"So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king's table; and was lame on both his feet."—2 Samuel 9:13.

Mephibosheth was no great ornament to a royal table, yet he had a continual place at David's board, because the king could see in his face the features of the beloved Jonathan. Like Mephibosheth, we may cry unto the King of Glory, "What is Thy servant, that Thou shouldst look upon such a dead dog as I am?" but still the Lord indulges us with most familiar intercourse with Himself, because He sees in our countenances the remembrance of His dearly-beloved Jesus.

The Lord's people are dear for another's sake. Such is the love which the Father bears to His only begotten, that for His sake He raises His lowly brethren from poverty and banishment, to courtly companionship, noble rank, and royal provision.

Their deformity shall not rob them of their privileges. Lameness is no bar to sonship; the cripple is as much the heir as if he could run like Asahel. Our right does not limp, though our might may. A king's table is a noble hiding-place for lame legs, and at the gospel feast we learn to glory in infirmities, because the power of Christ resteth upon us.

Yet grievous disability may mar the persons of the best-loved saints. Here is one feasted by David, and yet so lame in both his feet that he could not go up with the king when he fled from the city, and was therefore maligned and injured by his servant Ziba. Saints whose faith is weak, and whose knowledge is slender, are great losers; they are exposed to many enemies, and cannot follow the king whithersoever he goeth.

This disease frequently arises from falls. Bad nursing in their spiritual infancy often causes converts to fall into a despondency from which they never recover, and sin in other cases brings broken bones. Lord, help the lame to leap like an hart, and satisfy all Thy people with the bread of Thy table!

Under the law God gave to Moses, those who were deformed in the flesh were not allowed to perform all of the office of the priesthood [Leviticus 21] and that was a shadow for those of us today in our flesh alone. We, initially in our flesh, like Moses could never see the face of God [Ex 33:20], but the face of God was sought by men and because of the sacrifice of Jesus such a vision is possible:

"Where there is no vision, the people perish... " Prov 29:18

"When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek." Psalm 27:8

"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face..." I Cor 13:12

Yes, for those who endure with Him to the end there is a promise for a "face to face" vision:

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." I John 3:2

Yes, for those who endure with Him to the end there is a promise for a "face to face" vision:

I would only change one word from what you've written dear brother, and that would be "vision". I believe this verse in 1 John 3:2 is a reality of seeing both temporally & spiritually as one. A condition unknown/accessible (?) at this time to us. Not yet realized "...not yet appear what we shall be:..." but one that truly takes away all barriers that now exist between us and Him which is duly noted by you in 1 Corinthians 13:12.

This devotional makes me pensive, because it can be taken and moved in so many directions. Worthiness...self and we are diluted....in Christ Jesus and clarity....deficiency/failings, etc. It brings an awareness also of blessings...which lead to praise and worship!

Is it so possible that one Word of God once spoken by Him is infinite? With only the application/our perceptions which changes due to our current limitations but barriers which prevent us in having any real/clear comprehension? Surely then the Holy Spirit provides us is a mere tip of the ice burg of what is to come and in part of what we currently have the capability of accepting/knowing? If we were greater in truth, would not the world see it as a threat and treat it as insanity for those who are closer still? I fear my words at this time are ramblings of a mind caught in the middle of a storm. Apologies.

Thank-you both @rag4aCrown for sharing your words.

You believe in that difference, brother, but I cannot so limit God. For God in us, I believe, that "all things are possible". If there is the limit, it is not with God but with us. If we are able to truly turn it "all" over to the Lord, what can He NOT do in us?

I really do believe your words that I have underlined. Unlike us it is unnecessary for God repeat or clarify what He has spoken. He may do it anyway for you or for me, but is it necessary?

"So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. " Isaiah 55:11

What God has established by His Word is established. Because He did not speak them to us personally in an audible voice does not mean that we will not receive blessings and curses, which He has spoken as applying to all men.

It was necessary to state it as such and it was not to limit God, for who can do so? No one, nothing can. I was only showing the difference between the use of "vision" as it pertains to "face to face" mentioned of in 1 Corinthians 13:2 and "as He is" mentioned in 1 John 3:2. To me neither speaks of "vision", but of a greater reality we have yet to know fully. One day that will change! Truly to the Glory of God that it will be so! For it will all be due to Him and nothing of us!

I agree brother. The necessity is due to us and not Him.

As always brother. With all my love.

As you say. My point was only what is possible for God. Can any of us surrender so completely as to allow Him to do the all of the possible in us?

Thank you brother and friend in Christ!

Sorry brother. Sometimes I'll split hairs in the attempt to make it perfect.

Hopefully, to not drift too afar from the devotional. :) As to you question -

I do believe that some came surely came close but did not fail due to any lack of trying or of faith in God.

And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect. Hebrews 11:39-40

You are truly a light in this ever darkening world dear brother!
Love you.
