scripture, or it was not Him answering.

Ask Him to confirm it, one confirmation is not enough either...I saw quite few people who gone complete nutters because they are so sure it's God/Holy Spirit speaking to them, they become deaf to any arguments offense is usual response. I once saw a "prophet" on facebook who lost his cool and started to swear and insult woman because people were doubting his authority. Religious demons are tough, all those denominations, did Holy Spirit created them?

From personal experience? Words from bible, often answers come that way, also He reacts when when i use bible verses in my prayer i can feel that. He always right, i know im wrong before even trying to argue, and if I argue he simply gets quiet... It's probably not the answer you are looking for, but i can't offer any other he is so pure so gentle there is nothing in this world that even comes close to that, i don't have any doubts myself, but i couldn't help those who do either...Though if He says quit your job instead of calling you on your sins it's a good reason to start having doubts...
Also im uncomfortable calling Holy Spirit "he" for some reason...

Sig There are no wrong answers to this question....and I love your answer...He does me that way too... He teaches us in any way we're open to in any given situation....LOL I remember having a discussion with Him one time....It was back and forth in a good fluid conversation...Then I got a bit angry at something and barked at Him....Oh Sig....The silence was totally deafening! I still wish He had hit me with a stick instead..

There is no one way. The wind blows as it will. Sometimes God speaks to me in dreams, sometimes in visions, sometimes in a spiritual confirmation after reading scripture, sometimes while in prayer, or pondering a situation, a simple yes or no is conveyed, nonverbally, mind to mind. Indeed, the evil one knows of all these ways, and utilizes them, and those leadings of the Holy Spirit must not go against scripture.

But, Jesus spoke things that no one of the spiritually inclined agreed upon, because they had set scriptures to mean one thing and one thing only according to their sects (man's knowledge). Christians sometimes want to believe something is of the Holy Spirit because it fits better with what they already believe according to some man made meanings of scripture. All have seen the arguments over what scripture means by many good intentioned people. Examples are the faithful that have split the church a 1000 ways.

That's good Brad. According to what you say here He says a lot more than a simple yes or no...Right?

So all you hear is a yes or a no?

Remember Jesus said that when the Holy Spirit comes he will not on his, but what he hears. Jesus said that he only speaks what he hears his Father say. Which means it will always be God the Father who teaches his child, and what he teaches he "confirms" in his Word, and the Holy Spirit will bear witness to every truth. All three members of the Godhead are active in teaching his Church, not just one.

There must be three witness to every truth, or what we thought was truth was only a man made doctrine that does no body any good. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

I agree here with what you say, but it is the specific role of the Holy Spirit to teach us
John 14:26 (CJB)
26 But the Counselor, the Ruach HaKodesh, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything; that is, he will remind you of everything I have said to you.

...BTW If you look at it....The Holy Spirit is the Father and He is Jesus....They are one... Look at the scripture I gave you above...Jesus taught us, the Holy Spirit is reminding us.....

Brother, I do believe that God the Father, Jesus (the Word), and the Holy Spirit are one, and they together makeup the one God, but they are not the same person individually. Each person in the Godhead have separate functions that they perform, yet they all agree in one. Remember the Holy Spirit reminds us of what Jesus has said because he does not speak on his own, but only what he hears. Jesus being the Word of God only speaks what he hears the Father say. Everything originates with God the Father, and then works through the Son, and the Spirit, in that order.
As Jesus said here................

John 6:45 It is written in the Prophets, 'And they will all be taught by God.' Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me—

Comes to me who? The Word of God, in which the Word of God confirms to us what the Father has taught us and confirming to us once again by His Spirit.

Yup And the Father is God , Jesus is God, and the Holy Spirit is God...The Holy Spirit in us teaches us...
But let me put it this way....The Holy Spirit is in you, right? He's so totally enmeshed in you so as to be completely inextricable from you. You cannot take Him out and you are part of Him the same way....The Holy Spirit in you that way makes you a brand new creation, one that never existed before...And the two cannot be separated. Not ever. Then....the Holy Spirit is enmeshed the same way with the Father and with Jesus...It's mind blowing to consider....

I agree the Holy Spirit is in us, and upon us for anointing us to do the will of God, yet at the same time Jesus Christ himself also lives inside us as we have the mind of Christ. On top of all that God, the Father also lives in us because he dwells in the Son, and the Son dwells in the Father. The Bible tells us we can be filled with all the fullness of the God once we get rooted, and grounded in love. Notice this scripture which says.

Col 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
Col 2:9 For in him (Jesus Christ) dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Col 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

We are living and dwelling in Christ which lives all the fullness of the Godhead (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). We are complete in him, and he is complete in us, now that is what I call one with God!!!

2Co 13:5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!
