Eliphaz’s Response Continues

These are my thoughts, please share yours.


1 We as Christians should say prayers and call out to the Lord, God will hear us if we are His followers, He only hears the sinners prayer from the lost. We should not rely on angels but only on the Lord, who may send us and angel.


2 Worry does not do any good, Jesus taught about worrying and said it can not add a day to our lives, we put our trust in the One who has control.


3 We should not curse others, and we as Christians should pray for the foolish, this are the ones that do not accept Jesus.

Point 1: First, consider that Job's friend Eliphaz was giving earthly advice based on observation of life. Some of his comments are commonly confirmed among us. But he was focused on convincing Job his troubles were caused by his wickedness, hidden by good works. That was not why Job was suffering.

Eliphaz was challenging Job, that if he were truly righteous, he could get his prayers answered.

In Acts 10 we learn who God listens to, whether Christian or sinner. Acts 10:4 (KJV)
4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.

Cornelius was a Roman captain of 100 Italian soldiers. Who would ever think might please God? His prayers were heard, and his giving seen by God.

It has been a common idea lately of someone leading a person to Christ to say 'Pray this prayer and you will be saved." Well, probably, if God see the right intent in their inner man.
But in Cornelius' case, we have no idea of the content of his prayers, all of which apparently were heard by God and respected. Frankly I believe God listens to every communication from any person whenever. Whether he answers each or not, we can't determine. We can't often even recognize answers anyway until those become history.

Doubtless the huge problem about prayer is the lack of it. People prefer to work things out rather than ask. Cornelius didn't take that route.

James 4:1-7 (KJV)
1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Point 2: The Devil still controls probably most of what happens on earth today. The reason is the Church isn't exercising dominion as assigned to mankind in general.
Jesus said to pray to the Father in his name. A prime thing to pray about is that God's will is done on earth as it is done in heaven. If we are to pray such a thing, that means God is not imposing his will on earth, but waits for someone to invite his will. Matthew 6:9-10 (KJV) 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Point 3: The book of Proverbs puts up a very strong argument against praying for the foolish. Jesus wouldn't do that, confirmed in his major prayer in John 17:9 (KJV)
9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

Eliphaz was preaching false doctrine, yet seemingly accurate human wisdom. It's a lesson for us to be sure our doctrine is based on what God says, not what men say, even when God reports what men say in error.
