Knowledge of Him

"The people that do know their God shall be strong."—Daniel 11:32.

Every believer understands that to know God is the highest and best form of knowledge; and this spiritual knowledge is a source of strength to the Christian.

It strengthens his faith. Believers are constantly spoken of in the Scriptures as being persons who are enlightened and taught of the Lord; they are said to "have an unction from the Holy One," and it is the Spirit's peculiar office to lead them into all truth, and all this for the increase and the fostering of their faith.

Knowledge strengthens love, as well as faith. Knowledge opens the door, and then through that door we see our Saviour. Or, to use another similitude, knowledge paints the portrait of Jesus, and when we see that portrait then we love Him, we cannot love a Christ whom we do not know, at least, in some degree. If we know but little of the excellences of Jesus, what He has done for us, and what He is doing now, we cannot love Him much; but the more we know Him, the more we shall love Him.

Knowledge also strengthens hope. How can we hope for a thing if we do not know of its existence? Hope may be the telescope, but till we receive instruction, our ignorance stands in the front of the glass, and we can see nothing whatever; knowledge removes the interposing object, and when we look through the bright optic glass we discern the glory to be revealed, and anticipate it with joyous confidence.

Knowledge supplies us reasons for patience. How shall we have patience unless we know something of the sympathy of Christ, and understand the good which is to come out of the correction which our heavenly Father sends us? Nor is there one single grace of the Christian which, under God, will not be fostered and brought to perfection by holy knowledge.

How important, then, is it that we should grow not only in grace, but in the "knowledge" of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

It is very and equally important; I don't see you growing in one without the other. God gives you your share of Grace, from their you grow in Grace and Knowledge of God / Jesus by reading and learning the word of God for the rest of your physical life in this world!

I agree.

It's not an either or proposition as some might think it is. Our growth covers every aspect that touches our lives from breath to death and then life eternal. Even as we go from death to life we will continue to increase in knowing our God throughout all Eternity!! Alleluia!!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts brother.

Knowledge can be good, but knowing Him is better. This is why Apostle Paul wrote this:

"And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing." I Cor 13:2

"And though I have... all knowledge... and have not charity, I am nothing".

So what does it mean to know Him as opposed to simply knowing about Him?

Perhaps we need to understand better what the following verse means?

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32

And what is this "truth" we are to know? It is certainly more than knowledge of a set of facts:

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6

"...I am... the truth".

People who saw Jesus in the flesh did not know Him and did not know the truth. See first the gentile:

"Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? ..." John 18:38
He said this not realizing that the Truth stood before him in the flesh.

And then see one of Jesus' closest followers:

"Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? " John 14:8-9

We know that many unbelievers are like Pilate, but how many believers are still like Philip was in that moment?

How well do we know Jesus? How well can we know Him?

Some of this OP by Charles doesn't bare witness with me. For it is not knowledge that opens the Door; but an earnest seekers heart, crying out Abba Father.

I had no knowledge or understanding when He set an open door before me in heaven; but knowledge, wisdom and understanding did come afterwards, because God saw my good works, an earnest seekers heart searching to know Him.

All praise glory and honor be unto God Amen

I do believe that this devotional speaks to what you are saying dear brother.

However I must say. One must not attempt to invalidate one part, for in so doing you negate the part you seek to uplift. Scripture says and has been quoted here in verse "I know in part..." The part we know does not take away from what we do not know, nor does what is not known take away from what we do know. Rather it builds upon the foundation in Christ Jesus that we do now know and have knowledge of through His Word and the Holy Spirit in ourselves of which we will continue to know ever greater in, as eternity unfolds for us.

Thank-you for sharing brother.

"Then I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you on knowledge and understanding. Jeremiah 3:15

"They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them," declares the LORD, "for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more." Jeremiah 31:34

I believe so as well, but some of it may have unclear to some.

Every believer in Christ has knowledge that is good, but without being led by the Holy Spirit, he may not be able to distinguish between the good knowledge of God and other knowledge...

And so it has always been brother. Since that day of disobedience to God in the garden and they ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The believers decision making skills are still put to the test. However, we as believers have a guide/instructor/motivator in the Holy Spirit, if we would but listen and obey. The Holy Spirit will also work upon us by revealing understanding of God's Word in Scripture.

One day clarity will be just a word, for we will know in full by our Jesus! Always a joy dear brother!
